Traffic Engineer Technician II
Work in this area involves a variety of specialized tasks, including but not limited to: skilled technical work in the review and inspection of traffic work zone plans for all in-street construction projects. This position will also identify, locate, and mark the locations of the City's Traffic Signal and/or Fiber underground utilities in accordance to the CO811 requirements to minimize accidental damage or disruption of service due to construction excavation activities. Duties also include performing traffic count services on an as-needed basis. This positon reports to the City Traffic Operations Supervisor.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills
Ability to develop programs & reports to accomplish the division's strategic plan;
IMSA Level II certification in traffic signs and markings or ability to obtain certification within one year;
Thorough knowledge of the MUTCD as it relates to temporary traffic control plans;
Valid Colorado Drivers License and a good driving record;
High school diploma or equivalent;
Minimum of three years experience in any traffic related traffic control field. May be substituted by a combination of related skills such as working in the roadways requiring traffic control and/or supervisory experience.
Ability to utilize the City's processes to clear and/or document excavation work that will damage the City's Traffic Signal and/or Fiber underground utilities;
Ability to maintain daily computer reports and provide printouts of all utility locates, work zone records and inventory reports;
Ability to work with the Traffic Operations Supervisor to resolve contractor issues involving temporary traffic control plans and utility locates;
Ability to coordinates temporary traffic control impacts with other City departments and public agencies;
Ability to program traffic counters for traffic study request to collect traffic speed, volume, and/or vehicle classification information
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and the public;
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turn around times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.

Traffic Systems Technician II
Performs routine work activities related to the installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance and programming of traffic systems, communication, illumination and data collection devices/systems. Work will be performed in heavy traffic and may require extensive statewide travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
The essential duties for this job include:
Assists in responding to complaints and identifying problems regarding traffic signal timing/traffic congestion and assists in developing recommendations for long-term solutions.
Follows applicable safety procedures when working in an area where other utilities such as high voltage lines, gas lines, water and sewage lines and heavy traffic are located.
Installs, maintains and replaces TV cameras, motorized LED and fiber optic signs and cables; monitors communication devices/systems; as required moves related equipment/items.
Installs, maintains, modifies, adjusts, tests, troubleshoots, inspects and/or repairs electronic traffic control, communication, traffic data collection and/or illumination systems.
Installs, troubleshoots and maintains hardware and software related to traffic systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems or the Statewide Traffic Analysis and Reporting System.
Monitors and maintains clear work zones and cleans construction site at job completion.
Moves/assists in the placement of barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
Operates, maintains and services equipment such as bucket trucks, cable locating instruments.
Prepares written reports that provide feedback on systems including ease of installation and setup, status of inventory needs, any problems encountered or other issues.
Responds to emergency situations to assist with repair and maintenance of traffic signals, systems, lighting or traffic data collection equipment.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
