Description of the Work
This position is a crucial role; our first name is Precision and we manufacture metal parts; unless it is precise at every stage, our quality standards and that of our customers would not be met. If not for our satisfied customers, we would not exist. Parts begin as hand-crafted wax injections into highly engineered tools. Then they progress into investment casting which involves molten metal in our foundry. Once parts are surgically removed from a ceramic shell and support structure, they are sent to the Finish team to refine and prepare for final Quality testing. Finish involves straightening metal parts, or grinding with special tools, or further machining. Additional skills may include welding. Work in Finish requires steady hands, fine finger dexterity, sharp eyes and a mind that is obsessive about safety, precision, and perfection. It is artistry and craftsmanship. People who tend to do well in this may have had prior experience in machining, metal crafts or fabrication, welding or assembly lines. Must have 2-3 years of skills, knowledge, experience and comfort with; bench equipment, hand tools, deburring, burr guns and grinders.
Precision Cast Parts Corporation (PCC), a Berkshire Hathaway company, is the world's leader in investment casting of precision parts for a variety of components, primarily noted for delivery on advancements in jet and rocket propulsion engines. Go to www.precast.com for the incredible story about the corporation.
This position is located in one of the smallest plants out of 190 such plants globally, however, one that specializes in small precision-made complex parts which require a great deal of engineering, a bit of metallurgic magic and hand-crafted workmanship. It really is STEAM – where Science, Technology, Engineering, Artistry and Mathematics all come together!
This particular plant started as a family operation in 1956 and still maintains that family and maker feel, although we are growing at 20% per year. Since 1956, we were quietly honing our craft until aviation and technology caught up. Now, we find ourselves at the intersection of SpaceX commute rockets and our ability to work with super alloys to create incredibly thin walled, complex small parts for rocket and jet propulsion. For the whole story, you'll want to come in for a tour.
We are located at 414 Hester Street, San Leandro, CA.
