Position Purpose

The Knife Workers in our facility is an important role in the daily operations of our Trim Department. This job is important because it is vital to our process to meet customer expectations as it relates to quality. This employee would trim various cuts of meats to specification while complying with all safety procedures

While performing the duties of a knife worker, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or cold conditions with slippery surfaces at varied heights; moving mechanical parts; fast paced, high noise disciple, warm/cool environment. Positions require standing or walking the entire shift, the use of steps, and the use of PPE which is required in all areas of the facility.

Principal Accountabilities

Perform repetitive tasks. Examples include:

• Lock Out Tag Out

• Disassembling and re-assembling equipment

• Testing tools such as knives for effectiveness

• Use knife grinding or sharpening equipment

• Ensuring food safety and quality

• Cleanliness and housekeeping

• Maintaining a safe working environment

Required Qualifications

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

• Must be 18 years or older

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous Cargill Experience

• Previous Experience in working in a meat processing facility

• Previous Experience working with knives

• Work history in the past 12 months

This position is responsible for operating machinery which smooth, buff, polish or sharpen metal object by the wearing away action of abrasives or machine files while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures.

Tasks

Tasks include, but are not limited to, operating equipment to sharpen and grind plates and blades, inspect and evaluate grind plates, access plate inventory to maintain the desired number of sets. Work closely with the immediate supervisor to maintain inventory and quality.

Will assist with set up and start up as directed by supervisor. Will assist in helping others learn how to properly set up formers. Forming, slicing, grinding, mixing, assembling and dismantling equipment, mobile equipment operation, lock out tag out operation, stacking, inspection.

Other tasks in these positions will be to stand, sit, bend, walk, stretch, climb, push, pull, kneel, squat and reach. The team member must be willing and able to lift, carry, push, and pull 20-70 pounds. Candidate must be willing and able to work in the cold (35 to 45 degrees) or damp environments and these areas may have slippery walking surfaces. Candidate must be able to work overtime and weekends.

Requirements
