Job Description Works from drawings, process books, MPS's and verbal instructions in the fabrication of micro-integrated circuit modules and subassemblies. Performs moderately complex soldering operations such as tin and solder nickel plated components with indium solder.
Hand cuts plastic dielectric material and solder preforms of complex configurations and minimum size (.020" X .020"). Installs large piece parts such as drivers, using appropriate epoxy, and proceeds to cure to specifications . Sets up and performs the hot stage operation (reflow soldering) which involves the following: identification of piece parts and positioning to specifications; dimensional checks; operation of hot stage unit in which the operator has control over several variables such as nitrogen flow, hydrogen flow, current flow, etc.; observation under microscope to proper melt; shut-down and clean equipment and workpiece. Requires thorough knowledge of the physical and working characteristics of solder alloys. Covers modules using either epoxy gasket or solder seal and vacuum bake.
Equipment used involves several operations and variable controls to properly seal units. Installs hermetically sealed connectors into housing, using hand insertion tools. Performs temperature cycling.
Under direct supervision may reposition parts using hot plate. Performs simple bonding (i.e., .001" gold wire to capacitors' chip) where equipment has been set up and direct observation of progress and quality is possible. Examples of required documentation and procedural instructions, in addition to Level I, are special product travelers, inspection service requests, routing modules in hot quantity and as required by area.

Experience performing development and sustaining validation engineering (programming and test board design/debug) with mixed-signal or analog semiconductor device testers (Verigy 93000, Teradyne Catalyst-400, and NP EXA3000 testers).
Programming ATE using C+\
or other object oriented language. Desired:
Advanced STEM degree preferred.
Experience with semiconductor testers such as the Verigy 93000, the NP EXA 3000, and the Teradyne Catalyst.
Scripting program knowledge: Python, Perl, Unix.
Experience developing and implementing test plans for characterization, final test, and wafer sort testing.
Experience designing device interface boards, debugging and releasing devices (mostly ASICs) to production.
Ability to work independently and as part of a complex team of designers and test engineers. Department Description: Sandia's microelectronics reliability, failure analysis, and test department is responsible for science-based microelectronics, MEMS, and optoelectronics testing, yield improvement, and product reliability for both internal and external customers.
