PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed inside and/or outside an office, stockroom, or warehouse. Work may be exposed to a variety of weather conditions and outdoor elements, such as: excessive dampness, chill, heat, humidity, intermittent noise, and inclement cold weather. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Installs, repairs, and replaces water meters, connects services to new residences, disconnects services on past due accounts, and reconnects once payment is made.
Reads meters for locations not coming in or set-up thru AMI or AMR.
Locates services that are covered for various reasons.
Maintains utility equipment by performing routine maintenance and repairs.
Maintains a clean and organized work area.
Completes daily work orders; repairs any leaks in the meter box and dips or pumps water out of the meter boxes; replaces curb stops and coupling; digs meter boxes and raises them up if the box has settled.
Carries out the City's Customer Service Plan.
Assists in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors and other business contacts.
Must follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
At least one (1) year of experience as a meter reader or maintenance worker.

The purpose of this classification is to perform field work functions associated with reading and recording water usage data from meters.
The following duties are normal for this classification. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.

Locates and reads residential, commercial and industrial water meters on an assigned route; records water meter data utilizing a portable computerized meter reading device.
Cleans meters and checks for malfunctions; performs basic repairs; reports problems or defects to supervisor; removes defective meters and/or installs new meters as directed.
Operates a motor vehicle to conduct meter reading activities; inspects assigned vehicle for proper operations; performs minor vehicle maintenance as needed.
Cuts off delinquent accounts; prepares and/or receives various forms, reports, work orders, or other documentation; completes, processes, and/or forwards as appropriate; maintains records. Inspects visible plumbing for water leaks; repairs service line; replaces curb stops.
Conducts special readings to verify excessively high or low water consumption as required.
Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
Trims weeds/shrubbery around meter boxes.
Cleans truck bays.
Recommends policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of quality services by the Department.
Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles in day to day activities.
Must accomplish the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, in a timely manner.
Must meet regular attendance requirements.
Must be able to maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co-workers, and managers. Performs other related duties as required.

Electric Meter Technician J/A
Maintain meter shop cleanliness and order by performing routine duties such as packing, unpacking, cleaning shipping material etc.
Install, remove, troubleshoot, exchange and tests all types of electric metering devices (i.e. meters, recorders, pulse relays, communication equipment and associated interfaces, etc.).
Metering devices specifically included are 480V self-contained and 320 amp meters, and automatic meter reading field equipment.
Install and maintain specialized metering for the purpose of measuring energy management data collection, harmonic distortion, transformer losses, line losses, bi-directional energy flow, volt amp hours, and interval metering.
Install, remove, trouble-shoot, exchanges and tests instrument transformers installations associated with electric metering. Testing includes validation of values associated with breakdown, ratio, polarity, phase angle burden / admittance values etc.
Maintain Data Acquisition network to facilitate remote meter reading (i.e. MV-90).
Upgrades obsolete meter installations to meet current standards including the installation of conduit, equipment, and wiring to facilitate change.
Test, calibrate, and repair standard test equipment (i.e. Digital Voltmeters).
Construct, install, remove, exchange, and troubleshoot primary metering installations (i.e. substation, inter – tie, etc.), as directed.
Connect archiving equipment such as recording voltmeters, power quality analyzers, etc for information gathering, and may assist with analysis.

Parking Meter Technician
Basic Function – Ensure that parking meters are maintained, cleaned, and repaired if damaged in a timely fashion as well as assist with parking enforcement duties as required.
Install new and replacement on-street meters as required.
Provide preventative maintenance for existing on-street meters.
Provide preventive maintenance program for existing single space meters.
Ensure that all meters cleaned, batteries replaced routinely.
Maintain ample parts inventory including domes, batteries, poles, spare housings & locks, mechanisms, etc. to provide immediate replacement.
