Intertek is a construction materials testing and inspection firm that provides Quality Assurance services for all phases of building construction, from foundation piles to roofing inspections. Our engineering staff analyzes and specifies protocols for testing and inspection as required by local codes and project specifications. Our team has vast experience with infrastructure, institutional, building and transportation projects. We are expanding our team and looking for Construction Inspectors.
Construction Inspectors will perform inspections at various jobsites in the NJ/NY Metro Area. Construction Material Inspections may include but are not limited to Concrete Inspections and Testing, Reinforcing Steel Inspection, Masonry Inspection, Soil and Asphalt Densities, Fire Proofing, Fire Stopping, Structural Steel.
Read construction documents to determine project details and specification
Neatly and accurately complete all required paperwork, including daily reports, test reports and timesheets – in a timely manner
Record and reports test results after performing mathematical calculations, making graphical solutions and graphical representations
Communicate orally and in writing with engineers and staff members, agencies' representatives, contractors and business and property owners
Perform maintenance/cleaning of equipment and calibration and adjustments as needed
Adhere to construction site safety guidelines and promotes a safe working environment
Inspection of construction operations
Experience in the Testing and Inspection of Construction Materials
Certification in ACI, ICC, and NICET are a plus
Must be able to climb ladders, bend, crawl, push and pull, stretch, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time
Must have valid drivers' license
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
Must be punctual and reliable with good attention to detail

This position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the return of merchandise and/or issuing discounts on invoices. Success in this position has a direct impact on the company's profitability goal and impacts Cash Flow from Operations. Flux is currently seeking a Construction Materials Inspector for a direct hire opportunity with a global professional services group in planning and design for urban development and transportation. This position can sit in multiple locations.
How you’ll spend your days:
The Off Site Supplier Quality Materials Inspector supports the implementation and execution of quality inspections and audits at supplier and fabrication shops and batch plant inspections. The Off Site Supplier Quality Materials Inspector’s primary responsibility is to perform QA/QC shop Inspections and audits to ensure critical materials purchased, meet or exceed our customer’s and contract quality and workmanship expectations. The Off Site Supplier Quality Materials Inspector will perform pre-cast/pre-stress concrete inspections (pre-pour and post-pour), concrete strength/mix design evaluations, and other structural inspections to ensure products are produced within architectural pre-cast/pre-stress specs. The Off Site Supplier Quality Materials Inspector will provide periodic and occasional oversight of pre-cast/pre-stress concrete fabrication as various precast facilities and serve as a point of contact for Project Managers and Engineers. The Off Site Supplier Quality Materials Inspector may also assist in ensuring the subcontracts or corporate agreements for materials meet quality standards and customer’s expectations. Focus areas will be concrete products such as bridge beams, arches, highway barriers, double tees, sound walls panels, lined piping systems, trench boxes and culverts.
- Have a working understanding of concrete and reinforcing materials and processes related to fabrication, testing, and functionality.
- Be able to read and understand materials specifications, drawings, provide feedback in regards to recommended testing and inspections.
- Report to management and Project personnel about fabrication problems, and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.
- Communicate inspection results, both verbally and written, with those responsible for the materials, and recommend necessary corrective actions.
- Have a thorough knowledge of quality procedures, documents, and reporting structures.
- Assist in Supplier/Subcontractor prequalification by providing input on the fabricator’s quality programed by performing supplier Audits.
- Provide support to Districts and projects in overseeing fabricator and subcontractor quality and batch plant selection/qualification as needed.
- Review Supplier/Subcontractor NCR’s and assist in developing corrective action plans. Coordinate with Quality Managers to approve final disposition and sign off of NCR’s.
- Provide input rating the overall quality performance of suppliers and subcontractors. Conduct Audits as needed.
- Highly skilled and experienced in written and verbal communications to include leading pre-fabrication meetings, creating pre-fabrication checklists, writing inspection reports.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- A four-year engineering, science or technical college or university degree plus 4 years of Supplier quality experience. OR an Associate degree in engineering technology or science plus at least five years of Supplier Quality experience.
- Pre-Cast Concrete Institute (PCI) Certified - minimum PCI level 2 certified.
- Must have a broad working knowledge of other design/craft disciplines and materials associated with Transportation Infrastructure Industrial projects. Must be familiar with associated special processes, inspection, auditing and testing techniques.
- Must be familiar with materials procurement and vendor surveillance procedures as well as working knowledge of construction industry codes and standards ACI, PCI, ASTM, AWS, ASME, NACE, etc.).
