Sr Data Analytics/Business Intelligence Specialist
WGL is seeking two (2) Data Analytics Analysts to support our Business Analytics department in our Springfield, VA location. The Analyst will be responsible for continuously improving the use of company and client data and information and identifying new growth opportunities from this data. The position uses data analysis and reporting software such as SAP, PL/SQL, CLICK, SAP HANA, Business Objects, and Tableau within Washington Gas' Utility Operations. The analysts are accountable for reporting and analyzing data, creating dashboards, and providing various types of management information for leadership. They liaise and work closely with corporate IT and BI functions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Handles requests from various business units for operational data needed from SAP and other systems – also identifies ways to automate such requests and/or facilitate self-serve for business units for data/reports
Uses GIS/mapping software and data visualization tools to assist with route optimization/resource allocation; Coordinates modifications to the operational regions as required
Develops in-depth knowledge and expertise and performs analysis to ensure accuracy of corporate information and data systems and their associated interconnectivity
Gains understanding of various operations business processes and leverages knowledge/understanding gained to support development and delivery of improvements/recommendations
Monitor and coordinate the business units' activities to support operational performance management
Develops, maintains performance metrics, runs queries, and reports using Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau and other systems for Utility Operations, including KPIs
Performs statistical analysis to identify and implement efficiency improvements in resource management
Develops and maintains productivity and quality metrics for Utility Operations personnel
Creates and constantly improves operational dashboards for Utility Operations
Retrieve and analyze data to support ad-hoc business needs and strategic decisions through identifying and troubleshoots data errors within WG systems of records and recommends solutions accordingly
Completes other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's Degree in a business, engineering, statistics, or data analysis related discipline
Minimum five (5) years of related experience
Advanced level proficiency using - Excel, Tableau, SAP HANA, Business Objects, SQL, GIS (Smallworld and or ESRI)
Demonstrated strong proficiency in data analytics tools such as R, Alteryx, SAS or other such tools used by analysts and data scientists to process data from multiple sources to provide valuable management information
Demonstrated strong working knowledge of statistical and optimization tools, such as measurement systems analysis, capability analysis, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, correlation and regression analysis
Demonstrated ability to complete analytical data intensive projects, as well as the ability to clearly communicate the results to a broad spectrum of audiences.
Demonstrated ability to achieve process efficiency improvements through the use of data analysis
Knowledge of WG systems of record preferred, including but not limited to Itron FCS & FDM, SAP, CLICK, SAP Work Manager, CGI's ARM suite, Smallworld, ESRI, and Application Xtender

Bachelor's degree required (Information Systems, Business and/or Computer Science preferred)
Minimum 5 years of related experience working with data, analytics and insights.
Minimum 5 years designing and delivering analytic solutions, dashboards, visualizations and actionable insights.
Minimum 5 years creating and delivering client presentations and stories that connect data analysis, data science and analytics to useful business insights.
Ability to articulate and correlate data to business strategy.
Hands-on experience with Tableau Desktop.
Experience working with Postgres, Timescale DB and/or other related database technologies.
Experience working with SQL and complex SQL.
Experience with dimensional data modeling techniques.
Dynamic personality and passion for data, analytics, visualizations and storytelling is very important for this role.
Keen sense of user interface design, style, aesthetics and effective visual presentation.
Experience with client consultation to internal or external customers is required.
Experience with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience with retail, QSR, CPG, digital advertising and mobile industries is beneficial.
Experience with data in sensors, wifi, digital signage is beneficial.
Experience in the retail industry from a data perspective is beneficial.
Hands-on experiences with other BI/visualization technologies including open source or proprietary.
Understanding and experience with database technologies is beneficial including Oracle, SQLServer, etc..
Understanding and experience with BI platform technologies is beneficial: Tableau, Microstrategy, Microsoft, OBI, etc..
A solid understanding of methodology, data and systems from a broad range of research and analytics providers, including emerging tools and methods.
Experience and understanding of the following areas: strategic analytics, marketing analytics, digital analytics, data analytics, statistics, data science, big data, normalization, modeling, quant research, analytics consulting.
Ability to distill complex statistical concepts and methodology, and articulate insights to cross-functional teams and clients with varying levels of knowledge in this space.
Experience and understanding of various statistical modeling tools and platforms -- including R, SAS and SPSS -- is beneficial.
Experience in ecommerce, wifi, app messaging, social and other datasets is beneficial.
Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence methods and practice is beneficial.
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, results-oriented work environment.
Experience with agile development methodologies.
Ability to handle and adjust to change in requirements and direction.
