Work in this class involves assisting the Ferry Chief Engineer in the operation and maintenance of engines and auxiliary equipment on board ferry vessels. Employees perform duties in accordance with specific instructions received from the ferry chief engineer and are responsible for the operation, maintenance and inspection of all engines and auxiliary equipment while the vessel is underway.
Work includes performance of minor and preventive maintenance assignments while underway and assisting major overhaul of motors while vessel is dry-docked. Employees are responsible for following all safety and Homeland Security rules and regulations. Work is performed under direct observation for safe and efficient operation of all equipment. Employees may perform other duties as required.
This position will work out of the OCRACOKE FERRY OPERATION and works shift work – 7 days on and 7 days off.

Responsible for checking fluid levels (fuel, grease, and oil) and performing preventative maintenance (lubrication, oil changes, oil/air filters, and oil samples) on all heavy equipment used on the projects. The oiler must also safely operate a lube/grease truck to dispense lubricants to construction equipment. Must be able to take direction and accurately log daily activities, such as oil changes, samples, fuel usage, etc.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Servicing various types of heavy construction equipment;
Checking and maintaining proper fluid levels for various compartments including engine, hydraulics, transmission, etc.;
Proper handling of successfully-collected fluid samples for analysis;
Accurate record-keeping of all daily tasks via computer and/or paper transactions;
Completing all daily paperwork required for DOT;
Monitoring and maintaining inventories of fuel, oil, filters, etc.;
Visual inspections of machines and reporting conditions/deficiencies;
Compliance with all safety and environmental requirements
Workers should be able to follow specific directions; perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure; evaluate information using measurable standards. Minimum of Class B Driver's license with Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsements. Ability to provide and maintain proper license and acceptable driving record.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma preferred and on-the-job training required. Two plus years of oiler/lube technician experience – preferably with knowledge of heavy equipment. Must provide proper tooling necessary to complete daily job tasks.

Position Overview: Safely operates and monitors the heating tanks on the hot oiler truck which separates water from oil. This is a safety sensitive position.

Completes the paperwork for each job to include pre- and post-trip inspections, work tickets, DOT Logs

Senior Marine Instructor: Marine Corps Junior Rotc Program
Transylvania County Schools seeks a Senior Marine Instructor for the Marine Corps Junior ROTC program at Brevard High School. Position is available July 1, 2019.
Position is full-time and includes employment benefits; 12-month employment term. Applicants for the position must hold or be eligible to hold NC licensure in area 999 Junior ROTC. Additionally, applicants must be retired Marine Corps or Navy officers and must have prior approval of the Marine Corps JROTC program prior to applying for this position. Per MCO P1533.6E, "Interested applicants MUST be approved by the CG, TECOM before being considered for employment as an SMI or MI in the MCJROTC program." Applicants pending MCJROTC instructor approval cannot contact, interview, or otherwise, be a part of any employment process with a School District without a CG, TECOM SIGNED approval letter.
Qualifications (per Marine Corps JROTC program):
1.Officer or Warrant Officer with at least 20 years (or Temporary Early Retirement Authority (TERA) program with 15 or more years active duty) who are eligible to receive retirement pay upon release from active duty.
2.Bachelor's Degree. All college degrees will be verified for accreditation under the standards of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). General Description of the Position:
Senior Marine Instructor (SMI): Senior Marine Instructors manage the MCJROTC Program at their respective schools. They function as regular faculty members and have the same responsibilities as department heads in the school.
The SMI distributes the instructional workload with the MI. In addition to teaching duties, the SMI works with both the school and community in maintaining and strengthening the MCJROTC program. Individuals employed as MCJROTC Instructors will not perform duties or teach classes in any other discipline unless the performance of such duties does not interfere with both the curricular and extracurricular activities associated with the conduct of the MCJROTC Program.
This provision is not intended to preclude MCJROTC Instructors from serving on committees or performing other routine duties that are regularly rotated among faculty members.
