Machine Set Up Technician 3
Shift C: Wed – Sat, Thur
- Sat 6am – 630pm
Our Manhattan, Montana facility is seeking a Machine Set Up Tech 3 to add to our team. The Machine Set Up Tech 3 is responsible for but not limited to: Technician must possess excellent knowledge of injection molding process, materials, molds and machinery. Technician must maintain molding schedules; evaluate parts based on quality standards and specifications, and assist machine operators as needed. Technician will assist material handler with start and setup procedures. This position supports 32 IMM's with a drive for 90% uptime along with 2 other machine set up technicians of varying experience. This position is a direct supporter/contributor to the success of the Operations Manager and any/all delegated work is expected to positively promote the Blackhawk brand.
Including but not limited to the following
Verify correct set-up of molds, presses, and auxiliary equipment before machine start up.
Establish proper molding conditions.
Perform mold changes and sampling runs according to molding schedule.
Assist with the set-up and maintenance of auxiliary equipment, including granulators, conveyors, liquid temperature controls, and mold electrical controls.
Make minor repairs to machines and equipment and notify proper personnel of necessary major repairs.
Relieve other molding technicians on breaks and in the event of absenteeism.
Train and assist machine operators
Responsible for adherence to Quality Specifications for all products.
Follow and promote all safety and environmental procedures
Promote and maintain an atmosphere of cooperation among and between shifts, tool room, quality control, and management to facilitate production goals.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Minimum 7 years as Machine Set Up Technician I/II or similar experience (external applicants)
Proficient in plastics material handling processes and procedures
Taken and passed Assessment to move to level 3 (internal applicant)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides technical instruction to customers.

Performs research and development.

About This Role:
The Molding Process Technician performs molding machine startups and corrects non-conformances using scientific molding and root-cause analysis techniques. S/he installs, removes, and troubleshoots complex plastic injection molds using various tools in a safe and efficient manner.

2.Ensures the correct raw material is supplied to the molding equipment, and that proper material drying specifications are being followed.
3.Creates well written, clear maintenance and tooling work orders for repairs to all auxiliary equipment, molds, and molding machines. Updates and completes all other necessary documentation reports and records.
4.Performs removal and installation of complex plastic injection molds from injection molding machines using cranes, and various other tools in a safe and efficient manner.
5.Performs in-machine preventative maintenance on molds, including cleaning and greasing according to protocol. Properly performs shop shutdowns and startups.
6.Participates in training programs and lean manufacturing SMED setup time-reduction activities. Trains other technicians in mold setups, machine startups, and troubleshooting.
7.Performs machine start-ups for all molds in all machine types and produces parts that pass quality inspections. Sets up and troubleshoots robots, pickers, and end-of-arm tooling.
8.Ensures conformance to specifications using tip sheets, tolerance deviations, and part prints. Utilizes precision inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, plug gauges, scales and video comparator to verify specifications are to tolerance.
9.Works closely with the Quality and Engineering teams to resolve non-conforming and defective occurrences.
10. Identifies the root cause of molding problems and implements appropriate solutions. Responds to molding machine alarms, clears runners, and
resolves processing problems and stuck-part issues. Troubleshoots and adjusts molding parameters within set tolerance limits to maintain quality and production output.
11. Observes machine parameters during runs to verify consistency of temperatures, pressures, press-cycle times, etc. Blocks certain cavities and reprocesses an unbalanced mold flow to produce acceptable parts for remaining cavities.

Ability to sit, climb and balance. Ability to lift, push, pull and move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors and fumes or airborne particles. Frequently exposed to vibration.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather conditions, and risk of static electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and may require PPE.

Injection Molding Operators
TITLE: Plastic Injection Molding Operator
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly DEPARTMENT: Assembly
LABOR GRADE: Base Rate + $1.50 REPORTS TO: Production Supervisor
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Setup, changeover, troubleshoot and maintain molding machines
Troubleshoot and maintain material supply system (vacuum system)
Perform material changeovers
Maintain and improve daily 5S in the plastic molding area
Measure critical part dimensions and do quality checks as required
Work closely with Quality Control to insure a good finished product
Make monthly date code changes
Perform daily condition checks on molding machines
Communicate closely with Production, Production Engineering and Quality of any and all issues or concerns
Must have flexible hours for needed training
Must be willing to cover opposing shifts on short notice due to call-in or scheduled vacation (i.e. If 2nd shift operator calls in, 1st shift operator must stay and 3rd shift must come in early)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent.
One to two years manufacturing experience a plus.
JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be able to read operation standards and complete various daily reports, i.e. quality, production.
Possess an average to high mechanical aptitude or technical understanding.
Basic computer skills.
Must have or be able to acquire a forklift license
Must have or be able to acquire lockout/tag out training
Light to moderate physical effort required.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
Regularly required to stand, reach, and move about the department in order to operate assigned equipment for at least eight (8) or more hours per day.
Work performed in a non air conditioned Plant environment.
Will be required to use cleaners, and degreasers related to job.
Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
