JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE
Prepares test samples, performs metallurgical testing, completes analysis and reports results on a variety of materials using defined processes and techniques. Depending on the area assigned, the position may include use of Optical Microscopy, Tensile Testers, Hardness Testers, and CTE equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
All Technician Levels:
- Actively participate in EH&S initiatives and other safety related teams in the Lab.
Metallurgical Technician A:
Proficient and able to train Technician B operators in the basic skills required.
Guides, assigns work and checks results for Tech B.
Assists in the development of new or modified procedures.
Assumes Section Leader duties as assigned.
Able to work independently for more advanced Metallurgical Laboratory techniques, for example:
Preparation of Precision Elastic Limit (PEL) test bars by etching, measuring and installing strain gages and performs testing of the prepared bars.
Makeing precision measurements with micrometers, microscope, stage micrometers, and electrical temperature instruments while conducting tensile property testing.
Evaluating metallurgical samples for cleanliness, heat treated condition and grain size, using any of a number of different methods.
Performing CTE, and Magnetic Permeability Testing.
Reports analytical results directly to those requesting laboratory service within the limitations established by the Supervisor.
Maintain Quality Systems in the laboratory and assists in writing Procedures as requested.
Maintains sample preparation equipment, testing equipment, and cleanliness of the areas.
Maintains instrumentation in the assigned section, which entails providing problem solving and corrective actions.
Metallurgical Technician B:
Performs basic Metallurgical Laboratory tasks independently using prepared, modified, or new analytical procedures.
Performs sample preparation including machining /operation of CNC lathes. Prepares tensile bars and performs tensile testing at elevated and room temperature under supervision until formally qualified.
Learns more advanced Metallurgical Laboratory tasks under supervision until formally qualified. .
Maintains cleanliness and stocks of the work area.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Metallurgical Technician A:
Requires 3 or more years of laboratory experience in the metals or materials field with experience as a metallurgical technician strongly preferred. Alternatively, we will consider 1 year of technical laboratory experience coupled with at least 2 years of college level laboratory experience, specifically including proficiency in any two of the following areas: metal sample preparation, mechanical testing, tensile testing or metallography.
Metallurgical Technician B:
Requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant laboratory experience or in lieu of this experience, a 2 year degree with a science major or a 4 year degree with science and math courses. Must be able to perform basic laboratory techniques. Employment experience in manufacturing is preferred.

The Metallurgical Laboratory Technician (MET Lab) assists the Senior Metallurgist in providing quality and technical oversight for the optimization of all thermal treatment processes in this facility. Actively participate in training operators using heat-treating and NDT processes.
Support and participate in process improvement initiatives utilizing lean manufacturing tools and techniques as required.
Identify root causes and solutions to current production problems.
Assist in the development heat treatment and NDT processes for new products.

Technician I Metallurgical Heat Treat
Summary of Position:
Maintain on-site systems through accurate data recording and assessment; liaising with Complex Manager, Site Manager II and/or Team Lead Technician where necessary to provide a high standard Fluidcare support function.
Measure and record coolant parameters and maintain lubrication schedules to ensure the coolant parameters are met to maintain the highest coolant conditions. This may involve the dropping and cleaning of tanks when required.
Cut-up, mount and prepare parts for metallurgical testing. Surface etching of parts for analysis. Measurement and metallurgical determinations consisting of hardness and microstructure analysis.
May be required to prepare detailed shift reports to ensure the hand-off to the next shift is timely and accurate. Liaise directly with the customer as needed.
Enter results in appropriate databases. Basic understanding of computers including email, excel and MS word.
May be required to operate hand tools, shop tools and equipment, in-plant burden carriers and fork lift trucks.
Requires basic knowledge of standardized, often repetitive work routines acquired through training on the job. Work is governed by precise and detailed rules and instructions and solutions are defined and repetitive. Honeywell Aerospace Materials Engineering (MatEng) is seeking a Materials and Process Engineer I for the Clearwater, FL facility to support both local design and manufacturing activities as well as global Aero MatEng activities. This is a challenging, multi-dimensional role that requires the individual to perform at a high level while working multiple concurrent task assignments. The role combines a hands-on role in the laboratory with an engineering role to support the manufacturing and design of guidance and navigation systems for both space and ground applications.
In the hands-on role, the candidate will operate a wide variety of analytical equipment used to support receiving inspection of production materials, as well as engineering evaluations and failure analysis of Electronic materials. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and support day-to-day operation of the Metals lab, including scheduling daily activities, developing & performing test processes and working with lab technicians and Senior Engineers to provide guidance and oversight to the technical staff. In addition, they will provide interpretation of data/results to internal customers. As they develop, they may take on work in additional lab areas such as Magnetics or Metal Finish.
In the engineering role, the candidate will execute various projects to meet customer needs. Examples would include supporting site programs in limited-scope problem investigations, performing drawing reviews, specifying appropriate materials and processes as part of product design to ensure those meet both customer flow-down and internal Honeywell requirements, participation in multi-disciplinary technical teams and generational of technical reports.
The successful candidate will be expected to use their metallurgical knowledge to develop into a technical resource for solving the unique metallurgical issues associated with electronics manufacturing for space & defense guidance and navigations systems. Proficient in Earned Value processes. (e.g, Raytheon Earned Value (EV) certification)
Six Sigma certification
Experience writing materials and process – related cost estimates. (e.g., Raytheon Bases of Estimate (BOEs)).
Must be self-motivated and possess good communication skills, especially in creating technical documents for an audience with limited technical background
Desire and ability to work as a team member is essential
Experience with the flow down of engineering drawing requirements to process instructions for manufacturing personnel and process engineers
Familiarity with PTC Windchill Product Data Management (PDM) and/or Windchill Product Analytics
This position can be a G08 or G09 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position.

Metallurgical Plant Controller
Lead the finance activities at one or more manufacturing locations
Understand the business strategy related to, and conduct analyses for, sales, manufacturing and operating expenses, to enable effective decision making and to help develop the plants' strategic vision
Complete the monthly close process, financial reporting, and budgeting and forecasting
Communicate the monthly, quarterly and annual results to allow a cross-functional team to understand the drivers of business performance

This Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for providing materials and systems support as necessary to the computer based Integrated Quality System and metallurgical functions within the divisional quality group. This position will be responsible for applying chemistry and various branches of the engineering sciences to the design, development or operation of processes and equipment used in the production process.
