This entry level position will be responsible for performing various functions associated with the packaging and insertion of the Dallas Morning News. The Mailer is responsible for making sure products are delivered to the correct location for future processing and/or delivery to the field. Additionally, the candidate will be required to work cooperatively with all employees and temporary employees. This role is responsible for:
Ensure advertising materials are inserted correctly and accurately into the appropriate newspaper sections at a pace that meets targeted production rates
Maintain insert machine operations by continuously feeding product and responding to machine stops by following established procedures
Operate auxiliary equipment such as pallet jacks to deliver products to packaging machines for insertion
Assist in the newspaper loading process by stacking products on pallets and or carts to be delivered to the loading dock
Performs general plant cleaning by sweeping and picking up trash, skids and other material so that the workplace remains clean and safe.
Perform related duties as assigned which may not be listed above but which are within the general occupational series and responsibility level associated with the position
Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.

The Inserter is responsible for loading product into the inserting machine; stacking down product from press or inserter to build skids that can be machine inserted or shipped out; mail labeling and sorting, skid/insert prep; and basic material handling functions. The job environment is deadline-oriented work in a manufacturing environment. Work schedule is determined by workflow. (You could work 15-25 hours a week on average)
Day Shift: 7am to 3pm on Tues/Thurs/Saturday
Night shift: 6 pm-2 am Tuesday-Saturday and/or Friday and Saturday 8 pm-4 am
Operate up to two insert feeders simultaneously, handling pre-prints from basic to complex/ challenging, and maintain net machine speed as dictated by the shift supervisor.
Run insert stack down stacker with supervision, solo or with a partner (depending on product) to maintain net inserting machine speed as dictated by the shift supervisor. Able to build skids of tied or untied product that are neat, stable, and can be fed back through the inserter or shipped out.
Good verbal communication skills required. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and proven ability to be a self-starter a plus. Must be able to push and pull carts loaded with newspapers weighing up to 1000 pounds with assistance and repetitively lift newspaper bundles weighing up to 35 pounds.

Candidates must have two years of solid work history in a manufacturing environment. Mailing equipment experience not needed but it would benefit this position.

2 WEEK SCHEDULE EXAMPLE:
Machine Packer packs product off machine and into cartons or containers according to customer specifications in a manufacturing facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Pack product off machine per orientation on stacking diagrams.
Pack product into cartons without deforming the product.
Assure carton quantity is correct.
Measure and test product.
Identify defects in product and notify operator.
Stop the machine when defects are not corrected.
Maintain a pace the machine sets.
Remove start-ups and screen for defects.
Assure every carton is labeled.
Properly complete Quality checks.
Indentify E-stops and safety sensitive areas.
Assist in Machine Preventive Maintenance.
