What you'll do:
- Work outside 5-6 days per week in all weather conditions completing landscape duties such as: clean-ups, leaf and debris removal, brush removal, weed pulling, trimming, pruning, string trimming, edging, mulching, planting and transplanting flowers, shrubs and trees, raking, blowing.
Skills we're seeking:
Ability to do physical work in all climates for 8-10 hours per day and lift 50 lbs
Ability to work in a team of 3 or more
Must be able to work everyday 5 days per week
Must be at least 18 years old
Landscape work experience preferred, BUT not required
Willingness and the ability to do physical work

Grand Canyon University's Landscaping department is currently seeking a Landscaper. Under specific direction from the supervisor, crew lead or manager, the Landscaper has ongoing responsibility to the overall care, maintenance and beautification of the University grounds and campus(es) including lawns, paved areas, sports areas and fields, parking areas, planters, plants vegetation and trees, and keeping areas free from litter; and may participate in ground construction activities.
This position pays $12 hourly. The schedule for the position is Tuesday through Saturday from 5:00am to 1:00pm.
Performs seasonal grounds duties as directed.
Operates mowing, portable blowers/vacuums, edgers and trimming equipment with related implements, chain saws, brushing saws, chipper and numerous hand tools.
Maintains high standards of beautification and cleanliness and inspects grounds for needed maintenance and picks up and disposes of any accumulated debris, removes and repairs graffiti, ensures seating areas and public gathering spots are in good condition, cleans drains, gutters and troughs, etc.
Plants, trims and prunes shrubs, bushes, hedges, trees, ground cover, cacti, flowers, turf, etc.; may water trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns and perform irrigation activities.
Assists in the maintenance of parking lots and other surfaces, including asphalt repairs and minor masonry or plastering work as required.
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma preferred or equivalent.
Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Previous commercial grounds maintenance/landscaping experience.
Knowledgeable in the proper operation of equipment, tools, and procedures of grounds construction and care.
Knowledge of fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides used in grounds care and gardening.

Position Description & Job Responsibilities
Implements plans to create and maintain landscape material throughout the resort. Initiates purchase order processes, and installs plants materials. This includes new and existing beds and annual flower rotations.
Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, landscaping, and sod. Mulch and edge beds. Prepares beds for planting of materials. Pulls weeds. Uses hose to water plantings.
Applies chemicals and fertilizers to resort properties in safe manner. Waters in chemicals or fertilizers after application. Calibrates application equipment. Uses hand spreaders, push spreaders, hand sprayer, riding sprayer.
Maintains a safe working environment for self and co-workers. Monitors safety of maintenance areas for guest safety.
Uses walking and riding mowers, carts, push mowers, and a variety of powered and non-powered hand tools to maintain grounds and landscaping. Cleans and maintains equipment that is used. Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Installs, cleans, and repairs drainage.
Reports problems encountered on site to supervisor immediately. Takes appropriate steps to address emergency situations.
Formal Education and Job Related Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two years' experience in Grounds Maintenance and/or Landscaping preferred.
Experienced with the safe and modern application of chemicals and fertilizers.
Ability to communicate in written and oral forms.
Ability to work independently and in team setting.

- Care for lawns and plants using a variety of tools, including rakes, saws, shovels, trimmers, axes and pruning saws, to ensure they remain aesthetically pleasing.
- Mow the grass using edgers and mowers, keeping it at an optimal height.
- Keep plants and flowers healthy by pruning and trimming trees and shrubs and weeding, mulching and aerating.
- Plant new grass and foliage following planned designs to create the yard as prescribed by the client and/or landscape designer.
- Fertilize the lawns and plants and apply any herbicides or pesticides to keep the foliage healthy and thriving.
- Monitor the sprinkler system to ensure it regularly waters the lawns and reset it as necessary, as well as water by hand when needed to maintain the health of the plants.
- Keep flower beds and garden areas clean by picking up any dead branches and flowers as well as trimming or picking the plants as needed.
- Assist in placing decorative rocks, stones, statues and other items around the lawn to facilitate the completion of the overall aesthetic look.
- 1+ years of experience as a landscaper, groundskeeper or similar occupation

Perform a variety of landscaping tasks that include but are not limited to mowing, weeding, edging lawns, trimming bushes, use of leaf blower and weed whacker
Perfrom a variety of maintenance/minor repair activities on the interior/exterior areas of the property including, but not limited to, painting, patching to include parking lot and sidewalks, clearsdrain stoppages, interior and exterior lighting including lamp replacement
Be trained , then operate a variety of equipment to perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs and maintain cleanliness of property
Assist other departments, including but not limited to, Marketing to setup events and Local Leasing with placement and repair of carts
Perform the job in accordance with all applicable standards, policies and regulatory guidelines (i.e. OSHA standards) to promote a safe working environment
