The Metal Machine Operator performs work under limited supervision within assigned areas in a manner, which meets or exceeds established quality and quantity standards.
Work Performed Includes:
Sets up, adjusts and operates with speed and accuracy a variety of metal machines including, but not limited to: press brake, punch presses, tube benders, saws
Follow engineering drawings and blueprints
Achieve high standard in regard to quality of parts
Determine the materials required and follow the sequence of tasks outlined on production orders
Exercise proper ability to determine correct inspections
Maintain equipment and environment to be clean and safe
Qualifications of Position Include:
High School plus some college, vocational/technical school training is desired

Incumbent frequently works with objects weighing up to 60 pounds and on an occasional basis in excess of 100 pounds however, moving equipment will be available. The semi-skilled operator works as part of a manufacturing line in the Thermal Metal Processing Shop operating a variety of machines. Semi-skilled operators will produce parts in tolerance at the rate required by each operation.
Performs all assigned duties not limited to running mill flat, shot blast, and sheer boss machines, perform grinding, and packing parts produced. Constantly operating multiple machines while lifting, pulling and pushing manufactured products at the established rate of production.
Regularly setting up, installing, replacing and removing associated materials and tooling. Frequently reading and comprehending work instructions and blue prints. Often making adjustments to bring parts into tolerance.
May be required to work shore car area assisting in shipping, receiving and distribution of incoming materials. Repeatedly lifting, loading and unloading a broad variety of products and materials. Frequently works with hand tools to secure materials and products for transportation. Knows basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.
Measures all manufactured products accurately through lifting, pulling, pushing followed by applying proper technique to hand measuring tools, template gages, flush pin gages, and depth gages, and other product related measuring equipment.
Works with and follows Basic Rules of Manufacturing, General Dynamics OTS Environmental Policy, ISO Documentation, Quality Policy and other work related policies.
At all times demonstrates common safety practices associated with the manufacturing environment and the use of hand or industrial equipment. Is required to recognize problems, make corrective adjustments and /or notify appropriate supervision.

Sheet Metal Operator
Works independently and in concert with others to perform processes necessary to efficiently and effectively fabricate detail parts. The operator must function as a productive, contributing and responsible member of his/her work team. Essential Job Duties and
Follows all company and work center specific production, administration and safety policies and procedures. Attends and actively participates in all required training.
Reviews manufacturing planning, part-specific engineering information, set-up information and/or related instructions to understand appropriate work process and quality requirements for completed product.
For machine dependent operations, selects proper tooling, programs and edits to machines (i.e. set-up machine) and starts and observes machine operation during first part production to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions. Adjusts machine controls or other control media as required. Depending upon work center assignment, the operator will set-up and operate but not limited to one or more of the following machines: roll form, turret, brake press, hyrdopress and drill press.
Uses gauges, scales, calipers, mylars and/or blueprints, customer tools and other measuring equipment to check first part quality. Obtains first part for buy-off from lead person, supervisor, quality control inspector and/or second team member. Upon buy-off, completes production run for the manufacturing planning operation. Performs 100% inspection of all parts, subsequent to first part buy-off, and completes requirements of applicable statistical process control plans. Where available, uses target times to evaluate timely completion of work. Notifies lead person or supervisor about substantive discrepancies between manufacturing planning target time and actual set-up and/or run times.
Responsible for minor machine maintenance and maintaining proper alignment and condition of machine.
Completes required documentation, including but not limited to: manufacturing planning operation buy-off, recording of accurate part counts, labor card entry, set-up information, special notes, data collection plans, tie-in information and recording the disposition of non-conforming material. Tears down machine or hand tool set-up upon completion of production run, returning all tools, equipment and accessories to their proper locations. Moves complete part order to next manufacturing operation or staging area.
Works with others, using continuous process improvement tools and techniques and just-in-time manufacturing techniques, to develop and install process improvements that positively impact manufacturing through-put, machine and human resources utilization, space utilization, organization and other factors. Assists to incorporate process improvements into document instructions.
Actively participates in work center and cross-functional process improvement teams by attending team meetings, completing action items, encouraging complete and respectful discussion and understanding of goals, alternatives and solutions.
Work in a fast paced environment with fast changing priorities, providing a high level of attention to detail and focus on a given task and keeping work area clean and organized
Complete other duties as assigned by the management team including working as needed in various other positions to support work flow and to fill in for other team members.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Solid background working with sheet metal.
Knowledge of punching process and punch tooling.
Knowledge of roll forming of sheet metal.
Ability to read blueprints.
Knowledge of brake forming and hand forming a plus.
Ability to work with a variety of hand tools including angle grinders, drills and polishers.
Proven measurement and mathematical fraction/decimal conversion skills.
Ability to distinguish material types including Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel, Copper and Brass.
Demonstrated decision-making ability utilizing good judgment in determining the appropriate guideline, procedure, and application to utilize in solving problems.
Understanding of process flows, lead times and lean principles in a "manufacturing environment", preferably in the aerospace industry.
Flexible schedule is required; this position requires some weekend work.
Candidate has to be a strong team player and be reliable.
Knowledge of safe lifting techniques.

The Industrial Truck Operator performs transportation assignments in designated locations according to prescribed method. Identifies and transports material to and from storage areas, cars, or trucks, machines and loading docks.
Identify many types, sizes and labels of finished or in process products, shipping material or other processing materials. Familiarize self with productive capacity of machines or lines and work from schedule and change sheets to assure correct and prompt delivery of items to proper destination.
Use hand truck or dollies, work saver or similar powered vehicles. Use hand or automatic strapping equipment to replace or add strapping to loads.-
Handle and pile skids, pallets or drums. Repile spilled loads of materials or product.
Move and replace scrap receptacles located throughout the plant. Segregate, weigh and record scrap for shipment.
Record incoming and outgoing production and supplies.
Load correct finished product into trailers. Insert and fill air bags safe guard product. Install wood dun age and material in trailers per loading specs.
Receive incoming material to proper storage or use location, using lift truck or hand cart.
Notify supervisor of any incidences of recurring equipment malfunctions, discrepancies in shipments, receipts, delays and corrective action taken and of any poor quality material or supplies noted.
Operate equipment and assist production as directed.
Make routine inspections of lift trucks to see that they are properly serviced. Add lubrication and coolant as required or service batteries.
Handle dock board, packages, bracing and strapping. Use tools for bracing trucks and cars.
Quality inspections of outbound product applicable documentation and support to driverscustomers.
Perform other ITO duties as assigned.
