Job Description and Responsibilities
We are seeking an entry level position and training opportunity to assist with evaluation in regard to mechanical testing and metallurgical evaluations of all EVRAZ Pueblo products as an engineer in the metallurgical laboratory. The position will contribute to testing and investigations performed in the met lab and provide technical support outside the laboratory working on product and process improvement projects. The position reports to the Director of Product Technology and is intended to facilitate subsequent advancement at EVRAZ Pueblo within 2 to 3 years.
Responsible for assisting the Product Metallurgist with all testing and evaluations performed at the EVRAZ Pueblo met lab to include rail, rod and tube products
Support Product Technology development and process improvement efforts through assistance with experimentation and material evaluation
Participate in trials and material testing through communication with the respective mill, metallurgy laboratory staff and/or developing testing protocols as needed
Assist with customer complaint investigations to include failure analysis as needed working with EVRAZ-Pueblo technical services, product technology engineers, met lab personnel and customers
Work with companies and organizations involved in long products, such as railroads, on customer engagement focused related research efforts
Ability to train lab personnel in required job functions to include mechanical testing and metallographic evaluations
Assist in the development of mechanical and metallographic test protocols for development of material and/or commercial grades of rail, rod and seamless tubing as needed
Utilize statistical tools, subsequent to six sigma green belt training, to ensure robust laboratory test data is produced (MSA) and monitored per statistical process control techniques
Support special projects in each of the EVRAZ Pueblo Mills, as well as trials
Assist in the implementation of SPC in the met lab
B.S. or M.S. Metallurgical or Materials Engineering
Strong knowledge of metallurgy and metal forming with good problem solving skills

The Junior Metallurgist will work in the Material Testing and Development laboratory, where PPPL conduct and develop brazing and soldering processes as well as carry out mechanical load tests on materials and components. You will work on the development and implementation of testing processes as required in coordination with responsible engineers and obtain and post process data, write reports of the findings and archive data appropriately. You will apply knowledge in metallurgy and heat treating applications associated with vacuum furnace and alternative heating techniques. You will support the staff in process development and testing.
Developing and maintaining an expert knowledge of inductors used for induction heating and brazing/soldering, their properties and limitations.
Develop and maintain expert knowledge and the ability to configure and run vacuum ovens.
Working cooperatively with the rest of the Engineering Department staff to assess and define components and equipment required to achieve their requirements.
Cutting, mounting, polishing, and evaluating metallurgical samples to make sure that parts meet requirements.
Developing new processes and their supporting documentation
Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science, BSCE or BSME minimum, advanced degree preferred.

This metallurgist will work in the Metallurgy group. This individual will need to maintain a high level of quality for instructions and product review. Manage daily activities to stay on schedule for our product shipment. Develop good working relations with both internal and external customers.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES of Senior Metallurgist:
Interface with customers on matters pertaining to product requirements, quality and design
Interface with material suppliers in matters pertaining to material quality and technical design

REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science is required
Minimum 5 years forging industry experience with high temperature Titanium and Nickel aerospace alloys is preferred
Experience with Pratt and Whitney specifications and quality system is preferred
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Good project management skills
Well rounded knowledge of super alloys-melting, converting, forging, heat treating, properties and applications
Understanding of customer end use of parts

Knowledge of standards and specifications: ASTM, ASM, AISI, SAE and MIL.
Experience working with Quality specification requirements of major aerospace customers: Boeing, Airbus, Lockheed Martin, Safran, GE Aviation, Military, Northrop Grumman, Pratt & Whitney, and others. GE Grain Size Evaluation/Ratings E50TF133-S10 Certification is a plus.
