Job Description The Bone Marrow Transplant Technologist is responsible for daily operations within the Stanford Cellular Therapeutics & Transplantation Laboratory operated by the Blood & Marrow Transplant Program. Duties include graft processing for transplant and other cell-based therapies under GTP and GMP, as required. include graft processing for transplant and other cellbased therapies under GTP and GMP, as required.
Additional duties include conducting product characterization and release assays, maintaining product processing files, assisting BMT clinical staff with infusions, and preparing clinical study samples. Maintaining technical and regulatory proficiency in all areas of laboratory operation in accordance with cellular therapy standards is required. Participate in the assessment and implementation of new methodologies consistent with the laboratory's role in translational medicine using cell-based therapies. The Senior BMT Technologist displays higher proficiency and consistancy with his/her work.
Essential Functions § Processes and cryopreserves hematopoietic progenitor cell products (primarily bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells) using aseptic technique. § Ensure completion of any and all testing required to assess product safety and efficacy. § Compiles and completes all documentation required for processing records. § Maintains operational readiness of processing laboratory. § Assists BMT clinical staff with transplant infusions and biopsies. § Maintain technical proficiency in all areas of laboratory operation. § Fulfills duties of this position at expected levels of proficiency as outlined in the Competency/Proficiency policies. § Rotate through various processing assignments on a regular basis. Share on-call responsibilities OTHER FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES § Maintain adequate inventory of all cell processing supplies and reagents at all times. § Maintain accurate inventory records in written and electronic spreadsheet formats.
Removes expired materials from inventory. § Routinely audit, or otherwise verify, that all cell processing procedures are being performed correctly. Check other technologists' work at "critical" steps to verify operations are being performed according to approved SOPs. § Assist with the implementation of new cell processing procedures and test methods, as directed. § Assist with inventory management and maintenance of the cleanroom environment in a neat and orderly fashion. § Maintain all required records and assure processing worksheets are complete, accurate, and consistent with all SOPs. Record all variances and submit to management. § Communicate and collaborate with appropriate inter-departmental staff members. § Coordinate routine and unscheduled maintenance of laboratory equipment. § Ensure compliance of laboratory operations with current regulatory and accreditation requirements. § Assist with special projects, as directed.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a biological science required, preferably in Medical Technology. Minimum 2 years experience in Hematology, Immunology, and/or Blood Banking, with at least 1 year of cell processing and/or cryopreservation experience.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION Current Medical Technologist license from ASCP required. Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist license preferred. Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Blood Banking )
Performs essential job duties of the Quality Control Laboratory while providing guidance and expertise for the laboratory to meet the needs of customers, in accordance with accepted standards and regulations.
Adhere to CLIA requirements, current food manufacturing practices (cGMP) guidelines, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Must demonstrate and uphold Standards of Excellence.
Maintain department records, reports and statistical data as required.
Draft new and revise existing documents: procedures, forms, etc.
Participate in proficiency testing as assigned.
May assist in the review of test results, reports and/or quality control records.
Participate in process validations and qualifications of equipment.
Enhance professional growth and development of self and staff.
Attend internal and external meetings as required, and participate on committees as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Duties:
Perform platelet production as needed
Performs donor and product QC evaluations
Perform product labeling and quarantine/dispositions of products
Investigate and review non-conformances through quality incident reporting
Perform supervisory reviews and tasks as needed
Perform controlled document writing and revisions
Receive / Review, Upload and Commit IDM test results
Provide support for the donor notification/look-back process
General laboratory equipment including but not limited to: hematology cell counters, residual cell counters, bacterial detection analyzers, pH meter, centrifuges, heat sealers, sterile docking devices, refrigerators,/freezers, sterility incubators, tubing strippers, weights, scales, balances, expressors if applicable in the lab department.
BECS (Blood Establishment Computer Systems)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Understanding of technical aspects of lab department, blood banking concepts, hematology, microbiology, serology and flowcytometry.
Must be detail-oriented, well organized, self-motivated and capable of independent work.
Experience: Laboratory experience preferred but not required.
MT (ASCP)cm or equivalent experience
CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (CLS) or
CA Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist License (CIS)
