Patent Illustrator (Mechanical)
We are currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to join our growing Intellectual Property team. The Patent Illustrator will use their mechanical and drafting knowledge/skills to prepare Patent application drawings using CAD software for submission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
What you'll do:
Responsible for creating Patent drawings using various computer programs (AutoCad and SpaceClaim) that meet the expectations and Rules of Practice set forth by the USPTO.
Responsible for accurately illustrating designs and product characteristics by producing a variety of perspective, assembly and sectional drawings, outlining the details of the claimed invention.
The job requires the use of knowledge and artistic abilities incorporating different style drawings ranging from simple Flow charts and In-Use views to complicated Exploded Pespective Views.
Accurate drawings are to be completed in a timely manner.
3+ years drafting or illustration and mechanical experience and aptitude.
Experience with CAD programs (AutoCad experience is required but we will train on the in-house 3D Modeling program [SpaceClaim]) – Knowledge of SolidWorks and/or other 3D Modeling Software is recommended
Knowledge of perspective and orthographic view construction as well as general drafting and illustration practices is required
Familiar with principles of isometric projection and construction.
Mechanical/technical illustration experience.
Must be deadline-oriented as most work is time-sensitive, artistic, and mechanically-inclined.
Strong attention to detail and good visualization skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment with highly motivated team members.
Ability to perform in a self-managed environment -- must be a self-starter.
Experience interacting with clients is required.
Proven focus on teamwork.
Experience with MS Office.
Prior patent illustration experience.

Position Title: Technical Illustrator
The Technical Publications illustrator uses Arbortext IsoDraw software as their primary illustration tool and references existing assembly process documents, photos, UG/NX models and engineering drawings to create illustrations that describe step-by-step assembly.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Basic understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T
Functional computer literacy with specific proficiency in Arbortext IsoDraw or equivalent

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
This is an entry to mid-level position (0-5 yrs experience). Must be able to follow instructions and show the ability to be a self-directed highly organized professional, able to work on multiple projects with multiple priorities and deadlines. Familiar with Air Transport Association (ATA)/iSpec2200 specifications as regards to aircraft manuals is desired, but not required. Candidate must show the ability to understand engineering drawings/CAD models and use Arbortext Isodraw to create technical illustrations.

SAIC is recruiting for a mid-level part-time Illustrator and Technical Documentation specialist to join our program as a general technologist to support our NOAA GFDL customer in Princeton, NJ. This individual will be working with highly technical climate scientists and must have great communication skills to respond to user requests in a user-friendly and professional manner.
The ideal candidate must be an independent self-starter and have excellent customer-facing communication and consultation skills (with managers and/or scientists).
Duties will include but not limited to:
Collaborate with research and technical staff to collect and interpret technical data required to prepare informational materials. Distill relevant information and present that information in an easy to understand format using text, photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
Analyze target audience in order to create graphical products appropriate to final presentation vehicle (e.g., web, manuscript, poster) in user‐friendly, audience-appropriate language.
Plan, design, research, write, and edit a range of materials for use in manuscripts, presentations, posters, flyers, signs and charts, user guides and manuals, technical specifications, training materials, user policies, etc., for both print and online media, accounting for special final format/product requirements.
Interpret, design, lay-out and complete illustration work using appropriate computer graphics applications (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, PowerPoint, Gimp, etc.) and workstation platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux) to complete each task. Edit, re-draw, add graphical elements, and create composites of diverse scientific elements.
Produce accurate final copy using a variety of printers or other output devices. If necessary, prepare and send out digital files for publication purposes and for high quality and/or oversized color printing. Work with appropriate contacts to ensure all GPO requirements are met. Monitor and document progress of off-site print jobs.
Maintain log of all work in terms of "jobs", including order date, agreed/actual completion dates, complexity level (1-4), number of individual components, hours spent (cumulative, to completion).
B.S./B.A. Technical Communications, Computer Science or related field with an emphasis on technical documentation
3+ years of experience working directly in a scientific environment performing copy editing and desktop publishing activities.
