Kettle Operator- Galvanizing
Responsibilities:
Inspect all lifting equipment prior to use (forklifts, cranes, monorails, chains, slings, etc)
Sweep ash from the kettle on a continual basis and store ash in barrels for later use
Inspect all material before galvanizing to ensure material meets all Sabre Safety guidelines and procedures
Ensure all galvanized products meet Sabre quality requirements, minimize downtime, and promote efficiency and uptime
Knowledge of general safety guidelines and Sabre's quality expectations and application in the work place
Safely performs each and every step of the pretreatment process
Maintain safe and efficient kettle temperatures and kettle zinc levels at all times
Add zinc and other alloys to the kettle as necessary in order to maintain proper levels and proper quality of product
Maintains proper housekeeping and kettle maintenance
Dross kettle (remove sludge) on a predetermined schedule according to Sabre guidelines
Runs, maneuvers, navigates or operate heavy equipment or mechanized equipment in kettle area, such as cranes/overhead cranes
Inform Kettle Lead of any quality concerns and/or maintenance problems.
Actively seeks and supports continuous improvement activities in process efficiencies, costs and effectiveness of work
Additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
Experience using cranes highly preferred
Prior experience in a galvanizing manufacturing facility highly preferred
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds on a regular basis
Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials
Must be able to work in an outside manufacturing environment for long shifts, including weekends.
Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual
Must be able to work in an open environment exposed to extreme temperatures
Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
Ability to pay attention to details and multi-task in a fast paced work environment
Good communication skills, including speaking and understanding English
Ability to identify, define and resolve problems
Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED Equivalent preferred
Ability to speak and comprehend English
Must be able to obtain SG Crane/Forklift Certification
Shift:
- Must be able to work days or nights on rotating shifts and every other weekend

These are limited term (LTE) positions. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or have the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
