Hydraulic Fracturing R&D Engineer
Job Description:
Based in Total's Research & Technology Center USA (Houston), this position is fully dedicated to the Total R&D EP Unconventional Program.
The owner of this position will be responsible for advising the Tight Oil – Gas Shale Project Manager on all matters related to the hydraulic fracturing of unconventional plays. As a result, the incumbent will strongly influence the content of the research project.
The main research areas encompass:
Development of methods and tools to optimize the recovery of multi-stage hydraulically fractured laterals
Alternative methods to hydraulic fracturing
Minimize the impact of hydraulic fracturing activities
As advisor for all R&D topics related to hydraulic fracturing, the incumbent will have to:
Participate in the identification of the main research areas, technologies and methodologies to be studied.
Propose work programs and/or evaluate those proposed by third parties.
Participate in joint research projects and lead those operated by Total, ensuring the supply and quality of deliverables
Coordinate the stakeholders required to carry out the activities of the projects for which he/she is directly responsible.
Guarantee the expertise of the solutions developed and ensure that the results are transferred to the business units and operational staff.
Ensure quality internal reporting (technical reports, annual reports).
Contribute to the transfer of expertise towards HQ personnel by organizing workshops, trainings.
Monitor technological developments and identify the Group's positioning in relation to its main competitors.

Stantec is currently looking to add a Civil / Hydraulic Engineer to support our Northern California Waterpower and Dams practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background and/or interest in engineering design in the field of Waterpower & Dams. We encourage to apply if you possess advanced knowledge of civil and hydraulic engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields, with specific emphasis in large civil infrastructure related to dams and hydropower. The candidate must have familiarity with performing engineering problems and methods; and use advanced analysis techniques including the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines. Applicant must be capable of working effectively with teams and clients, and be willing to learn from peers and supervisors. Work products will include field investigations and working on design of water conveyance and storage facilities, dams, and hydropower projects.
Participant on multidisciplinary teams in an office environment as well as in virtual team environment.
Perform preliminary and detailed civil and hydraulic analysis for hydraulic structures and facilities for dams and other hydroelectric related projects, specifically including: Spillways, Intake structures for dams and reservoirs with multi-level gates, Penstocks and outlet conduits, Energy dissipation structures and Powerhouse structures for hydro-power plants.
Preparation of studies, design criteria, design reports, plans and specifications, and quality assurance reviews of related designs and construction plans, and support of construction.
Organize, draft and coordinate production of various reports to ensure technical consistency and inclusion of appropriate documentation
Inspect construction for compliance with specifications; review and approve drawings; conduct field inspections; review progress versus schedule.
Support multi-disciplinary teams on civil and hydraulic engineering projects.
Evaluate alternatives and resolve technical questions.
Assist with preparation of budgets and scopes of work.
Organize, draft and coordinate production of drawings and specifications to ensure technical accuracy.
Serve as civil and hydraulic engineer on small- to mid-sized projects and work on several projects concurrently.
Assist in project administration including writing reports, gathering information, drafting proposals, drafting correspondence, and completing progress reports.
Assist technical staff in field activities including site inspections, monitoring and other fieldwork.

The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, multitasking ability, and excellent computer skills. Minimum of 5 years' experience in the design and implementation of large infrastructures, specifically related to hydraulic analysis and evaluation.
Demonstrated experience with working on and leading multi-disciplinary projects, assisting with business development and proposal preparation.
Demonstrated leadership in the industry through successful execution on relevant dam engineering projects, as well as publication and participation in the industry (e.g. USSD, ICOLD)
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to prepare complete, concise and organized engineering calculations and analyses.
You will be based out of Walnut Creek, but requires willingness to work in a virtual team across offices and occasional project travel throughout Northern CA and west coast.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Supports and facilitates the Hydraulic Lift product line or Hydraulic Lift product lines business plan within the area in accordance with Company policy, governmental legislation, and quality service goals, through the effective and efficient use of its financial, capital, and human resources.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for development and implementation of the Hydraulic Lift product line to the area, assessing the market, assisting with training, and offering assistance with product strategy and plan.
Facilitates region and product line initiatives directly or indirectly with personnel in the region with Hydraulic Lift product line responsibility.
Provide information and input for the formulation of long and short range sales objectives and plans for the market and business regions served.
Interview clients at length to discover their goals and become familiar with their requests in order to promote features and new products.
Support local district managers and product line management for equipment and supply needs and the maintenance of appropriate levels of inventory.
Interface with product line management on pricing strategies and target manufacturing costs for existing and new products.
Interface with Weatherford's product line management and design engineering groups on RFQ's that may require product development or require significant technical content.
Provide support and assisting in the preparation of quotations and proposals.
Work with field sales staff to maintain a well-coordinated and vigorous sales effort to develop and maintain a preferred relationship with key customers
Know and understand Weatherford SRO Quality Policy and comply with all requirements of the Quality Systems Manual, Operating and Technical Procedures and Workplace Instructions.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
Minimum 5 years oil field experience

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in troubleshooting, inspecting, removal & replacement, repairs, PC-1, PC-2 and utility hydraulic systems
Assist in troubleshooting, inspecting, removal & replacement, repairing actuators, lines and tubing
Assist in troubleshooting, inspecting, removal & replacement, repairing canopies & radomes
Assist in inspecting and servicing hydraulic systems: PC-1, PC-2, and Utility
Document maintenance records and historical data files as required
Assist in researching, ordering and receiving parts
Perform OJT (On the Job Training) with assigned trainees as required
Use hydraulic test stands and related AGE equipment
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and five to six years of related experience.
5 years' experience with a minimum of 1 year as a 7 level on F-15 Aircraft, AFSC: 2A675 or equivalent
Knowledge of OJT and documentation
Working knowledge of T.O.'s, maintenance manuals and IPB's (Portable Hydraulic Test Stands)
Working knowledge about O.N. and I.M. level maintenance functions
