Set up, operate, or tend metal or plastic molding, casting, or coremaking machines to mold or cast metal or thermoplastic parts or products.
Observe continuous operation of automatic machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, making adjustments as necessary.
Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.

Our Manhattan, Montana facility is seeking a Machine Set Up Tech 3 to add to our team. The Machine Set Up Tech 3 is responsible for but not limited to: Technician must possess excellent knowledge of injection molding process, materials, molds and machinery. Technician must maintain molding schedules; evaluate parts based on quality standards and specifications, and assist machine operators as needed. Technician will assist material handler with start and setup procedures. This position supports 32 IMM's with a drive for 90% uptime along with 2 other machine set up technicians of varying experience. This position is a direct supporter/contributor to the success of the Operations Manager and any/all delegated work is expected to positively promote the Blackhawk brand.
Including but not limited to the following
Verify correct set-up of molds, presses, and auxiliary equipment before machine start up.
Establish proper molding conditions.
Perform mold changes and sampling runs according to molding schedule.
Assist with the set-up and maintenance of auxiliary equipment, including granulators, conveyors, liquid temperature controls, and mold electrical controls.

Monitor multi-cavity thermoplastic machines that produce different types of molded parts on fully automatic or single cycle operation.
As required use go/no-go gaging, dial calipers, gage pins, and microscopes to inspect the molded housings according to the quality inspection plans.
Dump production bins onto workstation table and visually check parts for nonfill, cracks, broken steel, or other non-conformities and complete associated paperwork. Refer all problems, including press alarms to group leader or set-up person for adjustment.
Record production data, scrap data, inspections completed, and general comments throughout the production run via the production logs, mold report cards, and QIP inspection form at multiple presses.
Place the proper amount of housings in each shipping container by operating the weigh scales as required. Package per Pali requirements.
Assemble cardboard shipping containers for multiple presses and packaging staging area, and apply completed trace labels or other applicable information to the outside of these containers.
Manually strip parts from runner system in tab gated applications as required.
Continuously clean workstation area of parts, pellets, and runners that fall on the floor or get caught on machine per 5S+1 and TEOA requirements. This includes a 5S+1 cleanup at the press each shift, 5S+1 cleanup at the scales and west wall weekly, and clean around the press at the end of each factory order.
Adhere to all standard safety requirements and wear recommended personal protective equipment at all times in the production areas.
Perform TPM walkaround (autonomous maintenance) at multiple presses.
Monitor additional presses for the set-up adjusters as required when they are setting up and processing.
Sort production as required.
Attend daily GO meetings and communicate with incoming and outgoing shifts.
Train associates who are new to the department including temporary employees.
Conduct "second visual" on MSU.
Complete raw material moisture checks as required.
Complete time card at each shift for vacation and/or personal time. Input regular work hours into the computer.
Refill water jugs at the weigh stations.
Close out factory order paperwork with setup adjuster verifying the last shot.
Return the gages to the quality lab at the end of the factory order.

Injection Molding Color Change Operator
This position is primarily responsible for color changes and operation of injection molding machines to mold products form thermoplastic materials. Additionally, this position is responsible for inspecting and trimming excess material from parts and performing secondary operations. Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as related to production and company objectives is required. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining production goals through productivity targets and cost containment by eliminating waste.
This position must go through Level and Level II of the Job Progression program. Each level must be successfully completed within 6 months of your start date with a total of one year for completion.
Processes various component parts
Coordinate work flow and material handling within work cell
Use process support monitoring equipment
Operate fork trucks
Performs color changes and/or startup's of injection molding machines
Perform process control, start-up, process monitoring, press / mold maintenance
Prepare raw materials including mixing for processing
Start-up / operate part picker
Run polycarbonate work cells, which requires additional trimming and notching
Run lens work cell which has heightened inspection and cutting operations (expensive tooling)
Visually Inspects, trims excess material and maintains relevant paperwork
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Ability to log scrap data, dimensional data and color change timer operations in computer system
Ability to set-up and start all auxiliary equipment except robot setup.
Set up and start hot runner controls, thermolators, and pulse cooling
Ability to check safeties on all press types inspect PM presses, perform basic press operations & perform mold cleaning operation.
Ability to successfully complete color changes with established time limits.

Proven ability to read and understand drawings, work instructions and test procedures
Proven ability to understand standard units of measure and to set-up and interpret results of various measuring devices
Ability to work in a fast paced repetitive environment
Ability to infrequently lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds without assistance
Ability to use power and hand tools, and to operate moderately complex machines.
Ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization including training of new associates and temporary agency assignments
Ability to work in a team environment and work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to perform lockout / tag-out
Ability to obtain fork truck certification
Ability to operate at a level that meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards for the work area
Ability to wear safety glasses ANSI Z87 approved, steel toe shoes, and other PPE as required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 3 months previous industrial manufacturing or related experience
6 months previous industrial manufacturing or related experience
Previous certification in Hat Molding

A shift Injection Molding Set-up (11pm to 11am)
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Attend to any red-light and startups before doing mold changes, unless directed otherwise
Complete mold changes by obtaining mold from rack, gathering necessary tools and completing the change as instructed by work instructions, to include material changes as necessary
Complete required paperwork (ex. setup check sheets, mold trouble report, condition sheets, etc.)
Assist other set-up operators during slow periods
Report mold problems or questionable conditions to the department leader, coordinator or supervisor.
Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
High School or GED
Must be able to pass vision screening
Physical effort equal to frequent lifting, pushing, pulling or moving materials and equipment.
This position is required to regularly stand, walk, bend and reach.
