Plan sequence of operations for mold constructions.
Study blueprints of the mold and plastic piece part and verify specifications.
Perform machine set-ups, adjust speeds, feeds and depth of cut, to machined parts
to specifications set forth in blueprints, drawings, engineering orders, etc.
Check machined parts for conformance to prescribed tolerances.
Fit all mold components and verify proper tool function.
Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare molds for production
This consists at times of performing part number change-overs from assembly drawings, cleaning, assembly, repair, and trouble shooting and performing visual inspection on molded product to assure good mold maintenance was performed.
Inspect and prepare tooling to be installed into mold which means being proficient in all shop equipment (excluding wire EDM) and heat treating techniques.
Disassemble mold tooling for cleaning and repair. Cleaning includes disassembly of mold, cleaning each piece of tooling and inspecting for wear and damage. Details are reworked or replaced as needed
Change over molds which include changing out details to change product part configuration
Fits and assembles component parts into mold cavities and verifies dimensions, alignment and clearance
Analyzes and corrects complex mold malfunctions to assure mold will produce acceptable parts
May perform welding to make repairs to mold tooling, mold frames, and other mold parts requiring a fine blend of surface metal that would not distort the finished product
Hand fitting of mold tooling
Education / Experience:
Completion of Accredited Apprenticeship program is strongly preferred
Minimum of 4 years' experience in mold making or mold maintenance preferred
Demonstrated ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints
Ability to operate milling machines, surface grinders and related shop equipment
Ability to operate precision measurement devices
Knowledge of tool design and understanding of fit and function of mold components
Understanding of Plastics and mold tooling
Good communication and ability to multi task and prioritize work in order to successfully accomplish job duties is strongly needed
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 54 lbs
Must be able to push a minimum of 77 lbs
Must be able to pull a minimum of 66 lbs
Frequently extending hands and arms between knees and shoulder level; will handle and grasp frequently with hands
Frequent standing, walking, and balancing throughout the day is required in this job.

Mold Maker (Injection Molding)
POSITION SUMMARY:
To maintain plant equipment and tooling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in production of machined details from prints.
Lays-out and sets-up dies.
Produces parts, details and drawings from samples.
Tears down and rebuilds existing machinery.
Assists engineering and production departments with machine set-ups, new processes, etc.
Fabrication of tooling is produced on time and efficiently while maintaining high quality standards
Coordinates jobs with CNC and EDM departments
Must display a complete understanding/proficiency of all aspects of the mold making process
Proficient in manual milling, grinding, and turning
Ensure all deliveries are met
Understanding of CAD to build a mold from a database as PTA Plastics is a paperless company
Experience in NC programing and EDM a plus

Builds plastic injection molds from blueprints, technical drawings and CAD models

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principal duties and responsibilities of the Tool Room Personnel consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Reads and interprets blueprints or works from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or from the actual part to be copied or fitted.
Plans the setup and operation of various machine shop tools, considering types of material, tolerances, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
Heat treats and welds parts as required.
Uses precision measuring and gauging tools, performing required inspections before, during, and after machining.
CNC machining
Uses hand tools of the trade for modifications as required.
Fits and assembles mold parts, tools, and dies. Sets up, runs off, and tests molds to produce a product meeting specifications, tracing die difficulties to their source and making any necessary modifications.
May assist machinists and millwrights in injection molding press overhaul.
May assist product designers by providing information about potential manufacturing difficulties with new product designs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to operate all machine shop equipment such as a lathe, saw, mill, drill press etc.
Ability to read and understand all safety operating procedures and to use all safety features of the equipment.
Ability to weld, including tool steels.
Knowledge in tool steel selection and heat treatment.
Some knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, machine and motor control.
Good problem-solving skills and ability to work with minimum supervision.
Ability to communicate with designers concerning technical ramifications of designs.
