Requires a trade school certificate in mechanical training or equivalent work experience performing mechanical repairs. Other skills that are needed; precision measurement, precision alignment, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, engine repair and overhaul, vehicle maintenance and repair, plumbing and pump repairs and equipment operation. Must be able to read and troubleshoot equipment and systems from schematics, diagram and other manufacture supplied documentation.
Burning and welding equipment experience is desirable. Must be trained in energy recognition, personal protective equipment and lockout/tag out procedures.
Must be able to work all shifts and at heights. Must show at least two years of continous, stable and verifiable employment.
May consider NASSCO approved training program. Construction or manufacturing background preferred and have strong mechanical skills. Frequent carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, manual dexterity, reaching, seeing, hearing, occasional kneeling, reclining and finger dexterity. Maintain safety awareness and ability to follow directions.

Maintenance Machinist (2Nd Shift)
Set up and operate a variety of Manual and CNC machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with all procedures, rules and regulations.
Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as, but not limited to, manual lathes and milling machines, CNC lathes and milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
Write advanced programs for CNC Lathes and milling machines; including complicated geometries, using specified cam system.
Have a complete understanding of machining parameters and tool selection for a variety of materials including, but not limited to, aluminum, low carbon steel, tool steel, stainless steel, Inconel and a variety of polymers.
Have a thorough understanding of the processes for heat treating materials to print specified hardness and operate heat treating equipment.
Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operation needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances. Blueprints may include GD&T.
Make design change suggestions based on an understanding of the assembly process and limitations of the machining equipment.
Assemble equipment using mechanical drawings and engineering information as needed.
Design, machine and assemble simple fixtures as required
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
Review Drawing packages and Create list of the required material and supplies
Perform preventative maintenance work on shop equipment as assigned.
Work effectively with limited supervision.
Communicate and perform effectively, both independently and in a team environment.
Mentor and train lower labor grade machinist in the advancement of their knowledge of machining practices and equipment.

This position is responsible for performing highly skilled, precise duplication and fabrication of original parts from drawings, prints or models by programming and operating computer numerically controlled machine tools and operating manually controlled machines in a timely manner with no intervention to meet the needs of Northern's field operations as well as contracted external customers to assure optimum availability, quality and efficiency in a safe manner and/or combining machining skills and mechanical knowledge required to successfully analyze work required to refurbish mechanical assemblies, determine and develop the required processes needed, and implement the plan successfully.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Fully participate in the Northern Natural Gas Safety Program.
Perform high precision tasks within time expectations while working with and around machinery with rotating and sliding mechanical components, sharp tools and heavy parts safely.
Analyze part or part drawing to determine the safest and most efficient process to produce work piece within required time and tolerance expectations.
Program and setup Computer Numerically Controlled lathes and mills to safely and efficiently produce parts within required time and tolerance expectations.
Setup and operate manually controlled machine tools to safely and efficiently produce parts within required time and tolerance expectations.
Measure parts and produce sketches or drawings in such detail as to allow the accurate duplication of the part.
Disassemble and inspect mechanical assemblies to determine the need for repair and method to use.
Recondition and assemble mechanical components safely and efficiently to meet safety, tolerance, and mechanical performance within time expectations.
Develop and create jigs and special tools as required to complete work safely and within time expectations.
Maintain proper machine shop inventory level of materials and supplies to perform routine and emergency jobs.
Maintain machine shop equipment in proper operating condition as required.
Maintain historical records on all completed jobs using maintenance job tickets and logs of jobs completed.
Estimate the cost for performing machining shop work/projects.
Coordinate with the user the proposed cost, scheduling and work completion.
Inspect all finished work completed by machinist IIs and machinists to ensure such work meets or exceeds required specifications.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Associate's degree in machining, mechanical or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an Associate's degree).
Five or more years of related highly complex machinist experience.
Must have a high degree of competency and mastery of the following equipment: program and operate Computer Numerically Controlled lathes, vertical milling machines, horizontal boring mills, and power band saw; precision lapping machine; cylindrical and horizontal spindle grinder; manual milling machines; manual engine lathes; hydraulic press; radial arm drills and drill press; arbor press; precision measurement devices (Micrometer, gauge blocks); and specialized hand tools.
Must have a high degree of competency and mastery of the application of machining skills and mechanical knowledge as it relates to the reconditioning of assemblies and components such as oil pumps, water pumps, turbine components, and reciprocating engine and compressor components.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be able to effectively utilize applicable company software and Microsoft Office programs.
Musts be able to identify work priorities, meet deadlines and function with little or no supervision.
Effectively perform high tolerance work in a hot, noisy environment within time expectations.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
Must be willing to work overtime on short notice when required to meet production deadlines.

CNC Machinist produces machined part programs, setting up and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machines. Multi-task in high paced environment maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies.

Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and standards
Read, understand and interpret manufacturing paperwork, technical information( e.g. drawings, work orders, handbooks, industry standards, specifications, travelers, blueprints, sketches, etc.) in order to produce products as required by customer specifications and quality standards.
CNC Programming experience using Mastercam or similar software. Full understanding of G/M Codes
Create, edit, send, or retrieve CNC programs from systems files as required for machine set-up and operation.
Perform set-up, adjustments and operate CNC 3 Axis and 5 axis machines according to instructions with no supervision or assistance
Setup and operate EDM machine
Maintains equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements.
Attention to detail in maintaining quality standards accordance with ISO 9001 & AS9100
Loading and unloading of parts according to standard work instructions
Work effectively in a team environment and independently
Set-up, build and inspect or maintain parts in the tool room environment.
Ability to use precision measuring instruments and gauges to check parts according to drawings.
Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics (geometry, trigonometry) and part drawings / standards.
Ensure adherence to routed hours and target efficiencies for production.
Provide feedback on equipment, tooling, jigs, fixtures, and work holding solutions to reduce setup times and eliminate rework. Recommend modifications for improved efficiency in assigned areas.
Actively champion & maintain a culture of 5S in the shop.
Be an active resource in time studies to analyze processes & validate recommended process changes.
Be a resource to other company projects. Take part in brainstorming sessions and kaizen events designed to improve safety, efficiency, costs and lead time.
Troubleshoot machines (set-up and tools)
Training of new hires
Demonstrates proficient machining, communication, and troubleshooting.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. Completed technical school courses in machining preferred. Certified Journeyman / Master Machinist preferred. Requires use of advanced shop math, complicated drawings, and a wide variety of precision measuring instruments. Over 5 years of experience with certificate from approved Technical school or 5 -10 years experience operating 3 and or 5 axis machines without certificate
Must be able to walk, climb, lift, push, and pull
The work is performed in a heavy industrial environment with high levels of noise, dust, heat and in cold conditions.
