Q4 is seeking a Machinist Apprentice to gather materials, cut / prepare materials for fabrication, clean production areas and assist as needed throughout the production area. The ideal candidate will be reliable, with prior experience cutting wood, plastic or metal.
Prepare materials for fabrication by cutting and trimming;
Review drawings and lists and gather materials as required;
Shift materials from work areas as necessary;
Assist in all areas of production as requested;
Clean up material & prep for welding, remove weld splatter and sharp edges/burs on completed product
Organize, collect & stage material within the shop for recycling.
2 years prior related experience, especially experience with material cutting (steel, aluminum, composites) or carpentry skills
General knowledge of hand tools and most power tools, including grinders, sanders, drill press, portable drills, mag drills, saws, hydraulic presses, rivet tools, forklifts, cutters, torches and welders. Ability to read a tape measure to the nearest 1/16 or millimeter.
Previous welding experience is a plus.
Reading and understanding manufacturing drawings required.
Driver's License with a clean driving record required.

Apprentice entry level position responsible to learn how to set up and operate conventional, special purpose, numerical control (NC) machines, manual lathes, millers, grinders, drill presses and band saws to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work under the general direction of the department supervisor with a minimum of supervision.
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications using various measurement tools, including micrometers, caliper, and comparator.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.
Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
Reports defective material, any unusual condition or circumstance immediately to supervisor.
Maintains personal productive and quality standards as determined by company.
Follows standard practices and procedures as outlined by company policy.
Obeys all safety regulations.
Maintains area in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs all other duties as directed or required.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Machinist Apprenticeship Program
Candidates will be required to complete an 8000-hour training program focused on achieving a Journeyman Machinist card including NIMS credentialing for machining Level I &II. This candidate will be required to learn/operate milling machines (manual and CNC), lathes (manual and CNC), grinding, CMMs, heat treating, basic engineering, basic electrical/electronics, quality assurance, welding, paint, and assembly & customer service operations associated with the Hydromat machines.
High school diploma or equivalent, and basic machining knowledge or NIMS level I credentials required. Technical associates degree highly preferred.

Youth Machinist Apprentice
Under direct supervision, assists with loading and unloading operation and set-up activities of a Computer Numeric Controlled (CNC) machine(s). Supports with machine housekeeping activities and inspections.
Will learn how to read CNC programs, make necessary offsets, work its routine and machine parts to ordinary tolerances.
Will obtain basic knowledge of various metals and of measurements used in machining processes.
Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and the division of numbers including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, use of adjustable measuring instruments; checking of forms, records and comparable data; where interpretation is required involving basic skills knowledge.
Use of some judgment to comply with instructions, prescribed routines, methods and/or practices or to respond to preset computer menu choices or preprogrammed computer commands involving the making of minor decisions.

We are looking for a clean, organized, and professional Automotive Machinist to perform the following:
Typical 5 day X 8 hour per day work week but overtime is sometimes required
CNC and/or welding experience a plus

- Includes written and verbal instruction for the tooling or die in question.
- Takes into consideration the type of material, tolerances, choice of cutting tools, lubricants/coolants and machine tool feeds and speeds and electrodes.
- Uses Master Cam and machine conversational programs.
- Writes the programs and produces tooling.
- Uses Master Cam to draw the form needed to produce the part.
- Codes the part for use in the CNC machines and manufactures the part.
- May be required to measure and copy parts.
- Includes inserts, end mills, drills, electrode material and EDM wire used for the CNC equipment.
- Returns unused materials or supplies to the correct location.
- Communicates issues to Team Leader to ensure that organizational goals and objectives are met.
- Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies.
