CNC Machinist - ID Grinder
Wissota Tool, a worldwide leader in tooling technology for the can industry, is growing and has immediate opening for CNC Machinists at its Chippewa Falls, WI facility.
This 2nd and 3rd shift positions primarily involve programming, set-up, and operating CNC equipment. Wages range from $17.00 to $24.00 plus 10% shift pay, depending on experience.
Work 36 hours and get paid for 40 if you choose to work 3rd shift.

To remove gating material, blend and grind casting surfaces to meet customer specifications.
1.Finish Grinding Objective: to grind and blend gating and defect areas on metal castings, and provide surface finishing within dimensional tolerances; to remove the minimum amount of metal necessary to remain within specified tolerances.
A. Reviews technique cards and blueprints to determine grinding requirements.
B. Determines stock removal requirements and tolerances for removal of gate material or other added metal stock.
C. Determines acceptance limits for grinding and blending defects.
D. Uses counter-balanced belt grinders, fixed grinders, held-held grinders, air tools, and hand tools including files and mirrors to grind and polish casting areas.
E. Wears required protective shields, clothing, wrist supports, glasses and gloves during grinding operations.
F. Visually inspects castings during grinding operations to assure compliance with specifications.
G. Makes dimensional measurements on specified parts to assure compliance with specifications; marks undersized areas for further inspection.

Reads blueprint for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be ground, and determines what grinding wheel to be used
Mounts wheel on spindle using a hoist, where applicable
Dresses wheel to specifications if required
Position wheel to location for stock removal
Sets up machine to control length of stroke and pattern
Lifts and positions work piece and secures work piece on magnetic chuck
Starts machine and activates controls to feed wheel against work piece
Verifies dimensions of finished work piece for conformance to specifications

Plan sequence of steps to achieve final outcome and desired product dimensions.
Position, align and secure machine parts in machine; set up c fixtures. Work with pieces having some shoulders, steps, and/or tapers.
Select grade of abrasive wheel according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attach to grinder. Determine machine speeds, feeds and stops for standard operations.
Program and set up CNC OD/ID grinders according to blueprint specifications and knowledge of the grinding process.
Operate grinder; make adjustments as needed. Add a flow of coolant to process to maintain the proper temperature of the work piece.
Use indicator, micrometer, vernier calipers, and various precision measuring equipment to set up and check dimensions and contours. Examine and feel surface of work piece for defects.
Maintain equipment and machines; perform preventive maintenance as needed.
Process all necessary documentation and paperwork for parts completed.
Train and guide assisting personnel on the grinding process.
Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
Requires one to three years of trades training or equivalent experience and two to four years of related machining experience. Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percent. Requires the ability to operate various equipment to include form grinders, micrometers, indicators, dressing units, diamond discs, and various other precision measuring equipment. Requires a knowledge of gear principles, tooling, material characteristics, machine shop procedures, abrasives and general machining practices. Requires ability to operator a forklift truck and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
