The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting job opportunity for an Outside Machinist / Millwright in the Chemicals and Energy area at Seadrift, Texas.
The Outside Machinist / Millwright will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing a variety of process and rotating equipment used in industrial processing. The mechanical equipment may include ANSI pumps, various types of compressors, blowers, fans, gearboxes, and turbines.
This job requires hands-on field work to determine cause of equipment failure, locate spare parts, and install spare parts using repair procedures and machinist techniques for alignment.
Knowledgeable in the maintenance of and the proper installation/replacement of rolling element bearings, single and double mechanical seals, shaft couplings and rotating shaft assemblies, and general rotating equipment of all types.
Procedure use - this includes field use, review, revise, and development of procedures.
Be competent in the use of the maintenance tools to include measuring tools such as inside/outside micrometers, depth gauges, etc, for shaft to shaft alignment.

1 year of CNC machining experience or machining certification from an accredited school/program
Intermediate proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints

As the Machinist
- Facility Support, you will:
Be able to work effectively under supervised direction
Have some experience in machining of Gas & Steam turbine repairs (typically acquired though classroom training, on the job training, in shop training as a helper)
Operate machinery and equipment including but not limited to boring bars, lathes, vertical milling machines, drills, hydraulic pumps, chop saws, band saws, laps, hones, taps, and a variety of cutting tools
Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor / work leader
Willing to work overtime as required
Work in compliance with all company policies and procedures
Be able to pass background check and drug screening
Be able to pass all EHS courses and course requirements
- High School Diploma / GED
Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, and reach with hands and arms
Capable of lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs
May require working in confined spaces
Able to work in a variety of outside and inside environments
Demonstrated ability to use precision tools including but not limited to outside and inside micrometers, bore, gages, depth gages, dial indicators, and measuring scales
Proven in shop machining capabilities running Lathe, Mills and Drills
Proven ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary quality and customer service
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
Ability to work independently & to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard acceptable practices
Proficient using MS Office tools including Word, Excel, and Outlook on laptop computers
