Electric Distribution Line Worker Apprentice - Line School Graduates
Job Description:Summary:
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Individual will learn to perform work involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric distribution system.
Individuals must be able to perform work assignments at the apprentice line worker level including distribution transmission work; work emergency and overtime when the need exists; candidate must demonstrate safety working practices; have the mechanical ability to use hand/power tools, and equipment pertinent to line construction and maintenance; and have the ability to climb and work on poles, ladders, and other elevated structures.
The line worker apprentice is an entry level position where an individual will learn to perform work involved in the construction, operation, and maintenance of the electric system. He or she will be acquiring the necessary knowledge and experience required to progress through the established line worker steps.
The successful candidate/s will be required to successfully complete a Company administered overhead line worker school. Initial training will be based out of Berlin, CT. for CT openings and Eastern MA for MA openings.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or the equivalent plus be a successful line school graduate, and the ability to climb poles skillfully with Lineman's climbers are required. Individual must be qualified to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Candidates must successfully pass the Construction and Skilled Trades Test (CAST) Test and the agility assessment. Position will likely involve shift and weekend hours and on call assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Education or equivalent, plus be a successful line school graduate; preferred candidates must hold a CDL.
Experience:
Successful completion of line school.
Must have demonstrated ability in overhead electric systems as evidenced by successfully passing knowledge based exam and physical prescreening.
Must pass EEI testing (CAST test) and successful completion of a technical and behavioral interview.
Must have a work history that demonstrates safe work habits.
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid License to Operate Motor Vehicles
Valid CDL Driver's License preferred
Working Conditions:
Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and at times for extended periods.
Ability to move frequently to unload equipment and to install/maintain/repair equipment.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Ability to push/pull weights up to 75 pounds.
Ability to climb or use authorized equipment to reach various heights.
Ability to frequently and repetitively bend/stoop/squat.
Ability to differentiate between colors (color vision).
Manual dexterity to operate small hand tools, turn small knobs, etc.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to gain knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools in line construction and maintenance work.
Ability to gain knowledge of the principles of electric theory as applied to electrical circuits and wire systems.
Ability to gain knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and of adequate and necessary safety precautions.
Ability to gain knowledge of light construction and maintenance equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to regularly use written and oral communication skills
Ability to read and interpret data, information and documents
Ability to analyze and solve problems
Ability to observe and interpret situations
Ability learn and apply new information or new skills
Ability to work under deadlines with constant interruptions

JOB SUMMARY
The Apprentice Line Tech position is responsible for assisting in the daily construction and maintenance of Gulf Power Company's distribution and transmission systems in order to provide service in a safe, timely and economical manner. This position is responsible for responding to and correcting problems with the electrical distribution system during normal working hours, after hours, nights and weekends and in extreme weather conditions.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Persons employed as an Apprentice-Line Tech must be successful on the EEI Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) Test, and the Post Offer Employment (POET). Must be able to work at tall heights, climb tall structures, read blueprints, lift, carry and pull heavy objects, use hand tools, work in extreme weather conditions and work in enclosed, dark areas. Training or experience in electrical or electronics preferred.
Must have an excellent driving record and be considered a safe driver. Must have the ability to assess through the Earned Progression Program to Line Technician I, and Line Technician II / Service Technician classifications. Must maintain weight below 280 pounds. Must have or be able to obtain a CDL Class A within six months.
Must model core values of safety first, unquestionable trust, superior performance, and total commitment.
Availability for and timely response to call-outs are required. A successful applicant must live within a reasonable call-out distance from the reporting office or relocate so that they do. Relocation assistance is not available for these positions.

What you will be doing
Perform work of a Line Specialist Apprentice in maintaining safe and adequate services to our customers
Under direct supervision and on a training basis, assist employees of higher line classifications engaged in, and performing basic operations required in the installing, removing and maintaining of transmission and distribution poles, towers, conductors, transformers, pole top switches, cable and other line equipment, devices and appurtenances, and services
Assist with installation of street lighting equipment and certain phases of work on metering installations
Assist in the patrolling of lines and perform other related work
Operate line truck, digging equipment, small equipment and power tools
Required to climb poles and steel structures at heights of fifty feet (50) or greater to perform maintenance, removal and installation of poles, transformers, line conductors, etc.
Specialists must present a neat appearance and work with both internal and external customers in a courteous and efficient manner
Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices, the ability to work within a team, and good communication skills

Candidates must possess a High school diploma or equivalent
Basic math skills, written and verbal communication skills, basic mechanical knowledge as well as the ability to use tools and equipment
Applicant must be capable of physically and mentally working in/on electric facilities
Must be able to learn safety rules associated with job duties and follow same
Candidate must possess a valid driver's license and a CDL or be willing to obtain one within 60 days of hire
Job responsibilities include serving on a 24-hour emergency watch periodically
Must be located within 15 driving miles of the reporting headquarter
Required to be available to work overtime

Case Erector Operator Summary:
The Case Erector Operator position is responsible for ensuring that all corrugated containers printed or un-printed comply with the current package coding requirements. Produce erected containers in the correct quantities and correct package coding when required, while meeting and exceeding all safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Daily Tasks & Functions:
Communicate and understand Production schedule.
Perform all required changeovers within the proper time frame.
Perform visual inspection of all corrugated containers ensure proper case coding and package integrity.
Know and understand all product package requirements.
Filter out all non-conforming containers as it relates to case coding, legibility of print and package integrity.
Maintain and accurate count of all complete cartons produced.
Communicate quality issues/concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Manually erect corrugated containers when required.
Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
Complete all documentations as required.
Able to meet daily production standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Mechanically inclined and adhere to LOTO procedures.
Able to perform minor equipment repairs and perform operator PM tasks.
Inspect corrugate and ensure printing on boxes are clear and defined.
Ability to understand and pass LOTO training annually.
Desired Skills or Qualifications:
Able to lift 40+ lbs.
Stand for the duration of the shift (10 hours or more)
Ability to bend continuously throughout the shift
