Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Tech- 1St Shift
Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to Laboratory protocol and procedures. This position will rotate through Chemistry, Hematology, and the Urine Analysis departments on the 1st shift (8:30-5:00 p.m./24-hours per week). Working in collaboration with other highly skilled individuals to produce quality and timely Laboratory results for our post-acute facilities across multiple states and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). The Laboratory features state of the art automation including the Beckman Power Express, Integra 400 Plus and Roche E411 in Chemistry, Sysmex XN-9000 for Hematology, Cellavision for Differential, Sysmex for Coagulation, and Beckman Coulter Iris for Urinalysis. This position will also require experience with microscopic evaluations on peripheral blood smears, urinalysis and differentials. The Laboratory is well versed in continuous improvement opportunities using LEAN thinking, continually looking for ways to improve it's services for the care of it's patients.
Baccalaureate degree in relevant Medical Lab/Clinical Lab science preferred. Minimum of one (1) year clinical laboratory internship preferred. At least an MLT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP Equivalent) is required. MT (ASCP) or MT Eligible (ASCP Equivalent) is preferred. Experience in all 3 lab specialties (Urinalysis, Chemistry, Hematology) preferred; minimum requirement of experience in 2-3 specialties with ability to train on others.

Medical Lab Technologist Or Medical Technologist
Description: Collects, processes and performs analytical testing on patient specimens; performs quality control procedures; evaluates and reports patient test results; performance maintenance procedures on testing equipment. Knowledge of the theories and principles of medical technology allows MLT to follow prescribed strategies for recognizing a problem and problem solve using undermined criteria.
Ability to work alone during night shift. Consults Lead Technologist, Director Laboratory Services or Medical Director, as needed.

Within the scope of practice as a registered Medical Technologist, and in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation requirements, perform a wide variety of Laboratory procedures, records and controls on tissue, blood, exudates and other body fluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Clinical Microscopy, Serology and other tests to obtain data for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease. Adheres to the professional standards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

1.Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
2.Performs laboratory procedures on tissue, blood, exudates and other body fluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Clinical Microscopy, and Serology in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, professional standards, lab procedures and hospital policies.
3.Obtains analytical data (e.g., color end points, digital read outs, tracings, patterns, agglutinations); converts to prescribed units for reporting; and correlates data to verify results. Writes laboratory reports (identifying sample and stating methods and results); reports results to appropriate individuals. Maintains continuity, quality and accuracy of documentation to insure results are properly and timely reported.
4.Calibrates, standardizes, adjusts, and maintains instruments. Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks (e.g, mechanical, optical, scintillation, gasometric, photmetric, electrometric, automated). Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs; conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products, and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
5.Directs and supervises the work of assigned students, phlebotomists, technicians and technologists, providing verbal review of performance and making recommendations to laboratory administrators for scheduling, staffing and personnel decisions.
Forest Health Medical Center , a 68-bed, multi-specialty surgical hospital located in Ypsilanti, Michigan is seeking a Medical Technologist, contingent hours with on call responsibilities.
