Job Description The Department of Mass Communications at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville seeks candidates for a tenure track position in culture and gender studies in media. The candidate should able to teach cultural and gender studies in media, introductory mass communications and society courses, and media writing courses.
Ability to teach media ethics and communications technology is a plus. Additional opportunities exist to teach courses in the candidate’s areas of experience in both the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Mass Communications has an ACEJMC accredited program, and its curriculum provides its majors, minors and graduate students with a comprehensive background in mass communications, plus specific professional preparation in Print and Electronic Journalism, Television-Radio, Corporate and Institutional Media, and Media Advertising.
SIUE, with a student population of more than 14,000, is situated on 2,600 beautiful acres just 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis. Qualifications The successful candidate should possess an earned Ph.D. in Journalism, Mass Communications, Communications, or related discipline. Persons who have not completed all degree requirements by the beginning of the contract period (ABD) may be considered for a one-year term appointment at the rank of instructor until the degree is completed. Preference will be given to an applicant who has expressed interest in cultural studies and media (particularly around issues related to gender) and communication and emerging technologies, and have the potential to conduct scholarly research in these areas.
Terms of Appointment Full-time, tenure track, academic year (nine-month) appointment beginning August 16, 2018.

What You Will Be Doing
