Job experience should include hazardous waste sampling, storage, testing, packaging, and manifesting of hazardous waste; knowledge of regulations contained in CCR Title 22, 40 CFR, 49 CFR, and Health and Safety Code Division 20, Chapter 6.5; site inspections and report preparation; and/or conducting hazardous material training activities.
Management of household hazardous waste experience including coordinating and managing community collection events or permanent centers; testing materials collected through a household hazardous waste or load check program; identifying, confirming, and categorizing chemical waste, and packaging and manifesting waste materials received; and knowledge of regulations contained in CCR Title 22, 40 CFR, 49 CFR, and Health and Safety Code Division 20, Chapter 6.5.
Environmental control experience including storm water, pesticide site assessment and/or air pollution control management with job duties including inspection and sampling, reporting, process design, knowledge of regulations, training, and program implementation.

The primary responsibility of the entry level operator is to produce Chemical with minimal supervision. Processing of hazardous materials will include identifying, labeling of waste products and delivering to the proper storage area, returning empty containers, and using associate container handling equipment.

Direct Material Management
The Production & Material Planner is accountable for availability of starting materials for production processes

Monitors actual and forecasted consumption of materials and orders replenishment stock
Manage timely and efficient processing of purchase orders through the procurement process.

Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to:
Assists the Chief Inspector on a significant portion of complex projects by completing complex inspection activities to ensure successful completion of projects.
Serves as the Chief Inspector on less complex construction projects to ensure successful completion of projects.
Performs and/or directs frequent/routine field testing of construction materials (for example. grading and base, bituminous, and concrete), analyzes test results, and verifies material quality and determines if construction materials meet MnDOT specifications.
Performs construction inspections and verifies the dimensions and tolerances of constructed roadway features to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
Performs required complex inspection activities of grading and base or bridge projects, and bituminous and concrete paving operations to ensure successful completion of projects.
Reports known deficiencies to Chief Inspector and verifies corrections of known deficiencies to ensure the project complies with project documents.
Performs routine documentation to record location, quantity and quality of contract work and also completes required reports and administrative documentation (such as pay items, force account summaries, test reports,, usage reports, etc.) within MnDOT requirements from letting to finalization to ensure records of work and materials used are accurate and timely.
Applies enforcement procedures to the contract for less complex construction projects or recommends the application of enforcement procedures to the Chief Inspector when working on the most complex projects to ensure successful completion of projects.
Monitors contractor and traffic control safety practices, ensures personal safety is protected, and ensures the project is completed using applicable safety practices, rules and programs.
Provides work direction to assistant inspectors and/or student workers in gaining required technical skills through MnDOT's technical certification program.
Measures, computes, documents and enters pay items into Field Ops and determines amount of payment to contractor.
Interprets plans and specifications to ensure contractor compliance.
Assists with final reviews on construction projects to ensure contractors have the appropriate certification.
Function: Snow & Ice:
Drives snow plow to maintain roadways: removes snow from roadways and shoulders; opens and widens roadways of large accumulations of snow; removes snow from rights of way or yards; applies anti-icing and de-icing chemicals on stretches of highway under slippery conditions; removes frozen ice and material from culverts; and performs night or dawn patrols
NOTE: Incumbents will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. New employees must pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), and amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetylmorphine (6-AM).
The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
The level of experience to perform this job can be achieved with:
Exam Part 1 (experience):
- Two years of experience performing contract administration (roadway and/or bridge construction) activities or related activities;
- A combination of one year of experience in any of the following areas: bridge maintenance, bridge safety inspection, contract administration (roadway and/or bridge construction), design, hydraulics, materials, soils, permits planning, predesign, right of way, road surface/roadside maintenance, and signs, surveys, snow/ice, and/or traffic engineering) may substitute for one year of performing contract administration (roadway and/or bridge construction) activities.
Certification in Aggregate production, Grading and Base 1, Bituminous Street 1 and Concrete Field I; or the ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
NOTE: A two year Civil Technology Degree or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience performing contract administration (roadway/and/or bridge construction) activities (in order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts).
Exam Part 1 Licenses: A valid Class D Driver's License with no major traffic convictions in the past 5 years AND the ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver
- Class B license with no air brake restrictions and tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire (training will be provided).
Exam Part 2: Receipt of a passing score of Level 5 or higher on the math portion of the computerized test and Level 5 or higher on the computerized reading test. [The job offer is contingent on passing a basic math and reading test.] Applicants meeting Exam Part 1 will be contacted to test and may select a test site based on their geographic availability.
Preference will be given to candidates who have the following:
Previous MnDOT experience with documented satisfactory performance
Certification in Aggregate Production; Grading and Base I and II; Concrete Field I and II; Bituminous Street I and II, and Signal and Lighting.
The physical demands of this job will vary, but may require the ability to joint lift up to 150 pounds maximum with frequent moving and/or lifting or otherwise transfer of objects of various weights. This job also may require walking, moving, standing, to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls. This job may require strenuous physical labor including but not limited to digging, shoveling, hauling, crawling, bending, pushing, pulling and climbing.
