Nidec Minster Corporation, is currently seeking Machine Tool Builders (Apprentice). Machine Tool Builders work as part of a team, typically 2-4 co-workers, building metal forming, automation and related equipment. Each piece of equipment has unique attributes as they are assembled one at a time. The work environment is skilled trades, there is no high volume or repetitive manufacturing at Minster. Fully trained Machine Tool Builders will work from blue prints, use a variety of measuring instruments while working in close tolerances and a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish the work. Fully trained and competent machine tool builders will have versatile skills and in-depth knowledge of:
Blue Print Reading
Precision Measuring Instruments (mics, calipers, etc.)
Communication skills are critical. Machine Tool Builders interface on a regular basis with mechanical/ electrical engineers, project managers, sales staff and customers while building Minster's "engineered to order" products. Oversee the manufacture of machines and equipment that apply treatments to metals and metal components. These treatments remove defects and can be finished to specific products, for example, artificial aging. The Heat Treat Operator will be working with a variety of metals such as iron and stainless steel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Loading the untreated product in an oven or a tank
Adjusting temperature controls for a particular treatment
Monitoring of the process, and adjusting times and temperatures according to the instructions
Removing the products from the oven and air drying, or air conditioning in water baths, oil or chemicals
Cleaning of oxides and scale of parts or sprinkler use steam-cleaning or chemical cleaning solutions
Sampling for testing hardness and other properties to ensure they meet manufacturer's specifications
Carrying out minor maintenance work
Testing parts for hardness, using hardness testing equipment, and stamps heat treatment identification mark on part, using hammer and punch
Removing parts from furnace after specified time and air dries or cools parts in water or oil brine or other baths
Reducing heat and allows parts to cool in furnace
Positioning part in fixture, pressing buttons to light burners and tending flame hardening machine, according to procedures, to case-harden metal part
Adjusting speed and operating continuous furnace through which parts are passed by means of reels and conveyors
Setting up and operating die-quenching machine to prevent parts from warping
Activating and tending electric furnace that anneals base sections of hardened parts for subsequent machining
Setting automatic controls, observing gauges, and operating gas or electric furnace used to harden temper, or anneal metal parts
Loading parts into containers, closing furnace door, and inserting parts into furnace when specified temperature is reached
Determining flame temperatures, current frequencies, heating cycles, and induction heating coils needed based on degree of hardness required and properties of stock to be treated
Reducing heat when processing is complete in order to allow parts to cool in furnaces or machinery
Moving controls to light gas burners and to adjust gas and water flow and flame temperature
Repairing, replacing, and maintaining furnace equipment as needed, using hand tools
Placing completed work pieces on tables, using cold rods, tongs, or chain hoists, or examining parts to ensure metal shades and colors conform to specifications, utilizing knowledge of metal heat-treating
Heating billets, bars, plates, rods, and other stock to specified temperatures prior to forging, rolling, or processing, using oil, gas, or electrical furnaces
Setting and adjusting speeds of reels and conveyors for prescribed time cycles in order to pass parts through continuous furnaces

Education and Experience:
High School/GED, prior experience working in a manufacturing environment
Lean manufacturing experience is preferred.

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Apply adhesive strip to backup roll and insert backup roll onto automatic splicing unit of press to prepare paper for automatic splicing. Remove roll of leftover paper from press after automatic splicing.
May operate mechanical truck to transport rolls of paper to press area. May assist with some of the make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates, examining plates, prepping and installing blankets, adjusting tension etc. May clean press and clean and install press components to maintain press in working order. Quad is currently seeking a Press Assistant I/Roll Tender to work in the Charlotte, NC Retail Plant. As a member of the press crew, the Press Assistant I (Roll Tender) has previous experience as a Press Asst. II (stacker/jogger) and is able to perform the duties of both positions and may be asked to do so from time to time. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Understanding standard operating procedures of the department
Manage the paper supply inventory on the press and feed rolls into the press
Coordinate plates and tickets for upcoming jobs and hang paper according to job tickets
Set up and make splices, bend and hang plates as well as hang blankets and assist with webbing up press
Ensure correct ink is available for job and check ink fountains regularly
Set fold during make-readies and check trim sheets to proof and complete necessary roll reports and paperwork accurately
Communicate effectively with plate room and paper warehouse and coordinate changing of ink, etch, and silicone totes as needed
Wash up the press and assist with preventative maintenance.
Candidates must have prior press experience as Press Assistant II (Jogger)
Strong mechanical abilities and knowledge of presses and roll stands and the ability to perform basic math calculations are essential.
Good verbal and written comprehension skills are a must.
