We are looking for a dynamic and compassionate Case Worker to provide a full array of case management, counseling, advocacy, and self-sufficiency services to domestic violence (DV) survivors and their children who reside at Poetry House, a 20-bed emergency DV shelter in Brooklyn. The Case Worker also collaborates with on-site GSS staff to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the residence and ensure a trauma-focused, youth and family development approach is implemented amongst staff and participants. REPORTS TO:
PROGRAM COORDINATOR, Safe Homes Project/Poetry House Shelter LOCATION: 503 5th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11215 HOURS: 35 Hours/Week; Non-exempt MAJOR DUTIES: • Provide in-person crisis intervention, case management services, counseling, housing advocacy, and self-sufficiency related support and referrals for 10 domestic abuse survivors and their children. • Participate in weekly supervision, case conferences, trauma-informed practice training, and other relevant trainings in order to offer high quality services to participants. • Develop and implement varied trainings, workshops, activities, and special events for shelter residents to support their continued safety, self-sufficiency, and well-being. • Co-facilitate 12-week Parenting Journey group for survivors with SHP staff at any of the program locations. • Participate in staff and resident house meetings in order to enhance and encourage the development of community within the residence. • Utilize required agency and funder databases to record statistical and narrative case-related documentation. • Collaborate withother GSS shelter staff to ensure that there is a safe, clean, welcoming, home-like environment in place for residents at all times. • Receive visitors and deliveries, ensuring the safety of residents as the primary objective in accomplishing day-to-day operations. • Perform other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or similar, relevant field required; Master’s degree preferred. • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred. • Counseling and case management experience required; experience in residential settings preferred. • Knowledge of domestic violence, NYC housing issues, and self-sufficiency work a plus. • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team, and work under pressure. • Willingness to travel throughout the week and engage participants in varied settings. • Must be available to work at least one evening per week until 8 PM or as needed. • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, youth and family development perspective.
