Constantly patrols all parts of all machinery and checks for quality defects on section and makes overhauls, repairs, or adjustments as needed.
Perform all “check lists” type duties on style changes, new warps and maintenance looms. Supervisor may assign assistance as deemed necessary.
Performs preventive maintenance procedures on looms. Records all action on the proper forms, takes corrective action or makes recommendations for repair.
Inspect machine malfunction and woven cloth to locate problems, determine work to be done, repair, clean, adjust, lubricate, etc. as required to correct malfunction.
Repairs or replaces defective parts, adjusts tension and timing of parts using hand tools.
Levels and aligns parts to prevent excessive wear.
Assists the warp changer personnel on cleaning and start-up of looms at warp out.
Will perform routine cleaning duties.
Blow off designated looms once per shift to keep them free of dust, scrap, etc.
May be required to run a set of looms at times when we are short a weaver due to vacations, sickness, etc.
Assist weaver as needed in repairing stops and creeling fill yarn.

Crossnore Weavers & Gallery is currently seeking part-time weavers to create hand-woven placemats at its facility on the Avery Campus of Crossnore School & Children's Home. The ability to weave on a four-harness loom is preferred.
Weavers are required to follow all recommended directions for dressing looms, winding warps, weaving items, and removing product from looms. Weavers must be able to follow directions, assist and support co-workers, meet and speak with customers and visitors, and be dependable and punctual. Weaving placemats is physically demanding; this position requires the ability to perform normal physical functions including but not limited to lifting, bending, and stretching.
For over 100 years, the art of hand-weaving has been an integral part of what is now Crossnore School & Children's Home. Mary Martin Sloop, Crossnore School founder, established a program to revive and preserve hand-weaving that would provide jobs and income for mountain families as well as create beautiful, signature goods to sell nationwide for the support of her mission to educate and care for children.

Set up, operate, or tend machines that knit, loop, weave, or draw in textiles. This employee
participates in any improvement that is necessary to achieve customer satisfaction. Total

Operates battery of looms to weave yarn into cloth.
Continuously patrol looms and creels.
Corrects misdraws and crossed ends.
Observes cloth being woven to detect weaving defects.
Removes defects in cloth by cutting and pulling out filling.
Adjusts pattern chain to resume weaving.
Examines looms to determine cause of loom stoppage, such as warp, filling, harness
breaks, or mechanical defects.
Uses air splicer to splice pieces of yarn to broken end and threads yarn through drop
wires, heddle eyes, and reed dents to repair warp breaks, using reed hook.
Pulls out broken filling and pushes shuttle through shed to insert new pick and repair
Adjust machine heating mechanisms, tensions, and speeds to produce specified
Inspect products to ensure that specifications are met and to determine if machines
Notify supervisors or technicians of mechanical malfunctions.
Record information about work completed and machine settings.
Manages supply room to 6S standards

The weaver is responsible for the operation of 13-23 weaving machines. The individual creels and threads various yarns through metal devices on the loom to create a woven fabric.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual lifts cones of yarn which weigh between 8-25lbs and places them on a creel rack.
The individual will be on his/her feet for the twelve hour shift except for breaks.
The individual has to pull cones of yarn off racks hourly and reaches across the loom to locate and repair yarn breaks frequently.
The individual will push-pull a creel rack or cone rack to reposition it.
The individual is walking from machine to machine during the shift. The person has to step up onto a catwalk attached to the loom.
The individual has to be able to distinguish between colors since various colors of yarn are used. Also the loom indicator lights; yellow, blue and red, require the ability to distinguish colors.
The individual has to pass a hearing test since the weaving area is a high noise area requiring ear-protection. Verbal communication with shift foreman and co-workers is necessary in the work area.
Since a break in yarn occurs frequently, rethreading the yarn is necessary. The individual should be a minimum height of 5'0" in order to complete this task.
The individual places cones of yarn on a creel rack and repairs yarn break outs on the loom.
The individual has to be a self-starter since he will be assigned 13-23 machines.
The individual has to respond to the various loom indicator lights and repair the yarn break in a timely manner to met production requirements.
The individual will be required to decide when and how to correct a yarn break out and when and how to set up the creel rack. These activities are done constantly.
The individual is required to make various quality control checks hourly and correct as required in order to met production demands.
- High School Graduate with the ability to read and write. No computer skills required.
The individual should have a previous machinery work background or an interest to work with machinery. The individual needs to be aware that he/she will be on his/her feet for the entire 12-hour shift which requires being in good physical condition. The individual should have a previous work record and no accidents since he/she will be working around a lot of machinery and moving machine parts.
