What You Will Do: Sets up and performs welding, fabrication, and machining operations of metal parts and assemblies in a research/prototype environment. Completes the fabrication and repair of precision instruments and components. Uses formal drawings, solid models, sketches, written specifications and verbal instructions to complete assignments. Maintains AWS B2.1 welder qualification for aluminum and stainless steel.
Utilizes MIG, TIG, Oxy Acetylene, and orbital welding equipment for welding, brazing, and soldering various materials to customer's specifications.
Operates manual and CNC milling machines, lathes, drill presses, grinding machines, band and cutoff saws, hand grinders, drills, rivet tools, wrenches, saws, hammers, etc., to produce specialized instruments.
Assists the Logistics Technician in the maintenance of the heavy equipment operated by the group, such as cranes, forklifts, semi tractors, trailers, and other EOL supported field deployable systems.
Fabricates functional scientific instruments and equipment including necessary jigs and fixtures. Fabricates and modifies assemblies to customer's specifications off site.
Assembles, tests, and repairs various instruments and equipment.
What You Need:
Education and Years of Experience:
Completion of a relevant machine trade/welding vocational program, and at least two years of experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have basic hand tools and measuring tools which include calipers, micrometers, scales, and measuring tape.
Must possess or be able to pass AWS B2.1 welder qualification testing for aluminum and stainless steel within three months of hiring.

JOB DUTIES SUMMARY:
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates all machine tools and equipment necessary to make,
alter, or repair a wide variety of complicated tools, jigs, fixtures, dies, molds, and
gauges, and performs required bench operations such as die assembling, laying out,

SKILL SUMMARY: Requires a thorough knowledge of shop math, machine and
hand tools, measuring instruments and working properties of various metals. Employees must be thoroughly experienced in the construction, alteration or repair of all tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges.
Requires a high degree of ability to plan and perform work of a difficult nature where only general methods of procedure are available. Tool & Die Makers must be able to work with only general supervision.

Tool & Die Maker
Tool and Die Maker individual analyzes specifications, lay out metal stock, set-up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinist by performing the following duties.
Process methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, other duties may be assigned:
Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.

Able to identify, perform and troubleshoot tooling operations in manufacturing for improved quality and tooling life.
Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.
Examines repairs and maintains standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
Works to tolerance as close as .0001 inch
Works under limited supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Senior Mold Maker

What You'll Do:
As the Lead Mold Maker, you will repair, enhance, and perform preventative maintenance on Injection Molds, Stamping Dies, End of Arm Tools and components to ensure the injection molding production runs smoothly.
Your Accountabilities in the Role:
Reviews the schedule and ensures the components and molds are production ready to meet the production schedule.
Enters purchase orders to replace components and supplies as needed.
Repairs and enhances molds to ensure the molds are available for production runs.
Performs day to day preventative maintenance as needed on the molds to keep production running smoothly at all times.
Leads and mentors tool room people to help problem-solve, train, and increase their skill set in working with the molds or doing changeovers for production.
Education: Mold Making Journeyman card preferred or an equivalent of education, apprenticeship, and/or experience.
Experience: 3-5+ years of progressive mold making/repair experience in a large, fast-paced injection molding environment preferred (must be highly skilled to work independently).
Skilled in mold repair and safely operating the tool room equipment (lathes, grinders, mills, EDM's etc), to perform work successfully. Experience in metrology and measuring tools (US & Metric), and the ability to read blueprints is important. Must have excellent math skills and be able to plan, coordinate, and prioritize multiple projects to meet production needs. Foundational understanding of Quality Systems, Safety, Lean Thinking and 5S would be strong plus.
Technical Aptitude/PC/Other: Good at Microsoft Word/Excel to correspond well with vendors, manager, and team members. Familiar with ERP systems for reviewing and entering data would be helpful.
Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.

The Senior Tool & Die Maker will work under minimal supervision and be responsible to. Support the timely manufacture and maintenance of high precision, multi-station, progressive press-tools for electronic components.
They will ensure that production parts meet drawings and specifications and be sure the completion of tasks, are efficient to support production schedules. Troubleshoot, repair and maintain the press-tools in a production environment. Support punch press operators for set up and processing of production orders. Apply knowledge of tool design, shop math, material properties, fabrication and assembly to utilize Tool Room equipment including computers, machines, tools, instruments, gages, etc. for designing, fabricating or repairing production tooling.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans the layout, fabrication and assembly of production machining tooling, such as holding and checking fixtures, machining jigs, forming dies, templates, molds centering and locating devices, production and inspection gauges and special machine accessories and attachments.
Works from tool design drawings, sketches, part or part print, or verbal information as to purpose or function of tooling.
Supplies information lacking on the design, print or sketch.
Makes determinations as to tooling materials most suited, material processing required, type of tool construction, reference and coordination points which must be held, lay out machining, assembly, finish and tolerances required.
Lays out details of tools preparatory to machine or other tool fabrication operations required.
Makes such tools as drill jigs, checking fixtures, and drill plates involving irregular contours and locating points in more than one plane, fixtures for holding compound angle cuts to true planes, multiple purpose fixtures, forming stage dies, molds, quick change chucks, centering and locating devices and special production and inspection tooling.
Sets up and operates any machine tools as required in the fabrication of tooling and in proving of tooling (i.e., lathes, mills, grinders, etc.)
Improvises minimum cost tooling for one-time or rush jobs.
Designs, builds, fits and assembles components according to assembly blue-prints, manuals, engineering memos, sketches, and knowledge of machine construction to construct prototype machinery, using hand tools and power tools.
Performs all set ups without assistance according to blueprint specifications.
Sets up compound and progressive dies for multiple action, toggle and punch presses when required with no assistance.
Minimum 8 years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker, along tool & die apprentice training or equivalent.
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
Assembly with small parts experience
Legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship

