PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Safety Coordinator is proactively involved in partnering with functional leadership to provide guidance, process consistency, and direction on all safety activities across W. A. Chester's Business Units. This position is directly responsible for the Environmental, Health, and Safety in the field. In addition, to overseeing and managing Safety related functions this position will also be actively involved in organization wide safety initiatives as a subject matter resource and advisor.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Provide problem solving, analysis, training, coaching, and leadership to employees related to safety & ergonomic improvements.
Conduct incident investigations of safety & health incidents and near misses.
Lead in developing action plans and conducting follow-up audits to address relevant Safety issues and adherence to applicable policies and procedures, including improvement.
Partner with all functional area management to develop, interpret, and monitor fair and consistent application of corporate and BU policies, processes, and procedures
Coach and mentor employees and management in solving problems that impact the safety of the workplace.
Conduct job-sites and vehicles safety inspections.
Review daily, weekly, monthly, and annual safety and environmental reports, as required
Ensure Safety Data Sheets (SDS) is current and accessible
Assist in facilitating, scheduling, and coordinating safety training sessions.
Drive safety initiatives/programs developed as action items.
Participate in team setting to identify root cause analysis of environmental and safety concerns.
Participate in the monthly safety committee meeting.
Assist with Workers Compensation when necessary.
Coordinate the ordering, issuing, and storing PPE.
Assist in managing special equipment such as; Gas monitors, FR Harnesses and Lanyards etc.
Work in an honest and ethical manner, maintaining confidentiality on all business related matters.
Provide safety training to project teams as required.
Coach project teams in effective hazard identification and correction of issues.
EDUCATION AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 5 years of safety experience in the Construction Industry.
Related safety certifications (OSHA 30 Construction/ First Aid CPR / OSHA 500/ OSHA 510)
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Project software.
Must be willing to travel occasionally.
Clean Motor Vehicle record in the past 5 years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Working knowledge of construction safety principles, techniques and methods
Practical knowledge of OSHA laws, regulations and policies
Capable of identifying known potential exposures and recommending corrective action
Computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite
Management, leadership and interpersonal skills
Excellent written, verbal and communication skills.
Solid working knowledge of hazard assessments.
Solid working knowledge of incident investigation processes and requirements.
Knowledge and understanding of NFPA 70E.
Ability to organize, classify and structure multiple pieces of information accurately.
Solid judgment and decision-making aptitude in weighing relative cost and benefits of business actions.
Ability to “Critically Think" utilizing logic and analysis to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different business approaches.
Excellent organizational and follow-up skills; competent in problem solving, team building, and planning and shows aggressiveness when completing assignments and other responsibilities.
