UF Health Pathology Laboratories' (UFHPL) Core Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for performing specialized testing in the areas of chemistry, immunology, hematology, and coagulation in a CAP accredited laboratory. This position is responsible for the performance, quality, and accuracy of the results reported; maintenance of instrumentation, including scheduled, preventive, and troubleshooting, as needed; preparation of standards, calibrators, and reagents; and adherence to the laboratory's quality management program. This position will assume administrative duties including supervising operations and personnel for the UFHPL Core Laboratory.
Supervise and perform laboratory testing of human biological samples for diagnostic purposes using various methodologies. Testing includes, but is not limited to, operation of state-of-the-art automated chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, and coagulation systems and performing various clinical laboratory assays using automated and/or manual methods.
Actively participate in the interfacing of automated instrumentation with the laboratory information system (LIS); involved in LIS-associated tasks such as test builds and dictionary maintenance.
Participate in the overall maintenance of the laboratory. Purchase supplies, maintain instruments and equipment, and comply with all laboratory policies and procedures.
Responsible for all routine documentation associated with the performance of laboratory testing; includes reporting results and all quality control documentation.
Participate, with other technologists, in development of tests as defined by the laboratory director.
Recommend updates and make changes to laboratory procedure manuals. Responsible for keeping the UFHPL Core Lab in a continual state of readiness per CAP, AHCA and CLIA requirements. Conduct performance appraisals and competency assessments for staff.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Medical Technologist II, in their role as Testing Personnel as defined by CLIA, may be delegated the responsibility of the technical oversight of the Hematology laboratory including the day-to-day supervision or oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting results.
Under general supervision, carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the department's standard operating procedures. Works independently in an efficient and organized manner to assure accurate results and records.
Assists with training of staff. The work requires a professional level of knowledge to read and interpret accurately test results used by physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities as outlined by CLIA:
Testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results.
1.Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results;
2.Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;
3.Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
4.Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance;
5.Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director;
6.Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications; and
7.If qualified under §493.1489(b)(5), perform high complexity testing only under the onsite, direct supervision of a general supervisor qualified under §493.1461.
Exception: For individuals qualified under §493.1489(b)(5), who were performing high complexity testing on or before January 19, 1993, the requirements of paragraph (b)(7) of this section are not effective, provided that all high complexity testing performed by the individual in the absence of a general supervisor is reviewed within 24 hours by a general supervisor qualified under §493.1461.

9.Participates in proficiency testing program.
10. Communicates with hospital personnel providing assistance related to laboratory policies and procedures, laboratory utilization, and test result interpretation.
11. Is responsible for ordering and maintaining an appropriate level of inventory and laboratory supplies.
12. Keeps current in developments in technical instrumentation and analytical techniques in Clinical Hematology.

General Statement of Duties:

Performs various hematological tests and examinations such as red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts, sickle cell tests, studies of red blood cell morphology, hemoglobin estimations, sedimentation rate, coagulation time, and indices.
Assists in the teaching of laboratory technology students.
Performs general work throughout all aspects of the Laboratory including gram stains, body fluid analysis, and a variety of serological test.

Lafayette Regional Health Center is currently looking for a PRN Medical Technologist ASCP.
Under the general supervision of the Director/Section Manager/Operations Manager/Lead Technologist performs preanalytic testing responsibilities including clerical duties, date entry, and specimen processing.
Performs moderate complexity and high complexity testing on blood and body fluids as defined by CLIA 1988.Performs postanalytic testing responsibilities including test reporting, verification, investigation of technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected test results. Monitors quality control. Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents.
Maintains non-analytic equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and centrifuges.
Maintains a safe work area.
Demonstrates professional work habits, interpersonal skills and great customer service.
Participates in performance improvement activities, evaluation of new test methodologies/instrumentation, and management of laboratory data.
Correlates abnormal laboratory data with pathologic states to determine validity and/or whether follow-up tests should be performed.
Teaches theory and procedures using educational methodology to clinical laboratory science (medical technology) students. Assists with the orientation and training of LTA, LTA, LSC, CLT/MLT, MT Non-registered, and CLS/MT Registered employees.
The Medical Technoligst analyzes and interprets testing for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
This employee may or may not be required to perform specimen collections as defined by their individual competencies.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an accredited MLT program OR a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course
Certifications: MLT (ASCP), CLT (NCA) or equivalent certification required OR registry/certification eligible. Registry/certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Experience: Experience preferred

Team member is responsible for performing all laboratory procedures, including quality control, specimen collection, processing, testing and reporting of lab results. Team member will also assist in the evaluation of new or modified techniques when required. They will advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software as necessary.
Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent required. Successful completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Technology or MT program preferred.
Experience: One year experience as laboratory tech.(Clinical internships of 12 months duration meet this requirement) preferred. Licensure/certification/registration: Technologist/Scientist Certification from ASCP(BB, C, H, MT/MLS, M, MB) or AMT MT required.
MT/MLS preferred.All individuals certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004 must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification(BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program(CMP). All individuals who are certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006 must participate and maintain AMT Certification Continuation Program(CCP) required. Additional skills required: New graduates must obtain certification within 12months of hire.
Failure to do so will result in termination of employment. All individuals who are newly certified ASCP beginning January 1, 2004 must participate and maintain ASCP Board of Certification(BOC) through the Certification Maintenance Program(CMP). All individuals who are newly certified AMT beginning January 1, 2006 must participate and maintain MT Certification Continuation Program(CCP).Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tests.
