Technician Specialist Engineering will perform duties supporting the Analytical Sciences Purchased Component Failure Analysis (PCFA) Laboratory testing. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for assisting experienced Engineers and Technicians with a variety of day to day testing activities. This position follows defined procedures and processes using various testing equipment, with a particular emphasis on metallographic sample preparation, in order to complete tasks. Testing is primarily in support of production and new development operations.
Summary of Duties:
Requires the ability to work independently at a high level, as well as on teams, to complete special projects, perform testing
Requires ability to work well within a small core team environment to continuously improve testing throughput and schedules to meet customer needs
Routinely responsible for setup of testing and support equipment, sample preparation, monitoring and measuring instruments and other apparatus in support of a wide variety of materials testing
Coordinates necessary testing and data collection, and evaluates data for validity, accuracy and completeness.
Improves and refines existing fixtures, devices, methods, process steps or procedures, implementing changes as necessary and according to NSC regulations.
May provide technical direction and training to other technologists and hourly employees to include task or project lead.
Collects/interprets data and prepares technical reports
Prepares evaluation reports
Requires the ability to interface with multi-disciplines and colleagues across the plant, including those within Engineering, Facilities, Maintenance, and Manufacturing Operations
Prepares specifications and justifications for selected equipment purchases

Quality Assurance Engineer I
Major responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Metallographer include preparing both internal and external customer samples for defect analysis. The preparing of this work includes, but is not limited to use of laboratory equipment such as shears, vertical and horizontal saws, sample mounting equipment and sample polishing equipment. The metallographer will perform defect analysis using microscopes- both scanning electron and optical. After analysis is complete, technical reports will be written and distributed to the appropriate stakeholders. The Siemens Winston Service Center is seeking an experienced and hands-on Coating Application Engineer. A successful candidate in this position will be responsible for industrializing thermal spray application processes for engine run and new land based power generation turbine components. The position also provides on-going shop floor support of coating application and related processes within Siemens Energy Gas Turbine Service Division.
Primary responsibilities will include:
Development and qualification of coating processes for gas turbine blades, vanes and other components by means of high-velocity-oxygen-fuel spraying (HVOF) and plasma spraying (APS)
In-depth support development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with responsibility for due dates, results and costs associated with your field of activities
Develop robotic programs for the application of thermal coating systems for Fanuc and ABB robots using Robotmaster. Support legacy Karel, TP, ABB Rapid programs for complex 3-d turbine components
Work with materials/coatings engineering to develop parameters for HVOF & APS processes used to control the application of MCrAlY, TBC & Hardface materials.

Perform receiving inspection functions on raw material such as mechanical testing, etch inspection, metallography, material certification review, special testing as required. Initiate and document any outside testing that is required and maintain all receiving inspection records.

High school or equivalent. Additional knowledge beyond that specified with the understanding of somewhat complicated drawings, diagrams, charts: shop arithmetic and ordinary shop mathematics including use of handbook formulas, table; basic principles and methods of setup and operations of several machine tools. Formal training in metallurgy, metallographic techniques, statistical process control, sampling plans and quality related fields. Must have basic computer skills. Must be familiar with properties and microstructures of bearing materials. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. maximum unassisted. Excess of 50 lbs. assistance required. Eye examination required per (Q.C.I 8 paragraph 9.1)
1 – 2 years experience in metallographic techniques
