Northrop Grumman Marines Systems specializes in the development of; manufacturing, assembly and testing of missile launching and handling systems, and propulsion power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate selected will assume the responsibility of supervising Fabrication and Weld, and Heat Treat areas within the Marine Manufacturing Department. This is a three shift facility and the candidate selected may be required to work any shift.
This position will supervise approximately 13-15 hourly employees to meet contract delivery requirements. This responsibility entails the following:
Supervise shop personnel to ensure compliance with shop instructions, i.e. drawings, programs, tooling, manufacturing methods and QA documents with emphasis on weld procedures and processes. The fundamental understanding of lean principals are required to lead, guide, and direct the efforts of the team with the highest regard to safety and budget goals. Responsible for meeting production schedules through the minimum utilization of manpower, components and equipment. Provide job training, crewing recommendations and schedule overtime as needed.
Maintain control of company policies, safety regulations, housekeeping and operating standards.
Review job procedures and employee performance by constant evaluation of production levels to maintain expected level of performance. Ensure operators are trained and certified before they are allowed to operate equipment.
Prepare reports and/or complete special projects as requested by manager by compiling data to maintain a productive flow of communication.
Administer open communication with associates on personnel related concerns to produce a quality product in a safe, cost-efficient manner.
Assists manufacturing engineering with analysis, recommendations and coordination of efforts to assure compliance to engineering print tolerances, method improvement, cost reductions and new product introductions.
Maintain close liaison with quality engineering to insure quality products and assists in quality improvement programs. Review quality inspection and performance with subordinates initiating corrective action as required. Lead quality containment projects as needed.
Participate and/or lead lean initiatives to improve manufacturing efficiencies.
Associate Degree, technical diploma or equivalent experience with emphasis on industrial, mechanical or manufacturing desired.
Basic computer skills with the ability to understand/learn new programs.
Prior experience managing people in a machining or manufacturing environment is preferred.
Some practical experience in assembly and small engines is preferred, but not required.

The Machining Manager will develop frame procedures in coordination with company standards and objectives. This person will oversee and assure the set up and operation of the welding fabrication, Deburr and assembling areas and all standard equipment, as well as, general experimental machinery, recommending design changes in equipment, material and/or procedures as needed. The Machining Manager will also be in responsible for the following:
Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:
Manages the designs and implementations of welding fixtures.
Establishes Manufacturing Process Instructions, as well as, Welding Process Instructions for manual and robotic welding.
Prioritizes and maintain work schedules based on production deadlines and ensure deadlines are met.
Periodically checks frame operations to ensure operations are working to tolerance.
Manages the reporting system that reflects schedules, performance, and procedures.
Manages, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
Manages the weld team to develop the most efficient processes and tooling to manufacture products.
Manages technical New Product Introduction process from start to successful implementation.
Analyzes a product model and/or drawing and; come up with the most efficient way of manufacture understand what it would take to weld (time, equipment, labor etc.) and be able to put together a quote.
Partnerships continuously with the engineering team to suggest design improvements for manufacturability.
Leads, motivates and problem-solve results oriented and drive and motivate the manufacturing team to meet/beat safety, quality, delivery and productivity goals.
Manages personnel in charge of operating machines that perform a variety of processing operations.
Manages assembly operations such as filing, aligning, fitting, and scraping of parts to ensure established requirements and standards are met.
Manages day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department.
Education and Experience:
Minimum 7 years of relevant manufacturing machining experience.
BS degree preferred.
Prior experience in a frame and Weld shop environment essential
Excellent communication skills to develop and maintain proactive customer interaction
Strong verbal and written skills
Strong attention to detail skills
Experienced user of PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Project tools.
Qualified candidate must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder
Strong leadership experience in semicon, defense & aerospace, flat panel or solar industry manufacturing.
Experience with working with major OEM's in these fields is required.
Prior working experience with ISO, SSQA, AS9100 quality systems beneficial
Possess an understanding, preferably experience, in the lean manufacturing philosophy.
