Performing DTA testing.
Performing chemistry sample testing on production etch tanks.
Performing decarburization depth analysis via micro hardness.
Performing grain size evaluations via ASTM E112 and GE-A E50TF133.
Performing alpha case depth evaluations.
Performing microstructural evaluations (Titanium structure & secondary phases in Nickel alloys).
Documenting microstructural evaluations via digital photography.
Performing on-part (spot micro) metallographic evaluations on product.
Interacting with metallurgists on investigations and special projects.
High School diploma or equivalency:
Degree in Material Science or related field preferred
Experience with microscopes (standard or inverted).

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Primary responsibilities include: perform routine calibrations of NDT equipment. Prove-up results to validate equipment operation and identify nature of defects. Record test results and post material in database. Preparation of test specimens for metallurgical evaluations as required.
This job requires a degree or equivalent, and at least two (2) years operations experience (internal) or operations with testing environment. This job requires the incumbent to complete the Metallurgical Technician Qualification Checklist. This incumbent should possess basic computer literacy.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform equipment set-ups, tests and evaluations.
Perform routine calibrations of NDT equipment.
Verify testing requirements with software for each order release.
Prove-up results to validate equipment operation and identify nature of defects.
Record test results and post material in database.
Perform maintenance of test equipment to ensure continual operation.
Maintain inventory of supplies required to maintain test operations.
Preparation and defect marking of test specimens for metallurgical evaluations as required.
Verify rejected material for chemical/metallurgical evaluations.
Ensure mill defects are put on hold.
Maintain housekeeping and 5S in the area.
Observe and follow all general and departmental safety rules and regulations.
Follow Cardinal Safety Rules.
Complete all required annual safety and environmental training (inc. fugitive dust).
Responsible for spill prevention, containment, response and clean up or assist in clean up of material spills.
Know, understand, and follow all applicable Federal, State, and Local environmental legal requirements and practices.

Reporting to the Metallurgical Engineering Manager, the Metallurgical Lab Technician's key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Collection of multiple tube samples from each of our 8 producing lines.
Identify each sample and cut to the required length for Tensile Testing.
Prepare and measure the dimensions before destructively test tubing.
Record and prepare the Mechanical Properties Certification by interfacing with AS400 system.
Maintenance and calibration of all testing equipment as needed.
Be available to work Saturday and across shifts when needed.

High School diploma required; Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred.
Experience with mechanical and chemical testing of steel plain and galvanized.

Under minimal supervision,performs metallurgical lab functions, including testing and administrativeduties to assure compliance with customer requirements.
May lead function during absence ofmetallurgical engineer.
Checks test samples for dimensions using precision measuring equipment such as gages, calipers, scales, micrometers. Prepares/tests/evaluates/certifies all metallurgical tests required per internal production, customer and/or specification requirements.

This entry-level position has responsibility for metallurgical aspects of manufacturing and provides metallurgical support to management personnel for operational challenges in a fast-paced organization. Utilizing independent judgement, this position provides technical support for various phases of material processing, works with Operations to ensure good quality procedures are in place and assists in experimentation with new materials and processes to expand and improve the end products that are provided.

Conduct product and process development and metallurgy reviews to support production;

Assist with development of new grades and processes to meet customer requirements;

Provide technical support for all phases of steel operations;
Execute and analyze metallurgical testing activities and results;
Provide cost reduction and process enhancements related to metallurgical aspects of the products;
Assist with problem solving of metallurgical topics throughout the facilities;
Analyze and determine root cause(s) of internal non-conformances and mechanical test failures;
Investigate customer claims and provide oral/written summation of findings;
Customer interface involving metallurgical items;
Must have ability and desire to work well with personnel at all levels of the organization;
Ability to travel regionally and nationally, as needed;

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science or commensurate level of experience; and

This position is accountable for developing an understanding of aluminum metallurgy associated with his/her area of assignment. This position will apply metallurgical knowledge to the development and evaluation of products, processes and equipment. The principle challenge of this position is to determine workable solutions to metallurgical process problems of moderate scope and to implement these solutions in an economical, timely and safe fashion.

