Power Line Worker II - Exam
Under general supervision, is responsible for installing, repairing and replacing components of the overhead power line distribution system; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Installs, repairs, maintains and removes overhead electric power lines, street lighting, and other electrical components;
Climbs poles or operates and works in bucket attached to truck-mounted boom to perform work;
Secures new wires to crossarm insulators and splices wire to adjoining sections of line to complete circuit;
Patrols power lines, looking for potential trouble spots;
Installs and connects electric service drops;
Installs, repairs, and removes poles;
Requisitions electrical components from storeroom; maintains records in computerized work order tracking system;
Drives, operates and performs preventative maintenance (including fuel and lubricants) on vehicles and equipment used in power line work; cleans vehicles and equipment;
Follows appropriate safety procedures;
Instructs employees in the methods, safety, and type of equipment used for power line work;
Cleans up after work has been completed.
Two (2) years of experience as a Power Line Worker I with the City of Columbus or comparable experience. Substitution(s): Successful completion of a formal training program in power distribution may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience.
Possession of a valid Class A commercial motor vehicle operator's license allowing operation of vehicles with air brakes.

The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 30% covering Electricity Practices and Principles, Safety, and Information Ordering; and a performance exam weighted 70% covering Bucket Truck Set-up, Pole Climbing, Power Line Work, and Safety.
The exam is expected to be administered in early May 2018. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.
All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score.
The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test. For any position within the Division of Police, the hiring process will also include the completion of an extensive personal history questionnaire and a polygraph examination.

Inspect materials, products and containers at each step of packaging process.
Record production and review records and specification
Maintain area in accordance with AIB, BRC and Haccp standards
Follow safety policies and standard work procedures

Weekly Rate: $436.00 - $1668.50
Our Verizon Wireline technicians will be working in teams of two or more to perform work associated with installation, removal and rearranging outside plant facilities. You will have the opportunity to connect wires and cables to terminals and attach or detach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables and poles. While driving a Company vehicle to and from each work location, you will perform important work that contributes to connecting our millions of customers on the best network. This opportunity is a temporary assignment addressing a specific project lasting up to 30 months and includes benefits.
Dismantle, move or remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable, associated equipment, poles and hardware related to the outside telephone plant.
Perform construction work, such as digging holes, placing and removing poles, laying cable, unreeling, pulling and stringing wire and cable from pole to pole.
Climb poles and ladders, to remove and rearrange equipment.
Work in remote and rough terrain locations.
Operate power equipment such as winches, chain saws, and hydraulic equipment such as aerial lifts (buckets), diggers-derricks mounted on trucks, hand tools, etc.
Load tools and equipment onto trucks and/or trailers.
Read and interpret engineering plans.
Keep reports and records and perform other duties as may be assigned.
Work outside and may be exposed to all weather conditions as well as dirt, grease and wood preservatives, poison ivy, oak, bee stings, etc.
