The Scaler is responsible for correctly scaling and weighing the proper ingredients for the specified dough mixture that is scheduled for production in the Mixing department.This position exists to ensure the utmost quality of all products being produced and packaged at the plant.
Check the schedule to determine the ingredients and the amounts needed to be scaled/weighed during a shift.
Prepare scales for the weighing process.
Select specified ingredients for dough mixture.
Accurately weigh each ingredient per specified formulas and instructions.
Sift lumpy ingredients as needed.
Place ingredients in designated bags.
Record shift, ingredients and initials on the bags.
Record all lot numbers on the bags.
Place ingredient bags weighing up to 100 lbs. on moving cart.
Sweep, clean and mop work area; Cleans barrel carts; Washes utensils.
Communicate changes, instructions, etc. to the scalers on the next production shift.
Work in close proximity to co-workers.
Work with minimal supervision and at times independently.
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) at all times.
Verbally communicate instructions, problems, etc. to co-workers, supervisors and employees from all departments.

Additionally, this person ensures that the quality of the wood received meets our quality standards, helping us to produce some of the highest quality OSB on the market. This person will also use multiple computer systems to track incoming and outgoing product to ensure that production is maximized and our product gets to market quickly. A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
Inspecting incoming log trucks to ensure supplier quality specifications are met
Writing warning/reject notices for loads not meeting specifications
Working with logging contractors and foresters to assist in correcting wood and fiber quality issues
Maintaining inventory information for raw materials; reporting daily usages and inventories to accounting, wood and fiber supply and mill personnel
Creating and providing reports relative to wood and fiber inventories, deliveries, and wood quality
Coordinating outgoing shipments with other Georgia-Pacific mills, customer, drivers, and vendors
What You Will Need:
High school diploma or GED
Willing and able to work rotating twelve (12) hour shifts including overtime, weekends, and holidays
Experience using Microsoft Office Word (i.e. creating documents), Excel (i.e. creating spreadsheets, utilizing formulas, & analyzing data), and Outlook (i.e. scheduling meeting invites & emailing)
Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment
Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment
