Physical Effort Required: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require the worker to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Moderate physical effort is used in operating hand and foot controls when driving, turning, stopping and starting the forklifts and motor vehicles and in raising, lowering and tilting the forklift loads. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, material and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions:Subject to working out-of-doors during periods of inclement weather. Is exposed to serious injuries while operating vehicles over public roads and on the installation. Works on concrete floors and in drafty areas. May be exposed to fumes, fluids, dirt, battery acids, etc., resulting in bruises, cuts, burns, and skin irritation Wearing of hearing protection and other safety equipment is required during all periods of exposure to hazardous conditions. The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Motor Equipment Mechanic IV. The Motor Equipment Mechanic supervises the region's garage and assists in repairing, overhauling and servicing automobiles, motor trucks, tractors, and other motor-driven machinery owned by the state; estimates cost of repairs, requisitions parts and supplies, and keeps records of work done. Specific duties include:
Supervises and participates in the repairing, overhauling and servicing of automotive equipment.
Assists in overhauling transmissions and ignition systems, and replaces or repairs damaged parts.
Assists in adjusting and repairing brakes, carburetors, hydraulic pumps, cylinder heads, valves and similar automotive components.
Records the mileage and the consumption of gasoline, oil and antifreeze for each vehicle.
Schedules periodic motor equipment inspections and services for state vehicles.
Estimates cost of repairs to motor equipment and keeps records of work done.
Requisitions automotive parts and supplies used in the garage and maintains an inventory of supplies.
Inspects completed repairs to verify that they have been properly made and inspects new vehicles to determine condition.
Performs electric and acetylene welding on vehicles and equipment as needed.
Rebuilds or repairs automotive and truck bodies as needed.
Locks all gates at maintenance yard.
Ensures that all buildings for storing equipment, tools, parts, etc. are secure.
Receives shipments and is responsible for contents.
Picks up new cars, trucks at dealers and prepares vehicles for service
Arranges for repair of vehicles at outside vendors.
Services and repairs heavy equipment, generators and pumps assigned to Section.
Provides emergency road service for DCR vehicles.

Maintain records for the repair garage and staff
Enters data into FleetWave management system as requested by management.
Calls in needed repairs and pm maintenance needs to fleet to open work orders.
Works directly with Chief Maintenance Mechanic in all aspects of the position.

Schedule vehicle service with Divisional staff.
