Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, an undergraduate college of The New School invites applications for an Assistant Professor, on a full-time Renewable Term Appointment (RTA) for an initial term of four years in the Culture and Media Department. In this program, students consider media (including print, film, radio, television, and the Internet) from the multiple standpoints of history, politics, technology, sociology, textual analysis, and ethnography.
The program seeks to prepare students for advanced media studies and for careers in the communications industries and media arts. The start date for this position is July 2018. All hiring is subject to the Provost’s budgetary approval.
We seek candidates whose teaching and research complement the work of other faculty in the department (critical media theory, feminist media, digital culture, media archaeology, race and technology, theories and histories of the image, media avant-gardes, etc.). The successful candidate will design undergraduate courses for and about media and culture in the Anthropocene, drawing on any number of disciplinary areas such as media studies, screen studies, cultural studies, science and technology studies, posthumanities, cultural anthropology, cultural theory, critical race theory, postcolonial theory, ecofeminism and/or the environmental humanities. The successful candidate will also have the capacity to teach at least one of the core introductory lecture courses in the department:
Introduction to Media Studies, Introduction to Cultural Studies, and/or Introduction to Screen Studies. The teaching load is five courses per year with the expectation of an advising caseload.
Media Prep Center And Stock Culture Collection Supervisor
This position provides critical support to Departmental laboratory courses through supervising the operations of the Media Prep Center and maintaining the stock culture collection (bacterial, algal, fungal). Supervisory roles include training, scheduling and overseeing work activities of the Media Prep Technician, student workers, and graduate teaching assistants in the introductory microbiology laboratory courses. Additional job duties include ensuring, with the help of the Media Prep Technician, that instructors have the cultures, media, equipment, and supplies available as needed to meet course needs, as well as working with the instructors and Teaching Laboratories Coordinator to implement lab exercises and maintaining the operational condition of equipment.
Required Education: Associate Degree or equivalent combination of education/job related experience, AND:

Education and Experience
- 2-year degree from an accredited university in Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration or related major and 4 years experience in the sales, marketing, digital or related professional area; hospitality marketing or digital advertising experience preferred
- 4-year bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or related major; 2 years experience in the sales, marketing, digital or related professional area; hospitality marketing or digital advertising agency experience preferred.

Hotel Marketing and Advertising
Executes annual marketing plan to budget, in consultation with the GM, Food and Beverage leader, Operations leaders, Director of Marketing Communications, and cluster marketing and ecommerce teams.
Partners with Operations, Food & Beverage and Sales teams to execute promotions and campaigns to target in-house guests with promotions that drive incremental revenue to the hotel.
Acts as the liaison between the marketing department and advertising agency on the tactical advertising campaigns' creative and media plans, particularly for food and beverage promotions.
Manages F&B media schedules and verifies prompt settlement of accounts.
Partners with property Revenue Management to verify correct offer loading, verifying advertisement targeting is correctly directed at relevant consumer groups
Executes email marketing, and display advertising.
Maintains frequent, active engagement with other departments to verify alignment, pull-through, and 2-way communication about the status, performance evaluation, opportunities, and issues related to online programs and initiatives.
Verifies all advertising for the hotel in digital channels is in alignment with brand voice.
Direct Marketing and Collateral Development
Coordinates and executes Hotel and F&B printed materials.
Controls quantity and inventory of all Hotel marketing collateral and verifies copies are filed in a comprehensive manner.
Assists in the production of all property, F&B display, and temporary signage in hotel public areas.
Promotes collection of competitors collateral and publicity on a monthly basis.
Manages the execution of F&B direct marketing activities.
Verifies all collateral is as per brand standard guidelines and in compliance with Brand Standard Audit (BSA).
Manages the development, co-ordination and execution of all communications activities with a strong emphasis on property F&B promotions and campaigns.
Helps with the publication of hotel's newsletter(s).
Supports communications duties and functions as deemed necessary.
Liase and execute joint F&B promotions.
Partners with Director of Marketing to create marketing plan aligned to hotel sales and revenue strategy.
Provides training and marketing leadership and act as a marketing subject matter expert for GMs, Sales Leaders and Managers, and Revenue leaders.
Coordinates with property and above property eCommerce and Revenue Management teams to report success of property marketing and eCommerce performance.

Visiting Assistant Professor Or Instructor Of Japanese Language And Culture
The East Asian Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a one-year, full-time non-continuing faculty position in Japanese Language and Culture. Appointment to this position will begin in the fall semester of the academic year 2018-2019, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor.
Oberlin's Japanese language curriculum, offering five levels of Japanese, is lodged within the East Asian Studies Program, which includes Japanese, Chinese, and Korean Studies, and the disciplines of Anthropology, Art History, Cinema Studies, Religion, History, Environmental Studies, and Politics. Related courses in Ethnomusicology are also offered.
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses, including at least three in Japanese language. Two other courses, to be taught in English, will be in Japanese Studies in collaboration with the East Asian Studies Program.
Requirements include demonstrated excellence in teaching Japanese at all levels, commitment to teaching elementary Japanese, and evidence of strong scholarship and background in Japanese Studies in such fields as linguistics, film, literature, gender studies or other humanities and social science disciplines.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by the first semester of the academic year 2018-2019). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is required. Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and in English is also required.
