Job Purpose
To ensure flaker knives are maintained in properly sharpened condition and are available in the appropriate amount for the demand
Key Responsibilities
Consistently demonstrate safety is the highest priority and perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
Maintains cutting quality of of knives by disassembling, cleaning, sharpening, honing and checking knife height and angle for conformity to specifications.
Sets up knives, replaces dull knives in flaker with sharpened knives
Adjusts Distribution Conveyors to ensure that bins fill evenly
Maintains grinder room and green end area in clean safe condition.
Monitors knife inventory
Uses lifting equipment to empty dumpsters.
Monitors and operates flakers as necessary
Removes tramp metal at hog metal detector and resets detector as needed
Perform other duties as necessary
Qualifications

Position Purpose
The Knife Workers in our facility is an important role in the daily operations of our Trim Department. This job is important because it is vital to our process to meet customer expectations as it relates to quality. This employee would trim various cuts of meats to specification while complying with all safety procedures
While performing the duties of a knife worker, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or cold conditions with slippery surfaces at varied heights; moving mechanical parts; fast paced, high noise disciple, warm/cool environment. Positions require standing or walking the entire shift, the use of steps, and the use of PPE which is required in all areas of the facility.

Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
The Knife Skills Trainer and Sr. Knife Skills Trainer are responsible to implement and support an effective hands-on knife skills training program for the knife users at our Hatfield pork processing facility. The Knife Skills Trainers will coach Team Members through the qualification curriculum, which emphasizes the effective knife sharpening skills and efficient trimming / boning techniques that are necessary to ensure Team Members can work safely and be successful in their roles. During the qualification period, the Knife Skills Trainers will evaluate and monitor Trainee performance and regularly communicate progress to the Trainees and their Supervisors. The success of the Knife Skills Trainers will be measured by two KPIs – 90-day retention rate and average qualification time.
RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Lead new hire classroom training for general knife skills, including knife handling, knife sharpening, and proper fitting / use of personal protective equipment
Educate knife users on anatomy of the primals (location of muscle and fat) and the most efficient trimming and boning techniques needed to achieve internal and external product specifications
Communicate the qualification process to new knife users and provide them with weekly goals / targets necessary to qualify for assigned position
Mentor new knife users throughout the qualification process for trimming and boning jobs
Evaluate and document weekly progress reports for Trainees and review with Trainees and their Supervisors until qualification is achieved
Monitor and correct/retrain Team Members exhibiting behaviors that are contrary to training; schedule time for additional help as needed
Document and maintain Team Member training records
Assist with development of training materials, including training manuals and job aids
Assist with identifying gaps in training and developing plans to address the gaps
Use the Anago knife sharpness testing device to ensure knives are adequately sharpened in the knife room and Team Members are using their mouse traps effectively to maintain an edge
Troubleshoot problems with yield due to poor boning / trimming techniques
Assist plant supervision with translating in various situations; translate written company information and documents as needed
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years experience in a knife-work position in the meat production industry (pork preferred)
Must have the ability to train others effectively. Previous experience working as a trainer or training employees is preferred
Must be highly skilled in the use of knives, including sharpening and trimming / boning techniques
Must be Bilingual (English / Spanish) and be able to calmly communicate effectively, both written and verbal and be able to deal with stressful situations and exhibit good judgment; must be willing and ability to translate as needed
Ability to evaluate hourly Team Member performance related to safe, effective knife usage
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment
Must have problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Must exhibit patience and dedication
Basic computer knowledge required (proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
Ability to work 1st and 2nd shifts as needed to train employees working on each shift; must be able to work extended hours and weekends if needed

Position Purpose
General Operator is an important role in the daily operations of our facilities. There are a variety of roles and responsibilities within this title. The General Operator position includes jobs that involve intermediate skill level and can be mastered in a few weeks. General Operator positions work in a cold environment doing a variety of tasks such as handling raw meat, operating computerized labeling and scale systems, operating forklifts, high reach equipment, and pallet jacks, and cutting raw meat using different tools including knives and saws. Job Purpose
To oversee the production of wood wafers by processing logs through Waferizer and Debarker.
Key Responsibilities
Operates equipment controls to regulate speed of logs on conveyor, to cut logs and transfer wafers to set bins
Coordinates process with Dryer Operator and Crane Operator
Assists in changing knives, as needed
Identifies control panel problems and operational problems
Blows down waferizer area to maintain clean equipment
Corrects log jams; unplugs bark from belts
Monitors wafers going to wet bins and removes oversized wafers
Expected to maintain 100% compliance with Environmental, Housekeeping standards, policies for area
Expected to safely and efficiently train other designated individuals in operation of Waferizers
Inspects and conducts routine preventative maintenance on Waferizers, Debarkers, Bark Systems
Carry out Strand Geometry analysis and prepare reports

Job Summary: Knife River is looking for experienced Excavator Operators to work on projects in Northern Idaho. The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
Safety operation of excavator/backhoe/forklift
Handling and/or moving of material
Knowledge of excavator/backhoe loading requirements; load charts; critical picks
Effectively communicate to all site personnel
