Requirements An Outside Machinist performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals. Also tests marine engines and equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments, repairs and maintains hydraulic equipment and valves, operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
Dismantles, repairs, or replaces defective parts, and reassembles machinery, using machinist's tools, chain hoists, and steel rollers
Installs ship machinery, such as propelling machinery and steering gear, working from blueprints and using hand tools, calipers, and micrometers
Installs below-deck auxiliary equipment, such as evaporators, stills, heaters, pumps, condensers, and boilers, and connects them to steampipe systems
Operates machinery, such as cargo winches and windlasses, to determine causes of malfunctioning
Lays out passage holes on bulkheads, decks, and other surfaces for connections, such as shafting and steam lines
Fabricates replacement parts, using machine shop tools, such as lathe, boring mill, planer, shaper, slotter, and milling machine

Responsible for carrying out the daily duties of a Marine Mechanic, including but not limited to: General Service and repair of outboard engines. Troubleshooting and engine rebuilds. New engine prep and repowers. Repairing and installing electronic equipment. Rigging and boat building. Repairing and overhauling boats, machinery, trailers, etc. Quality control on service jobs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Perform related duties assigned or as the situation dictates
-Perform all preventative maintenance (i.e. oil changes, break in services, annual services, lower end services, cable replacements, etc.)
-Perform custom boat rigging and installs
-Perform Repowers on boat packages to include planning and setup, cutting fiberglass, installing gauges and electronics, running wiring and cables, through bolting engine, and on water prop testing
-Diagnose and trouble shoot dealership and customer units and report extent of damage or malfunction to the service advisor
-Perform repair work (i.e. remove engine; inspect parts for issues; overhaul or replace carburetors, starters, pumps, electrical and fuel systems; rebuild parts such as engine blocks; rewire ignition system, lights, and instrument panels; repair options and accessories such as VHF radios, GPS and radar, stereo system, etc.)
-Complete repair work within the established time frame
-Ensure all warranty work is completed according to manufacturer and company guidelines
-Maintain company tools in good condition and according to guidelines
-Assist other departments when necessary
Required Knowledge and Abilities:
-Ability to comprehend and utilize technical service manuals
-Unlimited or unimpaired ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb, and work safely around water, on a ladder, or in a confined space
-Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
-Capacity to work as a team member or alone to achieve expected results

Marine Diesel Mechanic
The Marine Diesel Mechanic is directly responsible to the Lead Maintenance for the proper operation and maintenance of all Marine Mechanical Equipment on the vessel, tow, all engine room tools, equipment. The Diesel Mechanic will coordinate with the office to order any supplies/repairable parts needed in a timely manner to ensure that problems are corrected quickly.
