Has responsibility for and participates in the operation and maintenance of complex photographic equipment used in a volume microphotography operation.
Essential Job Functions
* Operates a complex microfilm processing machine.
* Adjusts microfilm processing machine to prevent drag and to control speed of film flow through machine.
* Uses precision instruments such as a sensitometer, densitometer, and microscope to control quality and adjusts planetary cameras as needed to provide even density on all film to be processed.
* Controls chemical solutions and washes to insure obtaining film of archival quality.
* Locates and corrects source of film damage from scratching, spotting, streaking, and other film imperfections.
* Controls film and chemical supplies to insure fresh quality and proper storage.
* Keeps photographic equipment in working order, makes all but major technical repairs; and overhauls film processing equipment periodically.
* Improvises and changes equipment to meet demands of operations.
* Advises on proposed microfilm equipment purchases to insure technical adaptability and suitability of equipment.
* Maintains work and film processing control records.
* Supervise others engaged in operating film processing equipment as needed.
Two (2) years of fulltime experience* in the operation of photographic and photocopy
equipment, one (1) year of which must have included experience in microfilm equipment operation, including film processing.
3 – Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
Special Requirement Information:
* Full-time experience is evaluated based on a verifiable 40-hour per week.
Additional credit will be given to qualified applicants for full-time microfilm equipment operation, including film processing experience beyond the minimum requirement. Credit will be given based upon application information and supplemental questionnaire submitted at the time of filing.
This examination will consist of an evaluation of training and experience, weighted 100%. The evaluation of training and experience will be based upon application information and supplemental questionnaire.
Applicants must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher to be placed on the eligible register.
Final results will be sent by U.S. mail. Test scores cannot be given over the phone.
The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
No person may compete for this examination more than once in a twelve (12) month period.
The eligible register resulting from this examination will be used to fill vacancies in the Los Angeles County, Department of the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk in Norwalk, CA.
Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
