The Mill Process & Production Engineer-Calciner does not have any direct reports. This position will report directly to the Mill Superintendent.
What you will do:
Responsible for optimizing calciner production though process control and efficient operation of the associated equipment in the Mill Area
While making sure that neither safety nor the environment is compromised, the incumbent ensures that the products manufactured in the Mill area are within required chemical specifications for in-plant consumption and are produced at the lowest possible cost
Maintenance problems, which inhibit the efficient operation of the Mill Calciner equipment, are addressed either through modifications and the work order system, or by requesting capital funds for improvements
Employee training must be conducted to communicate changes in operating parameters as well as dealing with newly installed equipment
Responsible for optimizing the process control of the calciners, dryer, coal system, and associated operating equipment in the Mill Area

Ensuring production tonnage meets or exceeds plan
Maintaining the required quality specifications of both the dried rock and calcined rock
Keeping costs low by improving the reliability of the operating equipment and optimizing the process
Ensuring that all testing and monitoring for environmental compliance are completed according to schedule
Monitoring and documenting all calcining and drying emissions data and as required in accordance with Title V and any other involved regulatory agency
Ensuring that the appropriate actions are taken to prevent or address environmental non-compliance
Requesting and applying capital funds to improve the calcining and drying operations
Maintaining fuel consumption at efficient levels
Participating in crew meetings on a monthly basis to improve safety and environmental awareness
Troubleshooting operational delays reduce bottlenecks, and identify mechanical problems
Responsible for proper operation of all six WESPs
Coordinating daily production and process trials with other departments
Tracking performance and initiate process modifications, as necessary
Back-up some of the functions of the concentrate process engineer
Conduct presentations and meetings with the plant and outside agendas
What you will bring:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required
A degree in Mining, Metallurgical Engineering or Mineral Processing is preferred, other engineering disciplines may be acceptable
Minimum of 5+ years of industrial experience in the mining industry is required
A strong background within product conveying, mineral processing, chemical engineering, chemistry, materials handling, and familiarity with regulatory requirements with respect to emission monitoring and control is highly beneficial
Prior practical experience within the cement, lime, mining or mineral processing industries, is desirable
Expertise with personal computers and various software applications is essential in order to keep up with key operating guidelines for product quality, budget calculations, environmental calculations, and miscellaneous statistical manipulations
Supervisory skills are required because the incumbent fills in for the Superintendent and General Supervisor, has weekend duty on a regular basis, and must direct Calcining & Drying personnel to make changes in operating procedures
Project engineering development and management skills will be necessary
Effective speaking is very helpful because there are numerous occasions when crew meetings need to be conducted
Six sigma training is desired
Incumbent must pass a pre-employment exam and drug screening

Operator Helper - Equipment Operator
Under supervision, perform semi-skilled manual work in connection with an entry level position in power plant operation. Assist equipment operators while learning the following job duties:
Isolate, clean, open, replace, inspect, close and return to service plant equipment. Isolate equipment and place/remove clearance tags in the plant and switchyard. Operate, regulate, adjust, clean and perform minor maintenance on plant auxiliary systems.
Monitor and inspect all plant equipment for normal operation. Identify and report abnormal conditions to the proper authority and write work orders. Operate, clean, service and lubricate portable power driven tools and equipment.
Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Utilize portable meters, analyzers and equipment to conduct tests and monitoring. Lubricate and check lubrication equipment; adjust packing glands as necessary and perform necessary operative maintenance, using appropriate hand tools.
Operate oil filtering equipment. Erect and remove simple scaffolding and rigging. Perform routine cleaning of plant areas and equipment, including outside areas, as assigned.
Load, unload, move and handle materials, supplies and equipment; open boxes, barrels, bags and other materials using material handling equipment.
Monitor water chemistry as required. Maintain water pH and follow EPA guidelines as applicable.
Assist in preparing boilers and auxiliaries for operation and removal from service. If applicable, monitor coal feed to mills and burners and observe conditions of fires and furnaces. Hand lance slag in boilers, hand- operating soot blowers, unplugging ash lines, disposing of clinkers and other similar work.
Use flow diagrams to identify system piping and equipment and revise these prints as required. Make required equipment checks and assist in performing tests and preparing related reports, graphs and curves. Perform duties in accordance with Company's safety rules, operating regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions and practices.
Train for and carry out assignments in firefighting, first aid and other emergency response programs as required. Perform other job duties as assigned.
