DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reads water meters on an assigned walking route and records readings using a portable microprocessor unit
Updates automated utility billing system database by entering meter locations, maintenance codes and special account notes.
Rereads meters where improper readings were submitted for billing.
Initiates service orders for meter, meter box, and lid repair or replacement.
Locates and examines meters and connections for leaks and incorrect registration of consumption.
Makes minor repairs or replacement of damaged or defective meters or boxes.
Responds to citizen's questions while in the field.
Prepares schedule of daily meter assignments, weekly inventories and monthly vehicle inspections.
Designs maps for use in meter reading and assists in re-sequencing existing routes and new planned communities or subdivisions.
Assists in the training of new meter readers.
Performs clerical duties in the office by checking route books, assisting in billing and preparing form letters.
Assists in other areas of utilities operations and maintenance as needed.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of meter reading practices and procedures.

The Meter reader will perform a wide variety of duties and tasks including:
Under the direction of the Field Services Customer Service lead, completes daily reading tasks in accordance with monthly reading schedules and established time parameters, when defined. Meters are read by following a route and locating each meter. Meter locations will vary from being on the side of a house or can include uneven terrain, meter pits or other variables.
Accurately completes paperwork and computer-work that accompanies daily reading tasks, such as importing and exporting meter read.
Responsible for providing training and development to Field Service Representatives and other meter readers.
Must be able to successfully respond to all emergency situations independently, and assist other Field Service Representatives with decisions regarding less routine on call situations.
Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
A valid Connecticut driver's license is required.
Must be able to communicate clearly in verbal and written form, and have legible handwriting.
Must demonstrate the proper regard for the use of time and equipment, and an awareness of the responsibility to safeguard the water supply and prevent pollution of area surface water.

Our client, a government organization in Fremont, CA is looking for a Meter Reader to join their team on a 3-6 months contract basis. Ideal candidates will have previous experience with meter reading and have excellent customer service skills. This position will read a variety of water meters in an assigned area and record water consumption; place door hangers to inform customers of service changes/usage; field checks and inspects meters, connection, plumbing fixtures and lines for leaks.

Safely and effectively operates a vehicle in connection with the duties of this class

Limited Duration Meter Reader
The Eugene Water & Electric Board is seeking three (3) Limited Duration Meter Readers to provide excellent service to our customers.
The successful candidates will:
Read residential and commercial electric water meters and enter readings into a handheld reading device with a mandatory accuracy rate of 99.96%. This position requires the ability to walk up to 15 miles per day in all weather conditions.
Observe and report defective and damaged meters, unauthorized connections, broken seals, inaccessible meters and hazardous conditions; ensure proper functioning of meters.
Complete daily review of meter reading validity, creating rereads and other possible meter related problem service orders.
Provide quality assurance for customer billings, including accuracy and timeliness of billing statements.
Resolve customer complaints regarding high bills as well as customer concerns about meter reader behaviors. Interact with other utility departments to ensure consistency in interactions with customers.
Limited Duration assignments are for a minimum of six months and can last up to three years. Limited Duration employees receive full EWEB benefits.
