Job Description Virginia Tire & Auto is looking for a full-time Virginia State Safety & Emissions Inspector. Our auto inspectors are detail oriented, efficient, thrive in a high-volume shop, and they are compensated well for their efforts. Given our high car count, inspectors at Virginia Tire & Auto earn up to $80,000 per year. But even an average Virginia Tire & Auto inspector can expect to earn $70,000 per year. Share by Mail Job Overview The Advanced Emissions Calibration Lead Engineer will be responsible for developing emissions systems to meet future emissions standards (e.g. TIER3, California LEV III, Euro6, China6, etc.) for future powertrain applications. Development activities will focus on calibration, exhaust/catalyst technologies (including gasoline particulate filters), sensor technologies, controls strategies, and overall system integration of these technologies into the vehicle. The Advanced Emissions Calibration Lead will demonstrate proof-of-concept solutions to prove Powertrain functional objectives are satisfied. Projects will utilize engine, powertrain, vehicle chassis dynamometers and/or simulation/modeling to make physics-based decisions. Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
Lead other emissions calibration engineers within the advanced emissions team and operate as a go-to person for emissions calibration related topics including fielding questions from production calibration, engine chiefs, and senior leadership
Key technical advisor in PT emissions related center of excellence/competency meetings/forums including communicating on-going advanced project investigations, findings, and recommendations
Ensure global alignment of projects and calibration best practices
Develop emissions systems solutions for future high efficiency powertrains including: system trade-offs for cost, performance, complexity, etc., while meeting all overall vehicle system requirements
Ensure proper integration of emissions system components such as advanced catalysts and exhaust sensor technologies into future powertrains by communication of emissions system and component levels functional requirements to Powertrain engineering and management teams
Plan, test, analyze, and solve complex system problems as they relate to the entire powertrain system to meet key objectives such as: performance, emissions, diagnostics, NVH, quality, fuel economy, etc.
Define and direct multiple externally based technology development projects at both suppliers and/or universities to meet emissions system critical needs
Investigate new innovative emissions system technologies such as advance catalysts (GPF, HC Traps, EHCs, etc.) and advanced exhaust sensors (PM, WRO2, Temperature, Pressure, etc.)
Direct/schedule day-to-day activities of engine/PT dynamometer or vehicle based testing, which may include interaction with technicians and support engineers
Apply appropriate procedures and methodologies for project management (planning, scheduling, DVP&R, DFMEA and reporting of findings) to reach project deliverables including use of tools such as: MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Support quality improvement efforts, share lessons learned, and perform benchmarking analysis
- This position will report directly to manager and operate under the general direction of the department senior manager Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an ABET accredited university
Minimum of 7 years of experience in gasoline engine emissions calibration
Experience with the following: development and calibration of port and direct fuel injected spark ignition engines, powertrain systems calibration development, OBD calibration, and engine calibration
Experience as a technical lead / specialist in an emissions calibration role
Skilled in data acquisition and analysis including use of MATLAB and Simulink
Working knowledge of engine analysis and calibration tools, emissions regulations, engine technologies and competitive products