Lead Metallurgical Engineer

Provides corrosion and metallurgical/materials engineering expertise and technical support.
Provides technical expertise on refinery process unit Corrosion Studies and Integrity Operating Window (IOW) reviews based on Risk Based Inspection (RBI) methodology, including providing technical support for updating and implementing RBI inspection strategies and criticality (risk) assessments.
Review and recommend improvements to current refinery written practices on material selection; inspection and NDE; welding and heat treatment; and protective coating/refractory.
Provides technical expertise for Quality Assurance of Fixed Equipment fabrication and repair that occurs on capital projects and refinery maintenance (routine and turnaround).
Conducts Material Selection Diagram (MSD) reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance with NACE SP0407.
Provides on-site technical support for significant inspection and NDE activities including interpretation of advanced NDT test results and reports.
Facilitates failure analyses of significant fixed equipment loss of containment incidents and participates in incident investigations as required. Capable of providing metallographic examination that includes sample preparation using onsite metallographic laboratory.
Provides technical advice for use of corrosion monitoring technologies including cathodic protection.
Supports and mentors training of inspectors regarding fixed equipment damage mechanisms and equipment fabrication.
Experience and Education
Minimum undergraduate degree in metallurgical/materials engineering or chemical engineering required.
Minimum 15 years' refining industry experience required with at least 10 years' experience supporting maintenance, inspection or corrosion engineering activities.
Experience with current advanced NDT technologies in refining fixed equipment application
Through knowledge of industry codes and standards applicable to refinery degradation mechanisms and refractory materials required.
Experience in use of RBMI software and conduct of risk assessment preferred.
Approximately 20% travel required.
Must be able to climb ladders, enter towers, examine remote equipment and work within confined spaces.
This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications.

This position serves to provide technical support to a manufacturing area, Laboratories or product line. This support includes quality systems, metallurgical practice determination, product and process improvement, product and process development, customer technical service, product testing, inspection and general area leadership.
This position provides high level technical knowledge and plant wide leadership for metallurgical understanding of critical processes or products identified as core competencies for Davenport Works. This position may be called upon to support like technologies across Arconic. The core competencies to be supported at this level have been identified as: 1) Casting, 2) Rolling, 3) Heat Treatment, 4) USI, 5) Laboratory Technology 6) Lubricant Technology 7) Heat Treated Plate Products, 8) Heat Treated Sheet Products, 9) Common Alloy Products, 10) Quality Systems/Process Management, and 11) Customer Field Support.
Major activities and deliverables: Environmental, health, and safety (EHS): This position is expected to fully support Davenport Work's EHS policies and programs. This is to be accomplished by staying current on required training, being responsible for one's own safety, helping enforce safe work practices in the mill and ensuring that those under their mentorship are properly trained.
Arconic Business Systems (ABS): This position is expected to understand how ABS principles apply to their area of competency and apply those principles in solving problems and deploying solutions. In particular, the position is expected to understand the problem solving process and process management systems. ABS and Technical Leadership: • Supports process and product improvement initiatives utilizing the appropriate quality and ABS tools within a manufacturing area. • Supports and may lead quality system activities within a manufacturing or product area. • Provides support in capability and compliance technical audits. • Provides minimal prioritization of work.
Quality Assurance Leadership: • Ensures that quality systems in their area are performing correctly and reacts to exceptions, especially systems and processes impacting product integrity. • Helps maintain critical processes. This role requires knowledge to support, both sheet and plate processing, hot and cold rolling, thermal process management, as well as heat treated and non-heat treated products. This role also includes direct supervision of 5-6 Metallurgical Engineers, indirect supervision of 2 Metallurgical Engineers and approximately 28 hourly employees (Quality Star Points). This position may be filled at a higher job band based on candidate experience.
Bachelors degree in metallurgical engineering or materials science from an accredited institution.
Minimum of six years of metallurgical experience working with metals.