Skills and Abilities:
Ability to plan the construction of tooling, working from tool design, part or part print or functional information.
Knowledge of machine shop theory and practice.
The employee may be required to work beyond normal working hours from time to time as the workload dictates.
Ability to lay out parts in detail for required machining operations.
Must be familiar with the general composition of tooling steels, machinability of metals, effect of heat treat on steel.
Experience with reviewing drawings and schematic layouts.
Ability to set up and operate basic and special purpose tool room machines.
Ability to do hand and machine work to precise tolerances.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Work independently to assess repairs and setup tool room equipment to perform specific tasks
Accurately measure mold components using gauges, jo blocks, comparator, micrometers and other measuring devices to determine fit and machining required to accomplish repairs
Operate mills, lathes, grinders, EDM equipment both conventional and CNC
Advise supervisor of practical means to accomplish repairs based on assessment of the work required
Disassemble tooling and reassemble as required to fit critical components
Accomplish assigned repair work in a timely and efficient manner
Work within molding and mold prep departments to help repair and assemble tooling
Maintain tools and advise supervisor of repairs status and the need for purchased accessories and tooling components
Build fixtures, and other devices to support production as required
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or equivalent
3-5 years' work experience in a manufacturing environment evaluating, troubleshooting, and building/repairing injection molds
Technical or vocational school, preferred
Journeyman status in machining/tooling, preferred
Experience with tools ranging 300-13,000lbs and molding machines 80 ton to 770 ton, preferred
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to operate C.N.C equipment
Ability to work from sketches, prints, or samples
Ability to interact with other between departments effectively
Ability to use CAM software, preferred

Tool & Die Maker
Selects, sets up and operates numerous pieces of precision machinery, equipment and fixtures for the purpose of laying out and preparing of fin die blanks; performs die maintenance and repair and performs necessary maintenance of all precision components of the fin presses.
Supports Engineering's needs in the design, fabrication, installation, modification and repair of tooling and fixtures.
Job Duties and Procedures
Must be able to perform the duties of the Diaform Grinder.
Maintain inventory of tools and materials for operation of Tool Room.
Inspection of tools, dies and fixtures that are made by outside vendors.
Keep records of all dies.
Make tool reports of finished tools.
Coordinate work between tool maker and die form grinders.
Work with Engineering to understand tooling concepts, requirements, layout, anticipated problems, and tool build load forecast.
Support Maintenance when needed.
Maintain and overhaul fin presses.
Build, sharpen and troubleshoot fin dies.
Assist Engineers in estimating time and materials of jobs.
Coordinate heat treat process.
Try out new tooling and make revisions if needed.
If required, prepare tool sketches.
Set up and operate precision tools.
Perform minor brazing operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Person should have or should qualify for a five-year state indentured apprenticeship or equivalent.
Person should have background in mathematics, mechanical drawing, metallurgy and machine shop practices.
Ability to program CNC equipment using 'G' and 'M' code format
Ability to read prints and interpret machining requirements.
Ability to maintain machining tolerances of ±.0002.
Ability to square up fixturing on table to .0000 over a length of 36".
Ability to identify different shapes of truing diamonds and the working condition of the diamond.
Must be able to adjust tooling and equipment to tolerance of .000 to .0000.
Ability to identify, monitor and compensate for machine expansion changes.
Ability to stone and hone a sharp radius on tool steel.
Must be able to weld and braze a variety of metals.
Must be able to communicate at all levels from shop floor operator to engineer.
Working conditions may vary from a temperature controlled, isolated environment to areas which are cramped, greasy and poorly lit. Exposed to sharp edges, high speed cutting tools and oil. Standing, reaching, bending and lifting 0 to 50 lbs. When lifting over 50 lbs., two people are required.
The employee who performs this job has responsibility to maintain proper housekeeping in the work area and keep machines in good operating condition. Is also responsible for safety and quality workmanship and procedures.
