The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) at the University of Arizona invite applications for a faculty position in high performance materials simulation and theory. A technical expert is sought in the area of multiscale modeling and simulation applied but not limited to hypersonic fluid-thermal-structural interactions, thermodynamics of advanced high performance materials, dynamical evolution of microstructures in the presence of external stimuli, diffusion and non-equilibrium situations in materials systems under extreme conditions.
In addition, expertise is desired in using big data to capture dynamic evolution of microstructures and simulating high temperature oxidation kinetics and corrosion. This is a tenure-track position intended to be at the assistant professor level, although candidates at a more senior academic level will be considered based on qualifications. This position is to begin in spring semester 2018.
The position could be in either department or joint between both departments depending on the expertise of the successful candidate. In this role, your primary responsibility will include the day to day operations and maintenance tasks associated with the various compressor station facilities for Boardwalk's Petal Gas Storage facilities located near Petal, MS. You will be responsible for regulatory compliance including environmental, health and safety, operations, maintenance, and repair of station equipment including, but not limited to reciprocating, turbine and electric natural gas compressors, TEG dehydrators, fluid separation equipment, leach plant equipment, valves, etc. You also will be expected to follow procedures associated with DOT regulations, industry standards, manufacturer recommendations, and BWP guidelines as they relate to equipment and appurtenances which includes, but is not limited to; operating the equipment and the lead role in the repair and maintenance of reciprocating natural gas fired Waukesha and Caterpillar engines, along with Toshiba and GE electric units and associated compressor units including the overhaul and mechanical repairs of all reciprocating natural gas engines and compressors. Additional responsibilities include completing OMS database compliance and maintenance inspections as assigned, performing routine maintenance activities such as filter changes, cleaning and inspecting coolers, periodic checks associated with various components throughout the facility and with engines/compressor (e.g. valves, shut-down devices, rod/bearing clearances, packing, piston clearances, lube oil samples, web deflections, cooling fan inspections, emergency shut-down systems, fire/gas detection, etc.), assisting with calibration of temperature and pressure transmitters and other electrical maintenance, monitoring flows and operating conditions of all units at the Petal Gas Storage facilities. In addition, you will follow all BWP safety rules, environmental and OSHA regulations, document all maintenance activities and operational data and will assist at the Forrest and Destin Compressor stations near Petal, MS and Vossburg, MS., as needed to assist with mechanical repairs, operation of the facility, etc. Qualified candidates will be responsible for emergency response and must live within 30 miles of the Petal Gas Storage facilities located near Petal, MS in order to respond to call outs expediently.
