In this role, the Industrial Designer will support new product development efforts by conducting user research/ voice of customer; develop new product concepts through sketching, 3D modeling and work to refresh existing products to align with new branding strategy for products in residential and commercial water filtration.

Work with multi-functional teams to define product solutions using design thinking processes
Ideation of new products with focus on manufacturability, brand language and insights from user research.
Evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
Integrate findings into concepts and sketches for product design ideas.

Job Requirements & Skills
Have earned at least a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design or similar field of study is required.

Have excellent skills in CAD tools (Solidworks ,Pro/E, Inventor, etc.) preferred
Have strong knowledge in Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign).
Have experience with Keyshot or other rendering applications

We're looking to hire an Industrial Designer who is interested in developing professional tools for the trades. If you are a maker that loves to research, create, build, and test their designs, in addition to working between different departments then you'll be a great fit!
What is an Industrial Designer and Why Are We Hiring One?
Industrial Designers at RIDGID take on the challenge of participating in the full development cycle for new products. They are integral in early concepting, customer research, and engineering development of new products. They are the champions of the user experience, the aesthetic design, physical brand consistency, and good ergonomics.
As our tools continue to get "smarter" and more connected, the need for good design to support this kind of connectivity is increasing rapidly. The ecosystems of software and hardware that supports our our connected tools are all becoming more important than ever. We need designers to join the team to help explore and develop new creative solutions.
We are looking to hire an Industrial Designer who can plan and prioritize workloads for the design group, lead industrial design initiatives with multiple product teams, conduct field research and employ best practices, do exquisite design work from sketching to surfacing, and maintain a consistent strategy for the company with the help of the global brand manager.
About the Team You Will Join
Our team is a relatively new addition to RIDGID. You will have the opportunity to continue to develop the department through exciting project work and have an influence in the groups future. Currently the department size is two, but is expected to grow as the business does.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Be the lead Industrial Designer on multiple strategic programs
Participates in all aspects of the development process including design, development, testing
Present concepts and explain user benefits for different designs
Provide RIDGID leadership monthly reports on current projects
Develop "A" surface CAD models
Lead Innovation workshops and design meetings
Works with and mentors other designers
Bachelor's degree or higher in Industrial Design from a NASAD accredited university
5 years experience designing consumer or industrial products
Good understanding of mechanical design and plastic/metal manufacturing processes
Fluent in Adobe Creative Suite and SolidEdge or similar
Great Concept Sketching Skills
Good Presentation Skill
Passion for good design
Good project management skills
Surfacing experience with SolidEdge
Previous UX/UI experience
Design strategy experience
Having really cool hobbies that could pay off in the work place
