Nature of Work
Monitor activities and ensure the safety of patrons at aquatic facilities.
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, shift work and working extended hours to meet work requirements, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.
Position performs twenty (20) percent inside and eighty (80) percent outside in pool facilities with exposure to all types of weather conditions. Frequent exposure to sun, heat, noise, chemical and mechanical hazards, dust, and pollen. Occasional exposure to electrical hazards, fumes, odors, gases and poor ventilation. Moderately physical work with frequent climbing, crouching and pushing/pulling up to thirty (30) pounds for a distance of thirty (30) meters twice a day. Lifting up to fifty (50) pounds from floor level and carrying thirty (30) feet three (3) times a day. Ability to lift arms above shoulder level. Sufficient clarity of speech, hearing, or other communication capabilities, vision or other powers of observation, manual dexterity, and personal mobility and physical reflexes sufficient to effectively and efficiently perform essential job functions.

Duties and Responsibilities
Patrols and monitors aquatic areas, facilities, and the activities of participants to prevent accidents; communicates and enforces rules and regulations regarding unsafe actions, areas, and state health codes to promote safety of all participants.
Responds to emergency situations to rescue patrons in physical distress, administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as required and necessary.
Prepares lesson plans, organizes, and conducts beginning and advanced level swim classes for individuals of all ages in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations in areas such as lifesaving, swimming, and diving to meet established goals regarding aquatic and recreational programming.
Conducts and distributes survey material on related programs to participants to assess program satisfaction.
Prepares and presents various special and recurring reports, forms, and logs to provide consistent, accurate, and timely information to appropriate staff.
Makes recommendations in program placement and participates in special events to facilitate participant engagement and effective use of available resources.
Oversees and monitors the maintenance, condition, and safety of facilities and equipment to ensure proper operations and report issues of concern to appropriate staff.
Ensures necessary supplies and equipment are available and in proper condition for use.
No specific educational requirement. Swimming proficiency is required and must be demonstrated. Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age at the time of hire for temporary positions; first consideration will be given to those that are eighteen (18) years of age or older. (Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age to be hired for full-time, or part-time, regular positions in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.)
A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy. Classes in basic chemistry, and water safety instructor training may be preferred.
Lifeguard training, Standard First Aid, and CPR certification must be obtained within two (2) weeks of hire date.

This is a Lifeguard position that is responsible to supervise the public's safety at the Pine Island Community Pool.
Duties and Responsibilities
This Lifeguard position is also responsible to teach various aquatic programs, clean and maintain the pool and ensure the facility complies with all health and safety standards as governed by the state and local codes.
This position will assist the Program Supervisor in daily operations that include monitoring and tracking daily revenue, completing all safety inspections, reports and accident reports, inputting and tracking various classes and daily users.
Assist with special events as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Requires any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and six months experience as a lifeguard.
Must have current Lifeguard training, First Aid and CPR.
Must obtain Water Safety Instructor Certification and a Certified Pool Operator License within 6 months of hire or employment will end.
Possession of a valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record is required.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Customer service skills to deal with the public in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
Ability to sufficiently swim to effect a safe rescue of persons in distress.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and work outside during all seasons.
Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, prepare and maintain reports.

Lifeguard - Ambler Campus Pool
Temple University, Ambler Campus is in need of Lifeguards for the upcoming pool season. The pool will open the first week of June and will close by the end of September. We are looking for a Lifeguard with prior pool experience and the ability to work flexible shifts throughout the summer. The ideal candidate will have excellent skills in the water and as well as Red Cross lifeguard and CPR certification.
Open the pool each day and close it down each evening, depending on schedule and hours

The Lifeguard oversees the aquatic complex, ensuring the safety of members and guests in the swimming area. This position reports to the Wellness Director.
Ensure the "Trilogy Experience" for members and guests by modeling and maintaining the standards set in the Trilogy 10 and adhering to BlueStar Resort & Golf (BSRG) and facility policies.
Help ensure the pool area is only accessed by members and guests, and is safe and secure at all times.
Monitor activities in the pool and surrounding area to maintain order and prevent accidents.
Report any unsafe or inappropriate situations to a supervisor.
Inspect facilities for cleanliness; complete general pool cleaning and maintenance duties.
Assure emergency equipment (rescue tubes, backboard, signs, and other equipment) is in working order and available at all times.
Caution swimmers regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards; enforce pool rules and regulations.
Administer first aid.
Rescue swimmers in distress or in danger of drowning, following the Club's emergency action plan and established procedures.
Perform lifesaving procedures, like CPR, when necessary.
Test the chlorine content and pH value of water, using the water testing kit; record daily readings.
Complete required paperwork.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
One to three months' of related customer service preferred.
Must have current lifeguard training and be a skilled swimmer.
Current First Aid, CPR/AED certification, and other safety certifications, as required by the Club.
Aqua group fitness certification a plus.
Knowledge of swimming pool sanitation and chlorination systems, and pool equipment and maintenance.
Knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedures; ability to perform rescue actions and administer first aid.

This position is performed in the pool area, with exposure to weather conditions and occasionally native wildlife. There may be exposure to chemicals and fumes. The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate, but often noisy, with crowds of people in the pool.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see and hear, speak clearly and give directions which can be heard over noise from people and play in the pool. This position requires being alert and focused while sitting for most of a work shift, standing and walking, bending, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms. The position requires strength and the ability to lift and/or push or pull items weighing up to 50-100 pounds. Dependable vision is critical to this position, including close and distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for preventing accidents, rescuing swimmers in danger of drowning, and providing swim test evaluation.
Will assist in maintenance of pool and facility. Work the Admission and Concession counters. Collect admission fees, make change, stock shelves, and answer telephones.
Perform other duties as required. As a position directly affecting the safety of others, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of City of Enid's substance abuse policy, including random drug and alcohol testing.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires valid Lifeguard Training and CPR certificates.
Previous life guarding experience preferred. Must be 16 years old to obtain valid Lifeguard Training Certificate.

Monitor the pools to ensure a safe environment is created for residents using the facilities.
The pool will be open 7 days a week from 12PM – 8PM daily.
A daily inspection will be made of the pool to check and clean the facilities.
A general cleaning will be performed in the mornings prior to opening and in the evening after closing the water to swimmers. Vacuum and brush walls of the pool and clean waterline tiles prior to daily opening of the facility.
Clean the area inside pool and enclosure to include wash down of the deck and all pool furniture if needed.
Clean / maintain filter room as needed.
Lifeguards will pick up and restock restrooms at times when it does not interfere with primary responsibilities.
All testing of the water chemistry in accordance with the NJ Bather code and record all readings in the site log book. Organize the pool furniture throughout the day when the pool is not in use and at closing to ensure that the pool area maintains an orderly appearance.
Lower umbrellas at closing and remove umbrellas and store in the filter room or guard house as required by weather conditions.
Secure hoses and pool equipment.
Clean skimmer baskets, pool pump filter baskets andbackwash filters as needed.
Provide courteous, reasonable and mature enforcement of written pool rules.
Maintain a daily count of residents and guests who use the swimming facilities and record as part of the daily log.
