Numerical Control Multiple Tool & Milling Machine Operator A
NC machine operators setup, operate and adjust numerous types of Numerically Controlled (NC) single and multiple tool milling machines, utilizing pre-planned control media and/or program documents to fabricate close tolerance, high quality parts from various types of metals.
Job Responsibilities include:
Employment in this position also requires finger manipulation, handling, lifting less than 10 pounds, standing, walking, contact with metals, exposure to noise and atmospheric conditions, and the use of personal safety gear for face/eye, hand/arm, ears and feet.
Prepare to set-up job (e.g., production orders, first lots, tool tryouts) or run previously set-up job by reviewing work order, tie-in sheets, operator's or setup documents, blueprints or CATIA plots.
Ensure that correct material (type and quantity) and tools or fixtures were issued and are free from visible defects.
Identify type of set-up required. Check machine set-up and/or parts completed by previous operator to determine progress on a job and ensure safe working conditions, as required.
Select machine accessories and holding devises (e.g., chucks, vises, turntables, templates, probes).
Verify that apparatus is in good condition.
Identify fixtures, shop aids, or templates to be built and fabricate as required.
Attach machine accessories, tools, fixtures (e.g. coolant lines, air nozzles, suction devises), shop aides, and gears using dial indicators, edge finders, wrenches, bolts, clamps, and overhead cranes.
Retrieve and download CNC programs to machine controller using computing equipment and downloading from various servers/data bases.
Select and check cutting tools per program or CNC documents.
Ensure cutters are the correct type, length, diameter, radius, and are in good condition.
Load and unload cutters following program information or set-up documents, using tool holders, spindle tapers, hand tools (e.g. wrenches, mallets, spanners) and/or overhead cranes.
Set machine coordinates or index points per CNC documents, including cutter offset/compensations, tool heights, and probes, using controller keyboard, coax indicator or digital readout; height blocks, shims and edge finders.
Run CNC programs to machine rough and precision cut parts following NC documents.
Adjust machine settings (e.g. speeds and feeds) to correct machining problems or to prepare machine for next operation in sequence, including; head, spindle, or wheel angles.
Perform minor editing of CNC programs per shop requirements.
Remove all sharp edges from part with a de-burring tool and/or file, as required.
Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC) functions as required.
Handle and dispose of hazardous materials (e.g., coolants, solvents) in approved manner (per Material Safety Data Sheets) using personal protective equipment as required.
Monitor machine during operation for unusual vibration or sounds, watch machine gauges and controller display or digital readout for warnings, visually check cutter path, clearance, chips to ensure smooth operation.
Check work after completion of each operation in job and/or completed job to ensure parts are complete per drawing and that there are no defects (e.g., tool marks, mismatch, incorrect cutter finish).
Maintain personal and tool certifications, as required.

1.Setup and operate one or more Monarch VMC-150, Johnford or Makino vertical machining centers.
2.Complete working knowledge of computer numerical controlled machines, their operation and production methods. (Offset adjustment, minor editing functions, tool setting, insert nomenclature, tape checks).
3.Operation of the distributed numerical control system (DNC).

Job Description: :
Plan, layout, set up, and operate a variety of boring machines to perform any standard boring machine operation on a Variety of production and less complex parts comprised of various types and forms of material.
Work from general instructions, operation sheets, standard practices, complicated drawings and specifications and other written or oral instructions to plan, layout, set up and perform straight and multiple step blind hole or through boring, compound angle boring, milling, facing, spot facing tapping, grinding and other standard boring machine operations to very close tolerances and fine finish.
Use and adapt any standard attachment and holding device.
Use standard methods and practices to hold and align work consistent with required squareness, parallelism, angularity and rigidity of work piece involving ordinary use of jacks, step blocks, size blocks, shims, bolts, clamps and similar devices.
Work from established reference lines and points to locate centers and lay out work accurately requiring the use of shop mathematics.
Maintain several closely interrelated dimensions involving occasional difficult internal measuring in confined areas.
Perform precision electro limit or end gage set-ups to locate work piece to tool by accurate table traverse.
Sharpen cutting tools as required.
Select feeds and speeds in accordance with type of material and finish requirements.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Numerical Control Programmer to join its Manufacturing Organization. This position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.
Program Numerical Control (CNC) Equipment through the use of Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming tools. Adjunct to this function, the NC programmer is required to plan and design the tooling required to perform associated NC operations.
Working from piece part, assembly and layout drawings and manufacturing routing, develop or modify NC code which produces piece parts according to the requirements stipulated in the drawing package. Drawing package interpretation requires knowledge of internal manufacturing processes, drafting standards and geometric tolerancing.
Application of principles of automation in programming and fixture design/utilization should be considered to provide for economical and efficient production of the piece part.
Create/modify machine post processors such that NC code can be output for all CNC controls. Detailed understanding of machine controllers and their associated machine language is needed in order that full utilization of each machine tool can be obtained for each Post Processor.
Develop computer systems environment to promote standardization of programming methods and system tools. This encompasses a detailed understanding of system and application architecture to best utilize tools for the efficient and economical creation of NC code.
Confer with machine tool and CAM manufactures and suppliers to effectively resolve system and controller problems as well as learning new and more efficient means of producing a part.
Create/modify tooling in order to effect Engineering product design and change. Confer with Engineering and Drafting on possibilities for manufacturing economy through design simplification and standardization of parts. Represent Tool Design department in planning committee meeting and make recommendations concerning the economical manufacturing procedures.
Responsible for the efficiency, safety, design, simplicity and economical operation of NC programs and tools designed to produce piece parts.
