Silgan Containers, the largest manufacturer of metal food cans in the United States, is recruiting for a Lacquer Tender to work at our Can Manufacturing Plant in Antioch, CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting all materials including plate, coatings and solvents as well as for relieving Coater Operators for breaks. Essential Job Functions:
Prepares lacquer and other related material for use in coating tinplate, making sure it is mixed to current standards.

Assist Coater Line Operator with servicing, overhaul, set-up, operating, maintaining and adjusting of the coater line.

Load rolls of paper onto automatic splicing unit of web offset printing press. Inspect rolls of paper for blemishes or tears and cuts away damaged area with knife. Roll paper into loading position on automatic splicer, insert shaft of automatic splicer through roll core, secure holding chucks of automatic splicer to shaft ends, and thread paper through press components to prepare press for printing. Apply adhesive strip to backup roll and insert backup roll onto automatic splicing unit of press to prepare paper for automatic splicing. Remove roll of leftover paper from press after automatic splicing. May operate mechanical truck to transport rolls of paper to press area. May assist with some of the make-ready tasks associated with the type of press operated such as hanging plates, examining plates, prepping and installing blankets, adjusting tension etc. May clean press and clean and install press components to maintain press in working order. May prepare and Prepares and loads flat stock into a sheet fed press.

Essential Functions &
Continuously perform all required tasks in a safe manner, adhering to all established safety rules and procedures i.e. PPE, clothing, EHS, moving equipment, cut resistant gloves, etc.
Check bags for quality defects off the machine, and do all quality checks and paper work as per Quality Policy.
Safely and efficiently
Strip rolls down, removing liner and /or bands and removing minimal layers of damaged paper.
Change roll, make splice by hand, maneuver roll into position, adhere roll to web on machine, and adjust paper rolls.
Monitor bag machinery, starting, stopping, jogging, and adjusting as needed in a timely manner.
Threading paper through machine smoothly and thread machine as needed.
Clean and repair machine as needed using proper tools and equipment.
Maintain ink levels, clean ink pans and wash rollers.
Package bags as specified.
Submit accurate production reports daily and timely.
Meet/achieve safety, quality, production waste and housekeeping goals set forth by management.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.

2+ years of machine operator and setup experience in a manufacturing environment
Reading, writing and basic math skills are needed for this job.
Must be mechanically inclined and be able to make minor adjustments to machines. Must be able to correctly read a ruler.

Laboratory and field testing of asphalt materials and test data analysis; providing test data/analysis to the materials production branch, paving contractor, customer, and recommend and implement improvements to the production process. Support the materials branches and paving contractors in performing QC/QA projects including pavement compaction testing and aiding the paving crew in achieving pavement density/compaction.

Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all federal, state, local and company safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
Push or pull levers to turn mixer drum and dump contents
Move hand and foot controls to move truck forward and backward to aid in the placement of concrete
Inspect truck equipment and supplies in accordance with CDL pre-trip guidelines
Oil and lubricate equipment
Would be willing to train and pay for the CDL test for the right candidate
Vision must be acceptable for day and night driving
- CDL B
- Ability to do basic math
Physical strength must be enough to climb in and out of a truck through out the workday
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
