Process Engineering Specialist - Metal Fitting & Joining (Second Shift)

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
Working under minimal direction:
30% - Oversee and troubleshoot critical metal fitting & braze foiling operations for tubes, ducts, flanges, liners, jackets and similar components prior to weld/brazing operations.
35% - Develop processing parameters and document best practices to support production.
10% - Implement process controls, including statistical controls, to fitting processes to reduce/eliminate rework.
10% - Define tube fab & metal fitting equipment/specification requirements.
10% - Perform root cause analysis, disposition discrepant hardware, define and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrance.
5% - Accurately report problems, solutions, and results, in concise written and oral communications. Communicate effectively between team members and customer counterparts.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Weld/Braze Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology (or other related discipline) and 9 years of related experience in aerospace working with nickel, stainless, ferrous and aluminum alloys (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
US Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Experience working with Torch Weld Jigs (TWJ) , setting weldments up for exact shrinkages to fit TWJ post weld.
Experience/knowledge of working with metallic braze alloys and joining processes of dissimilar materials.

Works independently and in concert with others to perform processes necessary to efficiently and effectively fabricate detail parts. The operator must function as a productive, contributing and responsible member of his/her work team. Essential Job Duties and
Follows all company and work center specific production, administration and safety policies and procedures. Attends and actively participates in all required training.
Reviews manufacturing planning, part-specific engineering information, set-up information and/or related instructions to understand appropriate work process and quality requirements for completed product.
For machine dependent operations, selects proper tooling, programs and edits to machines (i.e. set-up machine) and starts and observes machine operation during first part production to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions. Adjusts machine controls or other control media as required. Depending upon work center assignment, the operator will set-up and operate but not limited to one or more of the following machines: roll form, turret, brake press, hyrdopress and drill press.
Uses gauges, scales, calipers, mylars and/or blueprints, customer tools and other measuring equipment to check first part quality. Obtains first part for buy-off from lead person, supervisor, quality control inspector and/or second team member. Upon buy-off, completes production run for the manufacturing planning operation. Performs 100% inspection of all parts, subsequent to first part buy-off, and completes requirements of applicable statistical process control plans. Where available, uses target times to evaluate timely completion of work. Notifies lead person or supervisor about substantive discrepancies between manufacturing planning target time and actual set-up and/or run times.
Responsible for minor machine maintenance and maintaining proper alignment and condition of machine.
Completes required documentation, including but not limited to: manufacturing planning operation buy-off, recording of accurate part counts, labor card entry, set-up information, special notes, data collection plans, tie-in information and recording the disposition of non-conforming material. Tears down machine or hand tool set-up upon completion of production run, returning all tools, equipment and accessories to their proper locations. Moves complete part order to next manufacturing operation or staging area.
Works with others, using continuous process improvement tools and techniques and just-in-time manufacturing techniques, to develop and install process improvements that positively impact manufacturing through-put, machine and human resources utilization, space utilization, organization and other factors. Assists to incorporate process improvements into document instructions.
Actively participates in work center and cross-functional process improvement teams by attending team meetings, completing action items, encouraging complete and respectful discussion and understanding of goals, alternatives and solutions.
Work in a fast paced environment with fast changing priorities, providing a high level of attention to detail and focus on a given task and keeping work area clean and organized
Complete other duties as assigned by the management team including working as needed in various other positions to support work flow and to fill in for other team members.
Education and/or Experience:

Primary Purpose of Position:
Provides technical support for the research and development function as directed.
Subject matter expert for high speed aluminum metal forming technologies, including drawing, ironing, stamping, impact extrusion and spinning.
Creates new packaging designs in aluminum and generates / executes various mechanical and process testing on new packaging.
Works with design team to develop metal forming tooling and sequences to create final product. Strong technical drawing, dimensioning (including GD&T), metrology, tool manufacture and machine design knowledge needed.
Works with new and existing suppliers to create new or transfer existing processes to metal forming.
Interacts with customers to generate new packaging designs and validates package integrity on customer filling lines.
Creates and documents innovations into finalized IP, including patents and trade secrets

What is the role?
We are currently seeking a Metal Working Fluids (MWF) Laboratory Supervisor for our Midwestern regional laboratory located in Hoffman Estates, IL. The supervisor is responsible for managing personnel and workflow in the MWF sample testing area.
They oversee production, quality control, equipment maintenance, supply inventory, purchasing, and training of assigned personnel. The laboratory supervisor also complies KPI's for the department, leads a morning staff meeting, and ensures that subordinates comply with test procedures, work instructions, and safety policies and procedures.
The position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate of Science degree and prior supervisory experience in a laboratory setting, or a minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor in similar environment. Prior experience in a MWF testing laboratory or certification as a Metal Working Fluid Specialist is a plus.
The qualified person who fills this position will earn an annual salary of $55,000, be eligible for Medical/Dental, 401K, paid holiday and vacation time.
